Abstract

Abstract

Sentra Mulya Jaya’s (SMJ) interior redesign in East Jakarta is essential to establishing a welcoming and cosy environment for all patrons, including those with disabilities. With a focus on multi-service delivery based on family, community, and residential needs, SMJ offers Social Rehabilitation Assistance Services (ATENSI). The purpose of this study is to determine which interior features of the SMJ facility meet the needs of users and to examine the area using the inclusive design concept. A Likert scale is employed in this mixed-methods approach, but no in-depth statistical analysis is done. Direct observation, service user interviews, and documentation analysis of spatial facilities were used to gather data. The results of the study show that SMJ’s implementation of inclusive design principles still requires work. Among the problems noted are: a) a disregard for accessibility; b) a lack of knowledge about the significance of inclusive design; and c) the detrimental effects of non-inclusive design on user experience. Inadequate accessibility considerations, a lack of education regarding inclusive design, and a failure to adequately incorporate universal design principles into the current interior layout are among the issues that have been identified. In addition to supporting the accomplishment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 11 on inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable cities and communities, this study offers specific recommendations for enhancing SMJ's interior design following inclusive design principles. It is anticipated that the results will improve service quality at Sentra Mulya Jaya and advance inclusive design theory and practice.

Abstract

Deaf students have their characteristics in carrying out social interactions. Their distinctive social interactions influence the communal space setting on the Meruya campus of Mercu Buana University. This study uses a qualitative method and derives its approach from the emerging concept of deaf space architecture. Data were collected by mapping the behavior of deaf students, observation, and interviews. The results showed that behavior, activities, and spatial dimensions influenced the formation of communal spaces. Deaf students tend to rely on visual senses, which are controlled by spatial experiences in their activities. Deaf students tend to choose a gathering room that can provide easy access to move, which includes distance and density (deaf space), sensory reach, mobility, and the ability to provide high visibility to find out the presence of lecturers and an accessible parking area.[Mahasiswa Tuli memiliki karakteristik tersendiri dalam melakukan interaksi sosial.

Abstract

This International Joint Community Service (KLN) program aimed to improve inclusive communication competence among vocational students by addressing communication barriers between the hearing majority and Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing (HoH) communities. Conducted collaboratively by Universitas Mercu Buana and Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia at SMK Negeri 47 Jakarta, the program involved 14 students through participatory and competency-based training activities. The intervention was grounded in Personal Social Responsibility (PSR) and Shared Labor frameworks. Training activities included Deaf culture awareness, Communication Repair strategies, Total Communication principles, BISINDO practice, simulations, and reflective discussions. Evaluation results showed a 53% increase in understanding of Deaf culture, a 63% increase in basic BISINDO knowledge, a 55% increase in Communication Repair skills, and a 45% increase in communication confidence. Participants also proposed simple accessibility adaptations relevant to vocational contexts. The findings indicate that PSR-based inclusive communication training can strengthen ethical awareness, communication competence, and social inclusion in vocational education.
