Abstract

The phenomenon of "no viral, no justice" emerges due to public distrust of the justice system, prompting people to "play judge" themselves on social media in the name of substantive justice, despite the risks of defamation and violations of the legal process. The purpose of this research is to analyze the “no viral, no justice” phenomenon arising from social media-based law enforcement and evaluate its harmony with the principles of progressive law. This normative legal research uses a conceptual approach, applying primary and secondary legal materials, a literature study for data collection techniques, and content analysis to describe the application of progressive legal concepts in social media-based law enforcement. Qualitative data analysis is carried out systematically to draw conclusions in accordance with the research problem formulation. The results show that the "no viral, no justice" phenomenon arises because law enforcement is influenced by public pressure due to viral cases on social media to be addressed immediately, thus creating the perception that non-viral cases mean no justice. This contradicts the principles of progressive law, which promotes the protection of human rights, substantive justice, and rejects discrimination. Law enforcement is also still not considered harmonious with progressive law because viral cases on social media are prioritized without considering justice holistically, while the principles of equality before the law and the presumption of innocence should still be upheld before public pressure comes into play.

Abstract

In Bugis-Makassar families with a patriarchal cultural system, men are the backbone of the family and women only work in the domestic realm. The main problem faced by widows and divorcees of coastal fishers is the dual role that requires them to take care of the household and children as well as earn a living for the needs of the family. This dual function requires a widow to have a strategy and carry out these two roles simultaneously. This study aims to find out how the strategies for making a living for widows of coastal fishers in improving the family economy. This study uses a qualitative approach with case study method. The data collection technique uses a purposive sampling for determining the informant and conducting in-depth interview technique with eight widows consisting of four widows and four divorcees. We also observed the daily activities of the informants. Meanwhile, the interview process was carried out using semi-structured interviews about how the strategy for earning a living was carried out so that it could support the family economy. The study found social capital-based livelihood strategies for poor fishers. They often interpret the strategy as a way or an alternative to a situation. In this case, the widow or divorcee of a coastal fisher is part of the community. Widows and divorcees who work in more than one type of work make their association with others as a form of social capital. Thus, they can provide support to each other as aform of social security and  social capital to support the family.

Abstract

Conventional agricultural practices, such as burning or discarding rice straw, contribute to environmental degradation, highlighting the need for sustainable alternatives like zero-waste utilization. This study aimed to convert rice straw into organic fertilizer, reduce reliance on chemical fertilizers, and promote sustainable agriculture in Rilau Ale District, Bulukumba Regency. Through a community-based program, farmers were trained in waste-processing techniques using simple technologies. The results showed that 85% of participants adopted the method, eliminating straw burning while improving soil fertility and reducing chemical fertilizer use. This initiative demonstrates that zero-waste straw management is a replicable model for advancing agricultural sustainability and environmental resilience.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the development of democratic and bureaucratic theories that occur in developed and developing countries. The author identifies this research by analyzing journal articles that are indexed by Scopus as journals with reputable and accountable research outputs. The Scopus database was used as data in this study. This study uses a comparative qualitative method of analysis by comparing documents published in developed and developing countries. The results of this study show that; 1) The development of research related to democracy and bureaucracy based on the Scopus database has decreased significantly in 2017-2020, increased in 2021 and decreased again in 2022. 2) The predominance of research related to democracy and bureaucracy occurs in the United State, where the country is a full-fledged democracy. 3) The connectedness of the study during 2015-2022 is divided into 8 clusters, each cluster displays a comparison of countries with the interconnectedness between countries involved in the research. 4) The high weberianess of the state bureaucracy is due to the professional public administration before democracy combined with electoral competition and non-ethnic politics. Brazil, South Korea, and Taiwan are examples. Argentine hyper-presidentialism exacerbates top-down politicization of public administration and personalist patronage.
