Abstract

Introduction: Edentulism impairs the ability to chew, eat, and speak properly. Dentures, which aim to address this issue, are also believed to contribute to a decrease in the peak intensity value and spectral width of sound formants. Formants refer to the air within the vocal tract that is set in vibration by the vocal fold's action. This study aims to observe changes in formant values between complete denture users and participants with complete dentition. Methods: This preliminary study recruited six voluntary participants, divided into two groups. The first group consisted of subjects with complete dentition, while the second group comprised individuals wearing complete dentures on both arches. All participants introduced themselves, and their speech was recorded using PRAAT® software. For the second group, recordings were made both with and without dentures. Statistical analysis was performed using one-way ANOVA. Results: Significant differences in formant scores were observed across all groups. Post hoc tests revealed a significant difference in formant scores between completely edentulous subjects without dentures and the complete dentition group; Conclusion: Correcting speech defects is the third main objective in fabricating denture prostheses. Enhancing the phonetically beneficial construction of denture quality improves psychosocial parameters, including quality of life and socialization abilities, and accelerates successful Prosthodontic treatment. The findings indicate that the format score of a person with a complete denture is not substantially different from that of an individual with complete dentition. Conversely, individuals who have lost their complete dentures and not using complete denture may exhibit significant differences in formant score.

Abstract

The temporary crown must meet the patient's aesthetic needs even if it is used only for a while, especially gloss. It is believed that composite resin does not produce odor but shows minimal shrinkage, lower heatgenerated during polymerization, and is more aesthetically pleasing. Therefore, this material is one of the choices sothe clinicians can improve the patient's aesthetic needs. Nowadays, people demand clean and whiter teeth. Brushingwith whitening toothpaste is believed to affect the surface of the composite resin. The design of this study was alaboratory experiment. The sample in this study was a temporary crown material of acrylic resin and selfpolymerized composite resin with a sample size of 26 mm x 26 mm x 2 mm. All samples were tested using a gloss meter, followed by univariate statistical analysis to determine each group's mean gloss value and standard deviation. The research was continued using Wilcoxon statistical analysis to determine the difference in each group's temporary crown material gloss value. The results showed a significant difference in all temporary crown materials gloss value before and after brushing with whitening toothpaste. The conclusion of this study state that the composite resin material group has a better gloss value than acrylic resin material. Composite resin can maintain gloss value at gloss standard, even after brushing with abrasive toothpasteKEYWORDS: Temporary crown, Gloss, Gloss Meter

Abstract

Arah sudut penyinaran  90° dan jarak 1 mm  lebih direkomendasikan untuk mendapatkan penyinaran maksimal agar mahkota sementara dapat terpolimerisasi dengan baik.KATA KUNCI: Arah Sudut, Jarak, Ketepatan Marginal, Mahkota Sementara, Urethane DimethacrylateEffect of irradiation direction and distance on marginal fit of provisional crown material: Study experimentalABSTRACTIntroduction: With the advancement of technology, provisional crown materials based on composite resin can be polymerized through light activation. Inaccurate angulation and distance of light irradiation may increase the occurrence of gaps and marginal discrepancies. This factor plays an important role in ensuring optimal marginal accuracy during the curing of provisional crowns. This study aimed to analyze the effect of different irradiation angles and distances on the marginal accuracy of light-cured urethane dimethacrylate (UDMA) composite resin provisional crowns. Methods: Forty light-cured composite resin samples were divided into four groups (10 samples each). Group A was irradiated with an LED light-curing unit (B.G Light®, Bluedent, Bulgaria) at a distance of 1 mm and a 45° angle. Group B was irradiated at a distance of 3 mm and a 45° angle. Group C was irradiated at a distance of 1 mm and a 90° angle. Group D was irradiated at a distance of 3 mm and a 90° angle. Samples were immersed in distilled water for 7 days to simulate the oral cavity’s pH conditions, followed by marginal gap measurement using a stereomicroscope (Zeiss Stereo Discovery® V12, Germany). Univariate analysis was used to determine the mean and standard deviation of marginal accuracy, and one-way ANOVA was applied to evaluate differences between irradiation angles and distances. Results: One-way ANOVA revealed significant differences in marginal gaps on the buccal side among all tested groups (p = 0.026). Post Hoc analysis indicated a significant difference between Group C and Group D (p = 0.005). Conclusion: Post Hoc testing showed that Group A (45° angle, 1 mm distance) differed only from Group D (90° angle, 3 mm distance) (p = 0.019), while Group C (90° angle, 1 mm distance) showed a significant difference from Group D (p = 0.005). An irradiation angle of 90° at a distance of 1 mm is recommended to achieve optimal polymerization and marginal adaptation of provisional crowns.KEYWORDS: Irradiation angle, Distance, Marginal accuracy, Provisional crown, Urethane dimethacrylate

Abstract

One of pandemic effect is that people being afraid to have their regular dental treatment and tends to have their own medication. Dentist and dental nurses as workerin public health provider also afraid on doing dental treatment on a reason highly contamination and transmission of the virus. Delaying aerosol generating procedures is found as the only choice, except for emergency case. However, the uncertainty of pandemic era and dental treatment needs, urge the health workers to have innovation in dental treatment service.  Using mobile dental clinic Dinas Kesehatan Kabupaten Langkat di Puskesmas Sambirejo is a solution. The implementation of service activities in mobile dental clinic are mainly in self Protection equipment, SOP in  Standart Precaution, sterlisation and aseption and also patients admision flow in pandemic era for health care providers as a way to improve their knowledge in handling patient in pandemic era. The delay of action in dental procedur can be solved by facilitating mobile dental clinic according to standard health protocol. Instead of only reaching rural area, this mobile dental clinic can also be used in narrow building with limited space. The SOP protocol can also be used by dentis and dental nurses to control infection in mobile dental clinic. This article tries to support government in raising the degree of mouth and dental health services in pandemic era.

Abstract

The aesthetics of fixed denture treatments are important factors that determine the success of the treatment. The optimal esthetic results in the manufacture of crowns and bridges require several considerations such as the size, shape, and color of the denture. The right color is one of the factors that influence the success of fixed bridges (GTJ) from an aesthetic aspect. In this descriptive survey research, the author examined the color of the ceramic metal that would be attached to the patient and compared it to the color guide and then the author distributed a questionnaire to assess the level of knowledge from clinical clerkship students at Prosthodontics Department Universitas Sumatera Utara regarding the procedure in determining the color of dentures. A colorimeter is used as a tool in determining the color accuracy of fixed dentures. The mean difference in color between the fixed denture and the color guide was tabulated and univariate analysis was performed. The results showed no significant color difference between the fixed denture and the color guide. 80,95% of respondents had a good knowledge level in the determining color procedure.
