Abstract

Simping clam’s a type of waste that is rarely used. The high levels of calcium carbonate in simping shells enable them to be used as a catalyst in the carburizing process. This research aimed to determine the effect of simping clam shell powder as a catalyst in the carburizing process on the hardness and impact strength values of ST 42 steel. This research used an experimental method by varying the percentage of simping clam shell powder: 0%, 10%, 20%, 30%, and coconut shell activated charcoal powder: 100%, 90%, 80%, and 70%, against ST 42 steel with variations in carburizing time: 3 hours, 6 hours, and 9 hours using a temperature of 900°C. The tests carried out were rockwell hardness tests and charpy impact tests according to ASTM E23 standards. From the test results, it was obtained that good hardness and impact strength values were obtained in 3 hours, the percentage was 30% with an average hardness value of 34.02 HRC and an impact value of 0.279 joules/mm2, in 6 hours the percentage was 30% with an average hardness value of 38. 92 HRC and an impact value of 0.229 joules/mm2, a time of 9 hours with a percentage of 30% an average hardness value of 43.68 HRC and an impact value of 0.179 joules/mm2. So by increasing the carburizing time, the hardness increases. The longer the carburizing time, the higher the percentage of simping clam shell powder used. This means that simping clam shell powder  functions as a catalyst.

Abstract

This study examines the effect of nozzle temperature and layer height on the dimensional accuracy of threaded products using Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) technology with PETG filament material. Experiments were conducted using Taguchi method with L9 factorial design and three repetitions. The parameters tested included nozzle temperature (235°C, 240°C, 250°C) and layer height (0.10 mm, 0.15 mm, 0.20 mm) variations, with a constant print speed of 40 mm/s. The test specimen was a M16×2 6g thread with a height of 20 mm. The results show that layer height has a more significant effect than nozzle temperature on dimensional accuracy. Optimal diameter dimensional accuracy was achieved at a combination of nozzle temperature 240°C and layer height 0.15 mm with an average diameter of 15.82 mm, while optimal height dimensional accuracy was obtained at a combination of nozzle temperature 240°C and layer height 0.10 mm with an average height of 20.01 mm. This research contributes to the optimization of 3D printing process parameters for threaded products.

Abstract

Animal feed is an important factor that must be considered to increase the productivity of providing green fodder both in quality and quantity, where in the provision of cattle feed is still done manually using hands with the help of machetes and sickles to chop the feed, especially for cattle breeders of the Puding Jaya II Farmer Group in Puding Village, Merawang District, Bangka Regency. The purpose of this study is to assist in the processing of livestock feed conventionally or manually by designing a chopping machine so that it can make its own cemboran and chopped feed using available materials such as special grass leaves for cattle feed or oil palm leaves so that they are easy for cattle to chew. The method used starts from designing a chopping machine that can be used as a chopping tool for raw materials for livestock feed in the form of odot plants, Indigofera, Chinese petai, jackfruit leaves, elephant grass, palm fronds and leaves which are favorite green fodder for cattle so that it is expected to lighten the burden and make it easier for cattle breeders to get livestock feed that is ready to be eaten by cattle. in an effort to increase livestock feed production can increase as expected to reach 200-300 percent.

Abstract

Spinach chips are an innovative and healthy snack made primarily from spinach leaves mixed with flour and fried, where the oil-draining process plays a crucial role in determining the final product's quality. Home industries often rely on traditional methods, such as air-drying, although oil-draining machines have been introduced to Jabal Dinar SMEs. However, these machines require improvement due to excessively high and unstable rotation speeds. This study aims to identify the causes of instability and analyze the effects of varying rotation speeds (300, 400, 500 rpm) and draining durations (40, 60, 80 seconds) on product quality. The results indicate that the optimal speed is 400 rpm with a draining duration of 80 seconds, achieving a final weight of 77% while maintaining the texture and crispness of the spinach chips without breaking. In contrast, a speed of 500 rpm removes more oil, but the excessive centrifugal force damages the product due to the chips' thin and fragile nature.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study aims to optimize the heat treatment process of S55C medium-carbon steel by examining the combined effects of austenitizing temperature, quenching media, and tempering temperature on impact toughness. Methodology: An experimental approach was employed using quenching and tempering treatments. Quenching was performed at three austenitizing temperatures (950°C, 1000°C, and 1050°C) with three different cooling media—salt water, oil, and seawater—followed by tempering at 100°C, 200°C, 300°C, and 400°C. All heating processes were conducted in an electric furnace. Parameter optimization was carried out using the Taguchi method with an L9 orthogonal array. Mechanical performance was evaluated through Charpy impact testing, and confirmation experiments were conducted to validate the optimal parameter combination. Main Findings: The Taguchi analysis identified the optimal quenching condition at an austenitizing temperature of 1050°C with salt water as the cooling medium, yielding the highest impact toughness. Confirmation tests supported the reliability of this result. Additionally, the tempering process showed that increasing the tempering temperature decreased hardness while significantly improving toughness, indicating effective stress relief and improved ductility in the steel microstructure. Novelty/Originality of this study: The novelty of this study lies in the integrated optimization of quenching temperature and diverse cooling media, including seawater, using the Taguchi method, with a specific focus on toughness rather than hardness alone. This research provides new insights into tailoring heat treatment parameters for S55C steel to achieve superior impact resistance, offering practical guidance for more efficient and application-oriented heat treatment strategies in manufacturing industries.

Abstract

Di era teknologi yang mulai berkembang, penggunaan serat alam sebagai komposit mulai banyak digunakan. Misalnya serat sabut kelapa sebagai material komposit. Material komposit memiliki sifat mekanik yang kuat, tahan korosi, ringan, dan dapat digunakan sebagai material pengganti logam. Karena banyaknya keunggulan serat sabut kelapa dipilih digunakan untuk memperbaiki sifat-sifat suatu bahan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui nilai kekutan tarik dan lentur komposit berpenguat serat sabut kelapa dengan fraksi volume 6% - 15 mm, 8% - 20 mm, 10% - 25 mm, dengan diameter serat 0,5 - 1 mm dan perlakuan alkali (NaOH) selama 2 jam dengan kadar 5%. Pengujian tarik dilakukan dengan menggunakan standar ASTM D638 sedangkan pengujian lentur menggunakan ASTM D790. Pengujian dilakukan dengan metode hand lay-up. Hasil pengujian tarik tertinggi terdapat pada fraksi volume 6% dengan panjang serat 15 mm yaitu sebesar 19,4 Mpa. Nilai rata-rata modulus elastisitas tertinggi dihasilkan dari variasi fraksi volume 6% dengan panjang serat 15 mm yaitu sebesar 3766 Mpa. Nilai Kekuatan lentur tertinggi terdapat pada fraksi volume 6% dengan panjang serat 15 mm yaitu sebesar 70,70 Mpa. Hal ini dikarenakan semakin pendek panjang serat maka lebih mudah untuk ditata pada saat proses pembuatanya, ketika dicampur dengan resin, maka seluruh serat dapat menempel dengan resin secara sempurna, sehingga komposit tidak gampang patah jika diberikan beban pada saat proses pengujian. Berdasarkan standarisasi pengujian tarik, untuk nilai hasil uji tarik dari penelitian ini tidak memenuhi standar. Untuk nilai modulus elastisitas dari penelitian ini sudah memenuhi standar.

Abstract

Resam (Dicranopteris linearis syn. Gleichenia linearis) can be used as an alternative raw material. This material is easy to obtain because it can be used in almost all corners of Indonesia, especially the Bangka Belitung area, is easy to process, and has a size of stem content and stem size. Has good mechanical properties, corrosion resistance, easy to obtain from nature and environmentally friendly raw materials. So it can be developed as a composite material. This study aims to determine the effect of variations in layers (1-3) of woven fibers on the tensile strength and impact of resin-reinforced composites. In this study, using variations in the number of different layers, namely 1 layer, 2 layer, and 3 layer. The material used is resam woven fiber resin. Tensile test specimens were made with reference to the ASTM D-638 standard and impact testing according to ISO-179. The research results show,. The highest tensile strength value is found in the 1-layer layer, which is 26.4 MPa and the highest impact strength is owned by the 3-layer composite, which is 0.09014 J/mm2. Based on the results of the comparison test, the number of fiber layers greatly affects the tensile and impact strength.

Abstract

The best quality of a component is a smooth surface. To achieve an optimum response, the variable setting of the process must be correct to be effective. SKD 11 steel includes the kind of tool steel that is frequently applied in the manufacturing industry as cutting tools, shear blades, stamping tools, punching, dies, and so on. Therefore, it is expected to have good surface roughness. This research will use a combination of variables to process spindle, feed rate, and cooling. The method used was experimental methods with tuning parameters. Based on research shows the most optimum gross response value was the 1600 RPM index, the rate of 120 mm per minute, and the cooling type of dramas. Variables that contribute significantly to the total variance of rudeness are the feed rate of 67.43 %.
