Abstract

This study explain how the use of luck priming in print advertising which occurred in Indonesia recently has an effect on how consumers with believe insuperstition develops their product evaluation, especially when they are experiencing product failure. We expand previous study on the relationship of consumers believe in superstition and product failure by further examining their repurchase intention of the product using 2x2 factorial experimental design. The findings confirmed that luck priming and belief in superstition have significant influence on consumers satisfaction, which shown as greater consumers dissatisfaction on product with luck priming for those with weak belief in superstition. However, our hypotheses in the influence of luck priming and belief in superstition on repurchase intention was also statistically supported. This evidence reinforce previous studies on belief in superstition as a chronic belief which stays in mind of a consumer.

Abstract

Brand extension is a topic that has been widely discussed by academics and practitioners in various studies. Unfortunately, there are only a few that address the role of product involvement, advertising appeals, and value dimensions in the extension acceptance as their main issue. Therefore, this study aims to mixed three controlling factors which are product involvement, advertising appeals, and brand value dimensions in determining how consumers respond to the parent brand and extended brand. This study was designed to test the possible interaction in a 2x2x2 full-factorial between advertising appeals (informational vs. emotional), brand extension perceived fit (high vs. low), and value dimension (symbolic vs. functional) for high involvement products. This study confirmed that there were significant differences in the main effects for both consumers' evaluation toward brand extension and the parent brand in the case of a symbolic brand and the high fit of extensions. Emotional appeals play important role in enhancing this degree because of the high level of its brand associations. As symbolic brand often referred as premium brand, the more positive the level of quality perception, the higher level of consumers' evaluation toward brand and brand loyalty will be. Thus, the more loyal consumer to the parent brand, the more positive evaluations of the extension will be.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced restaurants to adopt contactless self-service technology to address customers' level of vulnerability to COVID-19. This study examines important behavioral and user acceptance of self-service technology (SST) variables based on the Unified Theory of Use and Acceptance of Technology (UTAUT) model and enhanced to incorporate perceived risk and moderating effects of perceived vulnerability to COVID-19. The casual dining restaurants were chosen as the context of the study as this industry usually relies more on personal services than on SST, so the impact of environmental change can be seen more clearly. A questionnaire survey was created to gather empirical data about the usage of self-service technology through online data collection, and a quantitative method was adopted for data analysis. A structural analysis was conducted with the Partial Least Squares method to test the hypothetical relationship between the constructs proposed in the conceptual model. The contribution of this study is to analyze the use of technology in casual restaurant service settings in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic to provide an understanding of SST usage and practical implications for service development in the casual restaurants industry.

Abstract

Regardless of the growing usage of social ads in Indonesia, the effectiveness of these social ads has not really been assessed. One theme of the social ads that is related to the poverty problem in this country is the micro and small entrepreneur social ads, namely a number of related social ads issued by the government that persuades its audience to release themselves from poverty by becoming micro and small entrepreneurs that is supported by low cost loans from the government. As becoming a micro or small entrepreneur has both an individual and a social risk perception, a 2x2x2 experiment was conducted using self-monitoring to represent the individual risk perception, social expectation to represent the social risk perception and message framing; to see how these 3 factors affect the target audience attitude toward the message of becoming a micro and small entrepreneur. The result of the study shows that self-monitoring, the individual risk perception, has the strongest influence over the audience’s attitude, in which the higher the self-monitoring characteristic of the audience the more positive the attitude formed toward the message. Social expectation and message framing does not show any direct significant influence, however the interaction of the 2 factors show significant influence toward the attitude the message.

Abstract

This research demonstrates that brand performance can be enhanced not only through brand personality congruence with customer personality, but also through brand personality fit, namely the moderating fit of customer value proposition to brand personality. Through a study covering 125 brands, the result demonstrates that the moderating fit between brand personality and the different level of customer value proposition positively affects brand performance. Price-quality relationship for attribute-based customer value, self-construal for consequences-based customer value and self-regulatory focus as goal-based customer value are used to test this moderating fit relationship. Other findings show that this moderating fit is strongest toward the brand cognitive performance. Finally, the result of this study suggests marketers to incorporate the brand personality design into their positioning statement so that the overall customer value proposition can be developed in a more integrated manner, leading to higher brand performance

Abstract

Manuscript type: Research paper Research Aims: This study aims to fill the research gap from previous research regarding personal norms in explaining pro-environmental behavior, which does not involve awareness of consequences and ascription of responsibility as antecedents to activate personal norms. Therefore, this study tries to examine personal norms based on norm activation theory in explaining behavior. Design/methodology/approach: The final sample size is 300 respondents selected through purposive sampling technique. Primary data is collected through a closed-end questionnaire. Data analysis consists of two stages, namely the confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation model. Research Findings: Awareness of consequences and ascription of responsibility significantly form a personal norm as a core factor of the norm activation theory. Consumers feel that they have a moral obligation concerning the environment. Active personal norm, successfully forming both intention and actual behavior in the context of sorting out waste. In the downstream stage of consumer behavior, it will lead to becoming pro-environmental consumer behavior based on altruistic values. Theoretical Contribution/Originality: Personal norm is proven to be activated by awareness of consequences and ascription of responsibility. Active personal norm will lead to affect behavior, with or without being preceded by intention. Practitioner/Policy Implication: Social marketers can encourage consumers to behave proenvironmentally by activating the personal norm from their target audience first. Research limitation/Implications: This study was conducted in a cross-sectional period. Therefore, future studies will be more robust if the actual behavior is measured in a longitudinal period.
