Abstract

Questions about the origins of humanity are challenging and motivating inquiries that can serve as a tool to encourage students to think critically. That context can also be provided to students when discussing the integration of science and religion. In this study, we measured the effectiveness of science and religion integration training specifically for Muslim students. This training intervention consists of three seminars, namely the integration of science and Islam methods, the context of human origins, and its writing, each developed by a mixed team of science and religion experts. By combining training observations and reflective essays, this study evaluates the training approach and how the program influences students' opinions/beliefs about the compatibility of science and religion. Specifically, this study explores students' ability to engage in critical thinking and express themselves when faced with explanations of science and religion simultaneously. As a result, there was a change in the beliefs of the students before and after the training, where the students shifted their opinions towards a more reconciliatory stance. However, the presence of a small number of students who are moving in opposite directions encourages educators to explore various methodologies for integrating science and religion that are more appropriate. Overall, this research contributes to the fundamental understanding of how students interpret science and religion, as well as the pedagogical approaches that can be used to navigate their interpretations from conflict to integration.

Abstract

Through the implementation of the Aswaja learning model in schools, this community service aims to develop Muslims with religious-nationalist personalities. It was carried out in three phases of activities, namely education & outreach, implementation & strengthening and intensive mentoring from March to May 2021 at SMP Darul Faqih Indonesia, Malang Regency. The results of the activity assessment showed a change in Aswaja's attitudes and practices in fostering religious-nationalist values in students. This also has implications for strengthening religious moderation in the school environment. The results of the correlation test of students' attitudes and practices showed a score (R-square: P-value) of 0.126: 0.000, which indicates that this activity has a significant impact. The implementation of the Aswaja learning model is aimed at providing a balanced understanding of religion and nationalism. Strengthening the understanding of religious moderation with a nationalism - religious spirit will be an important ingredient in the development of peace culture education-based schools in Indonesia

Abstract

Strengthening the values of religious moderation in schools requires teaching materials that are relevant, systematic, and easily understood by students. At Darul Faqih Indonesia Junior High School, the Aswaja teaching materials currently in use have not fully addressed students’ learning needs, indicating the necessity for more innovative and engaging learning resources. This study aims to develop a valid Aswaja learning module that supports the learning process and strengthens moderate religious values. The research employed a research and development (R&D) approach using a modified ADDIE model. Data were collected through interviews and questionnaires and analyzed using qualitative and quantitative descriptive techniques. The resulting product is an Aswaja learning module designed to integrate religious moderation values, 21st-century learning principles, and technology-based instructional media. Validation results demonstrate a very high level of feasibility, with scores of 93% from subject matter experts, 92.92% from media experts, and 98.40% from learning experts. These findings indicate that the developed module effectively meets learning objectives and indicators while supporting adaptive, interactive, and student-centered learning. Practically, the module serves as a structured and applicable learning resource that assists teachers in implementing Aswaja learning integrated with religious moderation values and encourages students’ active and independent learning. Theoretically, this study contributes a development model for Aswaja teaching materials aligned with religious moderation and 21st-century, technology-based learning, which may inform similar educational developments in other contexts.
