Abstract

ABSTRACTThis study analyzed qualitatively the cohesive devices used in argumentative essays of undergraduate EFL students in South Sumatera, Indonesia. Eighty essays were collected from eight universities in which ten essays were obtained from each. Halliday and Hasan (1976) concept of grammatical cohesion was used as the framework for the analysis of the essays. All the cohesive devices were found. Reference had the highest frequency which is 50.24% of the total cohesive devices followed by conjuction which is 37.34%, lexical cohesion which is 7.7% and ellipsis which is 3.57%. Substitution was the least used type of cohesive device which is only 1.15%. In terms of correctness of using the devices, most of the devices were all used properly. It was revealed that there was still few mistakes of using reference and substitution since they both were frequently used in the essays. Hence, it can be concluded that the students are more familiar with the use of reference and conjunction even though they are able to use the other devices as well. Keywords: cohesive devices, argumentative essay

Abstract

Pantun dulu hidup di antara masyarakat Melayu di Indonesia, terutama di Sumatera Selatan. Tapi sekarang, tidak banyak orang di Sumatera Selatan menggunakan pantun dalam interaksi kehidupan sehari-hari di masyarakat. Hal ini membuat pantun hampir punah. Untungnya, salah satu grup di aplikasi WhatsApp yaitu "Grup Pantun Mahasiswa" mencoba untuk tetap menggunakan pantun dalam berkomunikasi antar anggota grup. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui nilai-nilai Islami yang terkandung dalam pantun yang dibuat oleh mahasiswa Fakultas  Ilmu Tarbiyah dan Keguruan, Universitas Islam Negeri Raden Fatah Palembang, Indonesia, dalam grup WhatsApp. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Dalam mengumpulkan data penelitian, peneliti mengumpulkan pantun-pantun di grup WhatsApp sejak 21 Januari 2019 hingga 21 Juli 2019. Pantun-pantun ini dibuat oleh 321 orang mahasiswa Fakultas  Ilmu Tarbiyah dan Keguruan sebagai anggota grup WhatsApp. Nama grup ini adalah "Grup Pantun Mahasiswa". Jumlah pantun yang menjadi data penelitian adalan 649 buah pantun. Selanjutnya, dalam menganalisis data penelitian, pertama-tama, peneliti membaca dan mempresentasikan pantun di grup WhatsApp tersebut, kemudian ia mengklasifikasikannya ke dalam kategori topik konten Islami dan non-Islami. Pantun-pantun bertopik Islami selanjutnya disubkategorikan ke dalam nilai-nilai Islami yang dikandungnya. Nilai-nilai Islami dalam pantun-pantun tersebut kemudian dideskripsikan satu per satu. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa dari 649 buah pantun, nilai-nilai Islami yang terkandung dalam pantun-pantun yang dibuat oleh anggota grup WhatsApp tersebut adalah sebagai berikut: beribadah kepada Tuhan (berdoa, berpuasa, dan memberi sedekah); sunnah pernikahan; menghormati orang tua; menghargai orang-orang yang lebih tua; ketekunan dalam bekerja; memenuhi undangan; saling mendukung dalam mencapai tujuan; menghibur yang sedang bersedih; meminta maaf dan saling memaafkan; pentingnya bersilaturrahim; saran untuk melakukan perbuatan baik; bersaing dalam melakukan perbuatan baik; melarang melakukan keburukan; saling membantu; saling mendoakan kesuksesan satu sama lain; persatuan di antara umat Islam; dan memuji makhluk ciptaan Tuhan. Sebagai kesimpulan, dari 649 buah pantun di grup WhatsApp tesebut yang dianalisis sebagai data penelitian, 51 buah pantun mengandung nilai-nilai Islami. Sementara, 598 buah pantun lainnya tidak mengandung nilai-nilai Islami.

Abstract

Keberagaman adalah realita. Suka atau tidak suka, kita tak terhindarkan akan saling bersinggungan di era globalisasi ini. Sehubungan dengan ini, peneliti menggali kepribadian multikultural (multicultural personality) 24 orang mahasiswa KKN UIN Raden Fatah Palembang angkatan ke 67 tahun 2017 yang berasal dari berbagai latar belakang budaya berbeda, dan mereka berinteraksi dengan masyarakat setempat yang latar belakang budayanya juga berbeda. Lokasi KKN tersebut bertempat di Desa Bangun Sari, Desa Suka Damai, dan Desa Muara Sugih Kabupaten Banyuasin. Dari 5 dimensi yang ada pada kepribadian multikultural yaitu dimensi empati budaya, fleksibilitas, inisiatif sosial, kestabilan emosi dan keterbukaan pikiran, dimensi kestabilan emosi menjadi dimensi paling dominan pada kepribadian multikultural Mahasiswa KKN Universitas Islam Negeri Raden Fatah Palembang di Desa Bangun Sari, Kabupaten Banyuasin dengan rata-rata sekor 62,63; dimensi paling dominan pada kepribadian multikultural Mahasiswa KKN Universitas Islam Negeri Raden Fatah Palembang di Desa Suka Damai adalah dimensi kestabilan emosi dengan rata-rata sekor 60,39; dan dimensi paling dominan pada kepribadian multikultural Mahasiswa KKN Universitas Islam Negeri Raden Fatah Palembang di Desa Muara Sugih adalah dimensi kestabilan emosi dengan rata-rata sekor 61,81.

Abstract

Quatrains used to live among Malays in Indonesia, especially in South Sumatera. But now, not many people in South Sumatera use quatrains in daily life interactions among people in society. It makes quatrains almost extinct. Fortunately, a group in whatsapp namely “Grup Pantun Mahasiswa” tries to remain using quatrains in communicating among the group members. The objective of this research is to find out the Islamic values contained in the quatrains made by the students of Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teaching Sciences, Indonesia, in the whatsapp group. The method of this research was descriptive qualitative. In collecting the research data, the researcher collected the quatrains in the whatsapp group since January 21, 2019 to July 21, 2019. These quatrains were made by 321 students of Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teaching Sciences as the members of the whatsapp group. The group’s name is “Grup Pantun Mahasiswa”. The number of the quatrains was 649 quatrains. Next, in analyzing the research data, first of all, the researcher read and presented the quatrains in the whatsapp group. Then she classified them into topic categories: Islamic and non-Islamic topic categories. The Islamic topic categorized quatrains were subcategorized into its Islamic values. The Islamic values were then described one by one. The result of the analysis showed that out of 649 quatrains, Islamic values contained in the quatrains made by the whatsapp group members are the followings: (1) worshipping God (praying, fasting, and giving alms); (2) the sunnah of marriage; (3) respecting parents; (4) appreciating elders; (5) diligence in working & fulfilling invitations; (6) supporting one another in achieving goals; (7) comforting the sad; (8) asking for forgiveness and forgiving one another; (9) the importance of silaturrahim; (10) suggestions of doing good deeds; (11) competing in doing good deeds; (12) forbidding doing the harms; (13) helping one another; (14) praying for one another’s success; (15) unity among Muslims; and (16) praising God’s creatures. In conclusion, out of 649 quatrains as the research data, 51 quartains contained Islamic values. While, other 598 quatrains did not contain any Islamic values.

Abstract

In order to realize the full potential of adults as learners, it is important for students to have high self directed learning by constantly monitoring their own learning progress, identifying areas where they lack and making conscious efforts towards their self-improvement. Therefore, the problems in this study are: 1) How is the self directed learning of the students of Islamic Religious Education Graduate Program at Universitas Islam Negeri Raden Fatah Palembang?; and 2) What is the most dominant aspect in their self directed learning? This research was conducted during the COVID-19 Pandemic, since March 2020 to August 2020.Therefore, this study has a limitation that the sample that could be taken was only 10 percent of the total population, namely 21 samples out of 211 population. This research is a quantitative descriptive study. The data was obtained through distributing ready made questionnaires made by Williamson (2007) to the samplse of this study. Then the data obtained from the questionnaire was analyzed using the Self-Rating Scale for Self-Directed Learning.The finding showed that: first, from the entire samples, 3 people (14.29%) of the samples had moderate self directed learning with SDL scores of 174, 202 and 212. The rest, 18 people (85.71%) of the samples had high self directed learning with SDL scores of 229, 240 (3 people), 241 (2 people), 246, 254, 257, 258, 270, 272, 280, 288, 290, 291, 295 and 299. None (0% ) of the samples had low self directed learning. Second, among the 5 aspects which contained in self directed learning, the second aspect, namely the learning strategy aspect, is the most dominant aspect compared to the other 4 aspects.

Abstract

This study aims to describe and analyze the principal's leadership style as well as supporting and inhibiting factors in developing the quality of the teaching staff at Madrasah Aliyah Miftahul Ulum Tanjungpinang, Riau Islands. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study research design. Data collection techniques used were observation, interviews and documentation. Techniques in the validity of data use persistence and triangulation observations. The results of the study can be explained as follows: (1) the leadership style of Miftahul Ulum Miftahul Ulum Tanjungpinang Madrasah that is responsible, energetic and high spirits, motivating, disciplined, and innovating, (2) the leadership style of the Miftahul Ulum Miftahul Ulum Madrasah leadership in Tanjungpinang is democratic, seen from the way madrasah head who respects the potential and intelligence of his subordinates, gives his subordinates the opportunity to be fully involved in madrasah development, freedom of opinion, decisions made based on mutual agreement, and (3) supporting factors for quality development of education staff who seek to optimize services for Madrasah Aliyah Miftahul Ulum Tanjungpinang. Then the ability to communicate well cares for all committed members and discipline. While the inhibiting factor is the existence of schools in the middle of the city that compete with other leading schools.

Abstract

This study investigates the efficacy of coping strategies for English language anxiety among lecturers and students within religious and general study programs, employing a mixed-methods approach that integrates quantitative T-tests and qualitative interviews. Results indicate significant differences in the anxiety-coping strategies between lecturers and students, with distinct variations across the two types of study programs. While strategies among religious and general program lecturers showed no significant differences, a marked contrast was observed between students of these programs, highlighting the influence of disciplinary context on anxiety management. The study reveals that lecturers and students successfully use tailored strategies to mitigate language anxiety, suggesting the importance of contextualized approaches. Based on these findings, it is recommended that educational institutions develop specific training programs that enhance the capability of educators and students to manage language anxiety effectively. Such programs should focus on communication techniques, psychological resilience, and cultural awareness, which are crucial in diverse academic environments. The implications of this research support a differentiated approach to language education policy, advocating for interventions sensitive to the unique challenges and needs of various academic disciplines.

Abstract

Need analysis is the first step in building a course or creating learning materials. It collects information from the research participants regarding their educational needs. This study investigated the students' need for Translation and Islamic contents in Translation class. The method of research was descriptive and quantitative The study participants were 105 sixth-semester students from four classes at the English Education Study Program of the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teaching Sciences, UIN Raden Fatah Palembang, who had passed the Translation Subject. A survey technique was used to collect the data. The researcher also interviewed eight students to uncover why they tended to choose some more needed content than the other contents in terms of translation and Islamic contents. The quantitative data obtained through questionnaires was analyzed using the Likert scale. Then, the result was put in the form of a percentage, which was arranged from very needed to not needed at all. The findings showed that first, for translation contents, in terms of the topics of texts to be translated in Translation Subject that are highly needed, are the ones in the field of language skills (55.2%); second, in terms of the language texts to be translated that are highly needed, are the ones written in English (41.9%); third, in terms of the level of texts to be translated that are highly needed, are the ones with high level (41.9%); and fourth, in terms of the genre of texts to be translated that are highly needed, are the ones with the genre of job application letter (42.9%); While, for Islamic contents, first, in terms of aqidah contents of texts to be translated in Translation Subject that are highly needed, are the ones consisting of rukun Islam (32.4%); second, in terms of akhlak contents of texts to be translated that are highly needed, are the ones comprised of the influence of socialization in life (35.2%); third, in terms of Al-Qur’an contents of texts to be translated that are highly needed, are the ones consisting of the privileges of the Qur’an (49.5%); and fourth, in terms of fiqih and muammalah contents of texts to be translated that are highly needed, are the ones consisting of rukun of prayer (27.6%).

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pelaksanaan pendistribusian zakat di Desa Betung Kecamatan Lubuk Keliat Kabupaten Ogan Ilir dan untuk mengetahui pelaksanaan syariat Islam terhadap pelaksanaan pendistribusian zakat di Desa Betung Kecamatan Lubuk Keliat Kabupaten Ogan Ilir. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian lapangan (field research) yang bersifat kualitatif sebagai penelitian lapangan. Sumber data dalam penelitian ini adalah data lapangan dan data kepustakaan. Teknik analisis data menggunakan metode deduktif yaitu mengamati hal-hal atau masalah yang bersifat umum kemudian menarik kesimpulan yang bersifat khusus. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa pendistribusian zakat desa Betung kepada mustahiqnya dilakukan setiap tahun di Masjid Al-Anshor, pendistribusian zakat fitrah dan zakat mal dilakukan di masjid tersebut dan juga ada beberapa muzakki yang secara langsung membayar sendiri dengan datang ke rumah-rumah fakir miskin dari pada menyalurkan zakatnya ke Masjid Al-Anshor yang telah disiapkan amil. Penyaluran zakat di desa Betung diberikan kepada fakir miskin, al-gharim dan ada juga yang membayar zakat kepada anak yatim. Pelaksanaan syariat Islam mengenai pembagian zakat kepada anak yatim di desa Betung tidak termasuk dalam golongan mustahiq zakat, karena terkadang ada anak yatim yang memiliki harta warisan yang cukup banyak dari orang tuanya. Sedangkan jika orang tua anak yatim tersebut miskin, maka tentu saja mereka berhak menerima zakat (bukan karena panti asuhannya, tetapi karena kemiskinannya). Menurut mazhab Syafi'i, zakat harus disalurkan melalui lembaga amil zakat yang telah dibentuk oleh pemerintah, asalkan pemerintah adil terhadap rakyatnya.
