Abstract

The 2024 Presidential Election is a political event that the public has been waiting for. At that time, the public can exercise their political rights to elect government leaders for the next five years. Seeing such great public attention, the mass media will place the 2024 General Election and Presidential Election as one of the main portions of the news. However, like the 2014 and 2019 Presidential Elections and Elections, it is suspected that it will be difficult for the mass media to stand in a neutral position. Mass media, especially television stations, are owned by entrepreneurs who are affiliated with political parties and support the 2024 presidential and vice presidential candidates.This research aims to explain the meaning of television journalists regarding media independence ahead of the 2024 general election and presidential election. This research uses a qualitative approach with phenomenological research method to understand the construction meaning of journalists. The object of this research is the meaning of television journalists regarding media independence ahead of the 2024 general election and presidential election. The research subjects were television journalists from two media groups, MNC Group and Media Group, who were selected purposively. The research data was analyzed using media political economy theory. Findings from the research show differences in the subjective meaning of media independence among television journalists. Although they agree on the urgency of media independence as a guardian of press freedom, differences of opinion arise especially regarding the role of media owners in editorial policy. Some journalists consider the intervention of media owners to be acceptable, while others consider it a violation of the journalistic code of ethics. Different views are also seen in terms of implementing media independence. Some see media independence as the freedom for the media to support political parties or presidential candidates that are in line with the editorial views. On the other hand, there are journalists who believe that media independence should be realized through a neutral and unbiased attitude

Abstract

In the current context of globalization, the process of passing on traditional knowledge, particularly in relation to medicinal plant applications, faces significant hurdles. Kampung Adat Dangiang, facing this challenge, has initiated the establishment of Sekolah Adat as a non-formal education initiative aimed at the conservation and transmission of cultural and traditional knowledge to the next generation. This research investigates Sekolah Adat in Kampung Dangiang as an institution that plays an important role in knowledge preservation, where traditional healing principles and ritualistic practices are passed on across generations. Qualitative methodology, specifically case studies, was adopted in this research, providing a more narrative and exploratory approach to data collection. Through direct interaction, observation of daily rituals, and literature review, the research gathered information enriched by snowball sampling techniques from informants. The results reveal Sekolah Adat as an entity steeped in traditional values, functioning not only as an educational institution but as a living repository of medicinal plant knowledge and ritual practices. The Sekolah Adat introduces a unique pedagogical approach, combining lectures, demonstrations and practical applications, which overall enriches the spiritual existence of learners. The program creates a synergy between traditional herbal wisdom, modern chemical principles, and deep inner healing techniques. Although this integration of tradition and modernity poses challenges, especially in the aspect of scientific validation of ancestral practices, a strong commitment to the efficacy of traditional medicine, supported by generations of knowledge and anecdotes, continues to overcome such obstacles. In conclusion, Sekolah Adat Dangiang stands as a testament to the resilience of traditions that are able to adapt elegantly amidst the changing modern world. It signifies the importance of local wisdom in keeping cultural heritage alive and relevant amidst fast-changing global dynamics.

Abstract

Public Relations (PR) has a strategic role as a managerial function in university management to support the achievement of the vision and mission of higher education institutions. This article examines the position, function, and strategy of PR within the university organizational structure, as well as its role in facilitating two-way communication between the organization and the public. Using theoretical and practical approaches, the article highlights the importance of PR in building harmonious relationships, managing the institution's image, and communicating strategic policies. In addition, it discusses the challenges faced by PR in universities, such as the low attention of the leadership to the role of PR and the need to develop the competence of the PR team. Placing PR in a strategic structural position can improve communication effectiveness, strengthen relationships with internal and external publics, and support the implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education. This article emphasizes that PR is a managerial function that has a strategic role in supporting the success of university management. PR does not only carry out communication tasks, but is also involved in building an image, maintaining mutually beneficial relationships between the university and its public, and supporting the achievement of the institution's vision and mission.

Abstract

Micro entrepreneurship in several districts and municipalities has been growing rapidly. The progress of this micro entrepreneurship can be achieved because of the efforts of the micro entrepreneurship and the strength of the entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurship needs a sustainable system so that the micro business can be stronger and more developed. The development of the micro entrepreneurship also depends on the role and the partiality of its local government which is influenced by the leadership style of the local government itself. This study is conducted to identify the impact of the leadership style of local government, to develop the characteristic and style of leadership role in local government, and to comprehend the leadership communication within the set context. The research is done by applying qualitative method with descriptive analysis in which secondary and primary data are about the micro entrepreneurship in Belitung District, Indonesia. The results show that the style of leadership gives influence to the rapid growth of a system which create partiality, commitment, consistency that showed by the sustainable regulation and policy of the local government. The style of the leadership creates the face and the character of the micro entrepreneurship of the local district which surely also determines the development of the micro entrepreneurship itself.

Abstract

A continuation research about the media used by human to communicate during PSBB period. This content of this research is about type of creative contents that can be used on social media. From the previous research, it was found that, in order to survive during pandemic and to live their daily lives, human need socializing and entertainment. Those are two important things for them. The purpose of this research is to find out types of media and digital content that are not only interesting to the respondent but also effective in conveying the communication message and can be utilize as a socialization platform. The concept of "social-media forum" which is applied to the published contents is considered different from other content in general. When the speaker invited is a person who also experiencing the same problem, audience interprets them as a friend who understand the problem and their feelings deeply, and from this angle it is hoped that the speaker and the audience can start to bond to exchange stories and opinions, not particularly about the solutions but might be just a perspective from different angle. However, doing this in virtually because of pandemic is tiring, all parties involved felt extreme fatigue after the event was over. It is because virtual meetings force human brain and body to put more focus and more alert for a long time, in the end, even casual conversation feels tiring. The samples taken for this research are located in Jakarta, focused to 20-29 years old  men and women. Data collection method is using qualitative approach with observation techniques, literature study, FGD, and interviews. When situations force us to shift into the digital and virtual realms, a recommendation for creative content format for screen-based social media is needed to be studied further, resulting in all parties involved do not have to feel an extreme fatigue but can become a useful communicator who offers solutions to others.
