Abstract

Dug wells are the most widely used clean water facilities in the community, but they often have high turbidity levels. So that processing must be done using a coagulant material. Aloe vera is a natural ingredient that contains complex carbohydrates, sugars, and mucilages which can bind particles in water. This study aims to determine the effect of variations in Aloe vera doses on reducing water turbidity. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with three dose variations (0.1 ml, 0.2 ml, and 0.3 ml) and six repetitions. A total of 500 ml of raw water from resident wells was used for each treatment. The results showed that at a dose of 0.1 ml, the turbidity decreased by 3.7%, from 41.1 NTU to 39.6 NTU (SD = 0.54). The dose was 0.2 ml, decreased by 6.8% (38.3 NTU; SD = 1.54), and the dose was 0.3 ml decreased by 13.9% (35.4 NTU; SD = 1.02). Statistically, it showed a significant difference in turbidity in each treatment group (p-value <0.05). Research has shown that Aloe vera can be used as a natural coagulant, but further research is needed to determine the correct dosage.

Abstract

Coloring substances in food are generally classified into two categories, namely natural dyes and synthetic dyes. Rhodamine B is a synthetic dye which is widely used in the textile industry. The use of Rhodamine B in food can cause irritation to digestion, inhalation, and eyes. This research was conducted to detect rhodamine B content in tomato sauce by adding detergent. The design of this study was a qualitative descriptive study conducted on tomato sauce on the market. The test results for the presence of rhodamine B in tomato sauce with the addition of detergent solution showed that from 6 samples examined, there were 4 samples that had a color change from bright red to pale red. The color change indicates that there is Rhodamine B in tomato sauce. Positive tomato sauce contains the harmful dye rhodamine B using a detergent solution as a medium to determine the content of synthetic dyes qualitatively.

Abstract

Background: Work accidents caused by human actions that do not meet safety standards are referred to as unsafe human actions, such as not wearing personal protective equipment (PPE), working outside of procedures, working near moving or rotating machinery, fatigue, boredom, and so on. Meanwhile, accidents caused by unsafe environmental conditions are referred to as unsafe conditions, such as machines without safety features and the continued use of equipment that is no longer in good condition. The purpose of this research is to determine the relationship between knowledge and compliance with the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and workplace accidents at PT. XY. This research method employs an observational approach with a cross-sectional design. The population in this study, taken from the Track Department of the Plant, consists of 30 workers, and the sample is the total population of 30 workers. The instruments used in this data collection are questionnaires and observations for the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as well as documentation. The research results showed that the average knowledge was poor for 16 individuals, and the average compliance was lacking for 17 individuals. Based on the bivariate analysis using Chi-Square, it was found that there is a relationship between knowledge and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) with a P value of 0.021, and there is a relationship between compliance in using PPE and workplace accidents with a P value of 0.042. The conclusion of this study is that there is a significant relationship between knowledge and compliance in using PPE concerning workplace accidents.

Abstract

Data from the World Health Organization (WHO) shows that the incidence of hypertension in the world will increase every year and reach 29.2% in 2023. Dash diet compliance has factors that influence patient compliance, namely compliance in implementing the diet program related to understanding of instructions and knowledge. The DASH diet is a diet that recommends consuming low fat, low salt and increasing potassium intake to help lower blood pressure. To determine the relationship between compliance with the Dash diet and sodium, fat and potassium intake in patients with hypertension. This method uses a Semi Quantitative Form-FFQ questionnaire with an interview method. The number of subjects in this study were 60 hypertensive patients with heart complications. Results: There is a relationship between diet compliance and fat and sodium intake (p value < 0.05). There is no relationship between diet compliance and potassium intake (p value ≥ 0.05).

Abstract

The problem of organic waste is a big challenge for the environment, especially in urban areas. One effective solution is composting with the Berkeley method, with a rapid decomposition process within 18–21 days. This method uses high temperatures and regular turning of the compost. Berkeley composting not only helps reduce waste but also supports sustainable agriculture by providing a natural source of nutrients for the soil. This study aims to analyze the effect of three different types of MoL on compost quality, with parameters of temperature, pH, potassium, nitrogen, and phosphorus. Research method: This research is an experimental research through the utilization of dormitory kitchen waste with the Berkeley method and using MoL made from natural materials, namely fruit peels, bamboo shoots, and cassava tapai. Data analysis and processing using descriptive. The results showed that there was an effect of three types of MoL on the quality of compost. Based on observations of the physical quality of compost, the temperature and pH parameters showed that the average temperature was 29 0C and the average pH was 3.5, and the chemical examination of compost found that the compost produced for potassium parameters was highest produced by bamboo shoot mole, namely 0.044%, while the highest nitrogen parameter was tape mole, namely 1.41%, the highest phosphorus content was produced by fruit leather mole, namely 0.73 and the highest water content was fruit leather mole, namely 74.65. Conclusion: there is an effect of three types of MoL on the quality of compost with the Berkeley method.

Abstract

Purpose: This activity aims to raise awareness among students, teachers, and the school community about waste management, develop student creativity through crafts made from recycled materials, and encourage the habit of sorting waste and reusing inorganic waste. Methodology/approach: The activity was conducted through lectures, demonstrations of making crafts from inorganic waste, and a Q&A session with door prizes. Participants were taught how to make flowers from single-use plastic cups. The activity was attended by 20 students from grades 3 and 6 of SD Muhammadiyah 7 Palembang. Results/findings: Participants understood the steps in making crafts from plastic cups. This program should be continued to help maintain the cleanliness of the school environment. Conclusion: This program contributed to the school's efforts in maintaining cleanliness from plastic waste. Limitation: This activity only involved 20 students, so its impact has not yet been widely felt. Moreover, the focus is still on education and crafting, without a long-term strategy for program sustainability. However, this program has effectively raised awareness of waste management and recycling creativity at SD Muhammadiyah 7 Palembang.

Abstract

Introduction: Apart from being a health service facility, hospitals are also a medium for disease transmission for patients, employees, visitors and the community around the hospital. Many activities in hospitals have the potential to increase environmental pollution because every activity produces waste. The aim of this research is to obtain an overview of liquid waste management in preventing environmental pollution in hospitals. Material and Methods: This research uses the literature study method (literature review). The population is 4 journals and journals published are limited to the last 5 (five) years. Analysis used with PICO. Results: The results of this research are that liquid waste produced by hospitals includes waste water originating from the canteen and nutrition kitchen, waste water originating from inpatient rooms, waste water originating from central operating/surgery rooms, waste water originating from isolation rooms, waste water originating from outpatient rooms/polyclinics, waste water originating from pharmacy rooms, waste water originating from obstetrics rooms, and waste water originating from laboratories. All waste water is channeled to the IPAL, except for waste water that comes from nutritional kitchens, laundry and laboratories, because it must betreatment especially before heading to IPA. Conclusion: concluded that liquid waste processing in hospitals still does not meet hospital liquid waste quality standards, so supervision and monitoring by the government needs to be improved.
