Abstract

The objective of the study is to find out whether teaching reading by using think pair share technique cooperative learning can improve student’s reading comprehension. This study was conducted at second years students of SMAN 1 Kembang Tanjong, pidie. The writer used Think Pair Share Technique to teach the student in reading comprehension. The instrument used to collect data in this research was a set of test, that consisted of pretest and posttest. Pretest was given before the writer doing treatment by using Think Pair Share Technique to know the ability of student in mastering reading skill. Post-test was given to know the ability of the student after the teaching proses by used Think Pair Share Technique  for six times. The calculation of the data showed the average score of pre-test experimental class was 53,8 and control class was 47,4. Whereas value of post-test in experimental class was 63.73 and control class was 48,36. The writer got t-score of the students is 5,17 which higher than t-table 1,684 by the level significant of 5%. It indicated that there was a significance progression between students’ pre-test and post-test score in the experimental class after applying Think Pair Share Technique. So, the students’ who was taught reading skill by using think pair share technique were better than whose did not taught reading by using Think Pair Share Technique.Key Words: Reading, Think Pair Share, Cooperative Learning

Abstract

The objective of the study was to get the empirical data about the effect of using song on students’ speaking skill at the second year students of SMP Negeri 1 Mila, Pidie. The method of this study was quantitative method. To get the sample, researcher used random sampling as the technique. The sample of this study were class VIII.B as the experimental class and VIII.A as the control class. Both of the class were consisted of 22 students. In collecting the data, the researcher conducted pre test and post test by asking students singing songs. In the control class, the result of pre test(x1) score was 1285. The result of post test(x2) score was 1462. The gained(dx) both of pre test and post test was 182. The mean(Mx) score was 8,2. in the experimental class, the result of pre test(y1) score was 1190. The result of post test(y2) score was 1608. The gained(dy) both of pre test and post test was 418. The mean(My) score was 19. The testing of hypothesis was analyzed using t-test formula. The result ttest (t0) both of the classes was 3,14. The result of this study showed that there was significant difference on students’ speaking skill that was taught by using English song. In the table of significance, it could be seen on the significance degree or ? = 0.05 and df=42. The ttable (t095(42))=2,68. Then, by comparing the result t0 is bigger than ttable, that is 3.14 > 2,68. The hypothesis (Ha)  was accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. It can be concluded that the using of English song was effective in teaching speaking.Key words: Speaking, English song.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to discover the effect of applying SQ3R method in reading comprehension. Experimental research design is used as the research method. This research took place at SMPN 1 Mila. There was1 class chose as the sample with 24 students in class. The class was taught by using SQ3Rmethod.The instrument used to collect the data was a set of multiple choice tests, which divided as pre test and post test. The result of the research was analyzed by using t-test formula. The result showed that post -test was higher than pre-test Key Words: reading, SQ3Rmethod.

Abstract

Reading is a part of language skills that needs to be increased by the students. Learning Community is used. It invites the students to read, think, predict, and prove each paragraph in narrative text. It employs collaborative Action Research and subjects of the research are 27 students. The criteria of success including: students are active and happy, the students’ reading ability improves, and 80% students can achieve the passing grade of the reading comprehension in English lesson that is 75. The finding indicates that CTL Strategy could improve the students’ ability in reading comprehension of narrative text. Key Words: CTL, Learning Community (LC), reading comprehension, narrative text.

Abstract

Sudah menjadi rahasia umum bahwa manusia adalah makhluk sosial yang tidak mungkin pernah mampu hidup tanpa terkait dengan unsur-unsur di sekitarnya, baik lingkungan manusia maupun alamnya. Dalam hidup bermasyarakat manusia tidak mungkin hidup sendiri tanpa interaksi dengan orang lain ataupun menolak kehadirannya. Secara naluriah manusia terdorong untuk menyatakan eksistensinya, mengekspresikan perasaannya, menyalurkan aspirasinya, memberikan pendapatnya maupun mempengaruhi orang lain demi kepentingan sendiri, kepentingan kelompok, maupun kepentingan bersama. Bahasa dan masyarakat tidak pernah bisa dipisahkan satu dengan yang lainnya, karena di mana ada masyarakat, di situ ada bahasa, dan sebaliknya. Dengan demikian bahasa menjadi salah satu syarat keberadaan suatu masyarakat tertentu. Keberadaan bahasa dalam masyarakat dipelajari melalui sosiolinguistik, yang memandang bahasa sebagai alat komunikasi antar anggota masyarakat dengan variasi-variasinya sesuai dengan ranah sosialnya. Di lain pihak, pengajaran bahasa tradisional memandang bahasa sebagai sistem, sehingga melahirkan pengajaran bahasa strukturalis. Dalam perkembangannya, para proponen metode pengajaran bahasa menyadari bahwa bahasa bukan sekedar sistem, namun lebih merupakan alat komunikasi, sebagaimana yang dipelajari melalui sosiolinguistik. Kajian ini membahas bagaimana peranan sosiolinguistik dalam perkembangan pengajaran bahasa, mulai dari karakteristik masyarakat bahasa, fungsi bahasa, sampai pada model- model pengajaran bahasa yang berbasis sosiolinguistik. Sosiolinguistik sendiri juga merupakan salah salah satu teknik pengajaran bahasa yang bertujuan sebagai manifestasi bahasa sosial dalam bidang linguistik pendidikan. Sosiolinguistik sebagai bagian dari linguistik makro tidak hanya membahas aspek-aspek yang sempit, namun juga berbagai aspek yang luas, seperti variasi bahasa interferensi sebagai bentuk penyimpangan bahasa, dan etnografi komunikasi sebagai wujud masyarakat yang beraneka budaya. Bahan di dalam pengajaran bahasa juga ditentukan oleh sosiolinguistik. Tulisan ini akan mengulas mengenai kontribusi sosiolinguistik dalam penyediaan bahan pengajaran bahasa dari sudut pandang sosiolinguistik dan penentuan variasi bahasa (termasuk pronomina persona) yang digunakan di perguruan tinggi khususnya mahasiswa bahasa baik bahasa indonesia maupun bahasa inggris, penentuan interferensi yang muncul pada komunikasi pembelajar sebagai suatu bentuk kesalahan bahasa, etnografi komunikasi dalam pengajaran bahasa Indonesia untuk pengguna bahasa asing (BIPA), dan Bahasa Inggris sebagai entitas bahasa Asing. Tahapan penelitian ini ditujukan pada mahasiswa semester VI yang sedang mengambil mata kuliah sosiolinguistik yang bertujuan sebagai media perbandingan untuk mengukur analisa mahasiswa dalam memahami dan menerapkan sosiolinguistik baik dilingkungan mikro yaitu kelas, sampai dengan lingkungan makro yaitu masyarakat. Kata kunci: sosiolinguistik, pengajaran bahasa, variasi bahasa, interferensi, etnografi komunikasi, dan bahan pengajaran bahasa.

Abstract

The objective of the study is to find out whether does the pre-questioning technique improve the students reading comprehension or not .The population of this research is the second grade of  SMAN1 Glumpang Tiga. The sample of this study are one class was as experimental class (XI- IIS) where the writer applied Pre-Questioning technique in teaching learning activity, which consist of 20 students and the other one was as control class (XI-MIA 3) which taught by applying  other technique, consisted of 20 students including . The instrument used in this study was a set of written test which was used for pre test and post test. Pre-test was given before the writer held an experimental teaching. Post test was given after the writer did an experimental teaching. The result of this research showed that  in experimental class the mean of pre-test score (O1) was 55,10, the mean of post-test (O2) was 73,30 ,Furthermore in control class the mean of pre-test score (O1) was 53,80 , the mean of post test (O2) was 55,20 . It indictates that there was significance progression between students’ pre-test and post-test score in experimental class after teaching reading comprehension  by applying pre-questioning technique.  Or from the table 7 ( in the table of independent sample test ) we can see the significant value (sig) in the experimental class was 0,000 0.05,  so there is an increase in students' reading comprehension which is very significant on the reading comprehension by applying pre-questioning technique. It accepted the alternative hypothesis while rejected the null hypothesis. Base on the data analysis, showed that applying pre-questioning technique was significantly improve the students’ reading comprehension.

Abstract

The title of this research is students’ ability in writing part of speech registered 2019/2020 at Fort De Kock University, teaching english course in public health department, midwifery department, physiotherapy department, nursing department and bussiness digital department at Fort De Kock University Bukittinggi. The problem in this reserach is what is students’ ability in writing part of speech registered 2019/2020 at health faculty. The purpose of this research is to know students’ ability in writing part of speech. Part of speech refers to noun, pronoun, adjective, interjection, conjunction, preposition adverb and verb. This research uses descriptive method. It means that researcher describes the students’ ability as reality. Population of this research is public health and nursing students semester 1 of fort de kock university registered 2019/2020. The students have learnt about part of speech. Sample of this research is purposive sampling. It means that the researcher choose the participants or samples to be be researched, and also based on researcher need and researche question. The total of the sample is 51 students or participants. Collecting data is done by using writing test. The students re-write what have been seen in the question sheet. Then, reseracher asks students to re write in the answer sheet. In the answer sheet is provided for students to answer it. Then, it is analyzed whats’ students ‘ ability in writing part of speech. Based on the result found that students’ ability in writing part of speech is various. Students ability in writing noun, verb, adjective, adverb and cnjunction are good. Students ability in writing preposition is sufiicient. And students’ ability in wrting interjection is very good. It means that generally students have ability in writing interjection

Abstract

This article analyzes about english teachers ability and difficulty in speaking. The purpose of this research to know ability and difficulty in speaking. This research uses qualitative approach with descriptive method. The total participants of this research is 22 participants and for the sample uses purpose sampling. In collecting data the authors use instruments. The instruments are speaking test and interview. Speaking test is used to know the ability english teachers and the interview is used to know the aspects of difficulty in speaking. The finding shows that english teachers ability in speaking is 63. It means that the ability english teacher is sufficient. From interviewing the aspect makes english teacher difficulties are communication strategy (not confidence when speaking). It can be concluded that english teachers ability need some strategies to improve ability in speaking.Keywords : english teachers ability, difficulty and speaking

Abstract

This research was aimed to know the students’ perception about Google Translation tool in learning English. The background of the research based on the raised of the use Google Translation tool among students. Therefore, the researcher conducts a research regarding students’ perception on the use of Google Translation tool in learning English. To answer the problem above, there are two research questions formulated. (1) how many percent students of English Department use Google Translation tool in learning English and (2) Students’ perception on the use of Google Translation tool in learning English. Meanwhile, to solve the research question that was already formulated, the researcher applied descriptive qualitative research design. There were two sets of questionnaire as instrument used in this research which were the first questionnaire to answer the first research question and the second questionnaire to answer the second research question. The respondents of this research were active students of English Department at Jabal Ghafur University in batch 2016-2019. All of them were chosen by using purposive sampling. The findings of this research showed that the students of English Department at Jabal Ghafur University used Google translation tool in learning English because sometimes they had difficulties in understanding English especially in translation activity. They utilize it to help them such as to translate, as dictionary, to check synonym and antonym, and to check pronunciation. Furthermore, they had a positive perception about Google Translation tool in learning English with majority of answers chosen by them were “agree” that it was helpful in learning English. In addition, there were also suggestions to students who use Google translation tool in learning English and the future researchers.

Abstract

In this Industrial 4.0 revolution era, technological advances become things that cannot be solved in human life. Teachers must learn better in learning, need to utilize optimal learning resources, this is important, because the effectiveness of learning is also included by the willingness and ability to utilize learning media, such as the web (google class). In this era students are required to have certain skills, besides those educators are also required to have several competencies that must be possessed so that the e-learning program that they run can run well. An educator or teacher must be able to learn to be there to learn, be creative and fun.
