Abstract

Health is a state of well-being, physically, mentally, spiritually and socially that enables everyone to live a socially and economically productive life. Pulmonary tuberculosis is a global health problem that can impact productivity and quality of life. According to WHO, there are an estimated 1,020,000 new TB cases per year (399 per 100,000 population) with 100,000 deaths per year (41 per 100,000 population). Compliance of pulmonary tuberculosis patients in taking medication is key to the success of tuberculosis treatment. This study aimed to explore patients' perceptions of pulmonary tuberculosis and medication adherence. This study is a qualitative study with a phenomenological approach. Data were collected using in-depth interviews and then analyzed by content analysis. The informants in this study consisted of eight tuberculosis patients. The results of this study found three themes, namely (1) understanding of tuberculosis disease, (2) the impact of tuberculosis disease, (3) patients' perceptions of tuberculosis disease. It was concluded that a better understanding of tuberculosis disease and treatment adherence can contribute to treatment success. It is suggested that patients can be aware and encouraged to take medication regularly.

Abstract

The increasing burden of TB is caused by poverty, failure of TB activities due to inadequate political commitment and funding, unavailability of services in the community leading to reduced problem innovation and inappropriate diagnosis, reduced supply of medicines and unreported movement of people. This study aims to determine the barriers to non-adherence of tuberculosis patients to their treatment. This research is a qualitative study with a phenomenological approach. Data were collected using in-depth interviews and then analyzed using content analysis. The informants in this study consisted of 16 participants, consisting of 8 participants from the family of tuberculosis patients and 8 participants from tuberculosis patients. The results of this study found four themes, namely (1) Prolonged illness and long treatment, (2) Family persistence, (3) Interaction patterns, (4) Medication adherence. It is concluded that by knowing the obstacles of tuberculosis patients during their treatment, solutions can be found that influence increasing the patient's compliance to take medication regularly and make regular control/visits. It is also recommended that families encourage patients to continue to participate in religious activities while still complying with health procedures

Abstract

Students have understood the theory of therapeutic communication and nursing science, but still struggle to connect the causes of diseases, physiological changes, nursing problems, interventions, and patient education in a simple explanation. To improve communication skills, clinical reasoning, disease pathway development, and students' confidence when providing education to patients and families. Socialisation, material provision, demonstration, case discussion, pathway development, role simulation, mentoring, pre-test, post-test, questionnaire, and practice observation. The article states that there is an increase in knowledge, the ability to create pathways, the use of simple language, empathetic attitudes, and skills in validating patient understanding. Program indicators were reported to be achieved, including 98% attendance, 85% post-test improvement, 90% ability to create pathways, and 80% therapeutic communication practice. Disease pathways are positioned as a learning medium that bridges basic nursing knowledge, clinical reasoning, and therapeutic communication, and it is recommended to be integrated into laboratory learning and clinical practice.
