Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to formulate and validate an integrated event tourism package planning model for the SAMOTA National Strategic Tourism Area (KSPN) in Sumbawa, Indonesia. It addresses the critical gap in existing destination management, where flagship events and natural attractions are often marketed in silos, limiting their economic impact and sustainability. Design/methodology/approach: The study adopts a Research and Development (R&D) approach utilizing the 4-D Model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate). Data were collected through in-depth interviews with penta-helix stakeholders, including government officials, local communities, and cross-regional travel agencies (Lombok, Bali, and Makassar). The resulting model underwent expert validation to ensure feasibility and market relevance. Findings: The research produced a "Collaborative Event Tourism Planning Model" that effectively integrates the SAMOTA International Festival (SIF) with iconic destinations (Moyo Island, Saleh Bay, and Tambora). The findings demonstrate that cross-regional stakeholder collaboration—specifically involving travel agents in the co-creation process—is the primary driver for building market confidence and expanding distribution channels. The model yielded segmented tourism packages (2D1N, 3D2N, and Full Day) that successfully extended tourists' length of stay. Originality/value: This study contributes to the event tourism literature by providing a validated, visual planning framework that links event scheduling with destination product packaging. It offers a practical roadmap for Destination Management Organizations (DMOs) to transform sporadic events into sustainable tourism products through structured multi-stakeholder synergy.

Abstract

The growth of nature-based tourism in Indonesia has not been accompanied by a corresponding improvement in visitor environmental behaviour, creating a persistent gap between tourism expansion and ecological sustainability. This study examines the relationships among Experiencescape, Place Attachment, Environmental Concern, and Environmentally Responsible Behaviour (ERB) among tourists visiting nature-based destinations in Nusa Tenggara Barat (NTB), Indonesia. Using a quantitative verificative design, data were collected from 266 respondents through purposive sampling and analysed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) with 5,000 bootstrapping resamples. The results confirm that Experiencescape significantly influences Place Attachment, and that Place Attachment positively drives ERB. However, Experiencescape did not directly influence ERB, indicating that behavioural change operates through emotional mediation rather than direct experiential stimuli. Environmental Concern significantly moderated the Experiencescape–Place Attachment relationship in a negative direction, suggesting that environmentally conscious visitors apply more critical evaluative standards to the experiential environment. Environmental Concern did not significantly moderate either the Experiencescape–ERB or Place Attachment–ERB relationships. These findings highlight that fostering deep emotional bonds between tourists and natural destinations is more effective than relying on experiential quality alone to promote responsible environmental behaviour. Destination managers and policymakers in NTB are encouraged to prioritise ecologically authentic and interpretive experiencescape designs that strengthen place attachment as an indirect pathway to sustainable visitor conduct.

Abstract

This community service program aims to strengthen community capacity in Prabu Tourism Village through the EDUKARSA (Education and Creation for the Community) program, which integrates four key capacity-building components: culinary presentation, homestay room preparation, tour package development, and photography and videography for digital content creation. The program was implemented using a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach involving 40 participants from June to October 2025 through stages of planning, implementation, evaluation, and sustainability. Program effectiveness was evaluated using a structured questionnaire with a five-point Likert scale, analyzed descriptively using statistical procedures commonly applied in SPSS. The results show that the overall mean score of participants’ competency improvement reached 4.42 (SD = 0.51), indicating a high level of perceived effectiveness. Reliability testing demonstrated strong internal consistency, with a Cronbach’s Alpha value of 0.91, confirming that the evaluation instrument was highly reliable. Improvements were most notable in culinary presentation (mean = 4.55), homestay management (mean = 4.48), tour package design (mean = 4.36), and digital content production (mean = 4.29). Despite these positive outcomes, several challenges remain, particularly in standardizing homestay facilities, determining competitive tour package pricing, and strengthening community-based documentation teams. Overall, the EDUKARSA program significantly contributed to enhancing human resource capacity and reinforcing Prabu Village as a sustainable, community-based tourism destination supported by quality services and effective digital promotion.
