Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of combining Fruit-Based Local Microorganisms fertilizer with inorganic fertilizer on pakcoy yield, and to identify the most effective combination for enhancing production. The research was conducted from May to June 2025 in Kaskasen II Village, North Tomohon, North Sulawesi, using a Completely Randomized Design with one-factor combinations and six treatments (A: 150 ml/L water, B: 100 kg/ha NPK + 100 kg/ha Urea, C: 50 kg/ha NPK + 50 kg/ha Urea + 150 ml MOL, D: 50 kg/ha NPK + 50 kg/ha Urea + 300 ml MOL, E: 100 kg/ha NPK + 100 kg/ha Urea + 150 ml MOL, F: 100 kg/ha NPK + 100 kg/ha Urea + 300 ml MOL), each with four replications. The observed parameters included plant height, number of leaves, leaf length, leaf width, and fresh weight. The results showed that the combination of inorganic fertilizer and MOL had a significant effect on fresh weight (846.62 g), but no significant effect on plant height, number of leaves, leaf length, or leaf width. Therefore, the combination of inorganic fertilizer and MOL is effective in improving pakcoy yield. Keywords: pakcoy, inorganic fertilizer, local microorganisms

Abstract

ABSTRACT Upland water spinach (Ipomoea reptans, Poir) is a widely consumed leafy vegetable due to its good nutritional content, rapid growth, and ease of cultivation; however, its productivity often varies depending on the characteristics of the varieties used. This study aimed to determine the growth characteristics of five upland water spinach varieties, namely Bisi, Bangkok LP-1, Rajawali, Serimpi, and Bika. The research was conducted in Kalasey Satu Village, Mandolang District, Minahasa Regency from June to July 2025 using a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with five treatments and three replications, totaling 15 experimental units. Observations were carried out at 25, 30, and 35 days after planting (DAP) on plant height, number of leaves, number of branches, stem diameter, and fresh weight. The results showed no significant differences among varieties at 25 and 30 DAP, while significant differences occurred at 35 DAP. The Bika variety exhibited the best growth performance with an average plant height of 49.56 cm, 57.11 leaves, 8.78 branches, 8.52 mm stem diameter, and 48.33 g fresh weight, followed by Serimpi which also showed relatively high vegetative growth. The Bisi variety had a larger stem diameter but lower leaf and branch numbers, while Bangkok LP-1 and Rajawali displayed lower overall growth and yield. Based on these results, the Bika variety is recommended for cultivation due to its superior growth characteristics, and further studies are suggested to evaluate nutritional quality and determine optimal harvest timing to ensure both high yield and desirable consumption quality. Abstract

Growing media are one of the main components in plant cultivation, both conventional and modern, functioning as a medium for root growth and development, as well as providing nutrients, water, and air required for plant metabolism. This study aimed to determine the effect of growing media and to identify the best growing medium for the growth and yield of green mustard (Brassica juncea L.). This study was conducted in Kakaskasen Dua Village, North Tomohon District, Tomohon City, at an altitude of 800 meters above sea level. The research was carried out from October to December 2025 with a single-factor Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with five growing media treatments, namely soil (M0), soil : chicken manure (1:1) (M1), soil : chicken manure : rice husk charcoal (2:2:1) (M2), soil : rice husk charcoal (1:1) (M3), and soil : chicken manure : rice husk : rice husk charcoal (1:1:1:1) (M4), each replicated five times. The observed variables included plant height, number of leaves, and fresh weight of the plant. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA), followed by the Least Significant Difference (LSD) test at the 5% level. The results showed that treatment M2 produced the best growth (plant height of 44.72 cm and number of leaves of 16.60) as well as the highest fresh weight yield of green mustard. Abstract

Accurate and environmentally friendly fertilization is essential to optimize the growth of vegetable crops. This study aims to examine the effects of coconut water-based Liquid Organic Fertilizer (LOF) on the growth and yield of red amaranth (Amaranthus tricolor L.) under different application frequencies. The experiment was conducted from February to April 2025 at the Greenhouse of the Faculty of Agriculture, Sam Ratulangi University, Manado. A Completely Randomized Design (CRD) was used with four treatments: F0 (control/no LOF), F1 (LOF application once per week), F2 (twice per week), and F3 (three times per week), with each treatment receiving 250 ml per liter of water. Each treatment was replicated four times for a total of 16 experimental units and 32 plants. Observed parameters included plant height, number of leaves, and fresh weight. The results showed that application of coconut water LOF once a week (F1) significantly improved plant height, leaf number, and biomass compared to the control. However, increasing frequency beyond once a week (F2 and F3) did not lead to significant improvements, suggesting that one weekly application is sufficient and efficient. Therefore, coconut water-based LOF is recommended as an effective, eco-friendly alternative for red amaranth cultivation. Abstract

Chrysanthemum is an ornamental plant prepared for export by the City of Tomohon, but the availability of seedlings remains limited. Vegetative propagation with the aid of garlic extract as a natural growth regulator (PGR) can be a solution to accelerate the rooting of shoot cuttings. This study aimed to determine the effect of using garlic extract (Allium sativum L.) and to identify the best concentration of garlic extract as a natural PGR on the root development of chrysanthemum shoot cuttings (Chrysanthemum morifolium R.). The research was conducted in September 2024 at the Screen House of the UPTD Seed Breeding and Agrotourism Show Window, Tomohon City. The study used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with five levels of garlic extract concentration treatments: P0 (0% garlic extract + 100% sterile water), P1 (25% garlic extract + 75% sterile water), P2 (50% garlic extract + 50% sterile water), P3 (75% garlic extract + 25% sterile water), P4 (100% garlic extract + 0% sterile water). Each treatment was replicated three times, with three cuttings per experimental unit, resulting in a total of 45 cuttings. The observation data were analyzed using ANOVA and further tested with the 5% Least Significant Difference (LSD) test. The results showed that garlic extract had an effect on the root length of chrysanthemum shoot cuttings and provided protection against pest and disease attacks. Keywords: Garlic extract; Natural PGR; Shoot cuttings; Root growth; Chrysanthemum.
