Abstract

This paper examines the efficiency of steel material use in commercial building roof trusses. The analysis was conducted by comparing several types of steel profiles using manual calculations and structural software, based on Indonesian National Standards (SNI) standards. The goal was to identify the most material-efficient configuration without compromising strength and stability. The results indicate that selecting the right profile can save up to 25% on material, resulting in a more economical and efficient design.

Abstract

This study compares the cost estimation time for structural work between conventional methods and 5D BIM for the Precision 5 National Police Building Project. Using a quantitative approach and case study, data was obtained from project documentation and simulations. The results show that 5D BIM significantly accelerated the estimation process without compromising accuracy.

Abstract

The use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology in construction projects has had a significant impact on the work processes of civil engineers. However, this advancement also raises new ethical challenges. This paper examines the application of professional ethics in the use of BIM from the perspective of civil engineers. Through a qualitative approach and literature review, it was found that while BIM improves efficiency and collaboration, integrity and professional responsibility are still required to prevent data misuse or violations of ethical principles. Ethics are key to maintaining project quality and accountability in the digital age.

Abstract

The Design and Build method is a modern approach to construction project implementation that integrates the planning and implementation processes within a single work contract. In this system, an engineer plays a crucial role, serving as a technical designer, quality controller, and strategic decision-maker. This study aims to identify and analyze the primary role of an engineer in a Design and Build project, as well as to understand the challenges and competencies required to carry out these responsibilities. The research method used was descriptive qualitative, using literature review, observation, and interviews with professional engineers in the field. The results indicate that engineers act as a liaison between project owners, planners, and implementers, and have a significant responsibility for ensuring structural safety, cost efficiency, and project sustainability. Furthermore, integrity and professional ethics are key factors in technical decision-making. With the right competencies and early involve

Abstract

The construction of access roads to Kenyamukan Port in Sangatta, East Kutai, faced a major challenge due to soft saturated soils with low bearing capacity and high settlement potential. To address this issue, a soil improvement system was implemented using a combination of Prefabricated Vertical Drain (PVD) and vacuum preloading methods. PVD functions to accelerate pore water discharge both vertically and horizontally, while vacuum preloading applies negative pressure to enhance consolidation without the need for heavy surcharge loads. This internship was conducted over ±2 months, focusing on the installation stages of PVD, perforated horizontal drains (PHD), geomembranes, and vacuum systems. Based on field observations and CPTu test data, this combined method significantly accelerated soil consolidation, increased effective stress, and reduced the consolidation period from over a year to approximately 90–120 days. The method is considered effective, efficient, and suitable for infrastructure projects on soft ground, especially in coastal areas. This practical experience also provided the student with hands-on knowledge of construction execution, technical skills, and real-world problem-solving in geotechnical engineering.
