Abstract

To compensate the decline of the populations of temperate anguillid eels, tropical anguillid eels become getting attention of East Asian eel market in recent years. Many eel farms have been established in Java Island to culture tropical anguillid eels intending to export the products to East Asia. Since eel farming is reliant on wild-caught anguillid eels such as glass eels, elvers and yellow eels, these eel seeds have been captured in various places in Indonesia. However, it is still unknown that how much of tropical anguillid eels are caught as seeds for eel farming. This study showed two different patterns of the commodity chains of eel seeds from both Sukabumi Regency and Bengkulu Province to the eel farms in Java Island. Official catch statistics on anguillid eels found in both Sukabumi Regency and Bengkulu Province were also analyzed on their features and problems underlied. Considering the sustainable use of anguillid eel resources and critical stances on exploitation of eel seeds from all over the world, the Indonesian government should take an immediate action for developing the national catch statistics on anguillid eel fishery as soon as possible.

Abstract

Kadar kolesterol yang tinggi di dalam darah atau yang disebut dengan hiperkolesterolemia merupakan salah satu dari beberapa faktor risiko utama penyakit jantung koroner. Hiperkolesterolemia timbul karena adanya peningkatan kadar kolesterol LDL. Salah satu bahan alam yang dikenal dapat menurunkan kadar kolesterol secara empiris adalah penggunaan kulit buah terong ungu (Solanum melongena L) dan daun jambu biji (Psidium guajava L). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas dan pada dosis berapa suspensi ekstrak kombinasi kulit buah terong ungu (Solanum melongena L) dan daun jambu biji (Psidium guajava) dapat menurunkan kadar kolesterol pada tikus putih jantan (Rattus norvegicus) yang diinduksi dengan propiltiourasil dan kuning telur ayam negeri. Pengujian efektivitas penurunan kadar kolesterol dilakukan pengamatan sebanyak lima kali pengecekan yang diawali dengan pengecekan kadar sebelum induksi, lalu di cek kembali setelah diinduksi, kemudian pengujian efektivitas suspensi kombinasi ekstrak kulit buah terong ungu (Solanum melongena L) dan daun jambu biji (Psidium guajava) dan kontrol positif simvastatin dan kontrol negatif suspensi CMC Na 1%. Hasil penelitian penurunan kadar kolesterol pada tikus putih jantan menunjukan bahwa suspensi kombinasi ekstrak kulit buah terong ungu (Solanum melongena L) dan daun jambu biji (Psidium guajava) yang paling efektif terhadap penurunan kadar kolesterol pada tikus putih jantan (Rattus norvegicus) dengan dosis 50mg/200gBB/hari : 40mg/200gBB/hari. Simpulan adalah bahwa suspensi kombinasi suspensi ekstrak kulit buah terong ungu dan daun jambu biji dapat menurunkan kadar kolesterol dalam darah.

Abstract

Aquatic mammals in Indonesia are officially protected. However, there is a lack of research on these mammals, particularly in relation to potential disease-causing bacteria. A study was conducted in a conservation pond to address this gap, where swab samples were taken from the blowholes of aquatic mammals. The focus was on identifying bacteria that could potentially cause infectious diseases in these animals. The results revealed V. parahaemolyticus bacterial isolates, which showed a 98% similarity to the registered V. parahaemolyticus in NCBI. These bacterial isolates exhibited hemolysin properties and demonstrated resistance to trimethoprim, streptomycin, cephalothin, and penicillin antibiotics.
