Abstract

It is crucial to start teaching English to children at a young age because of how important it is to learn it. In practice, English is not an easy language to teach to elementary school students. There are several main reasons why English is difficult to teach, the first is that English words and sentences are difficult to pronounce because they are written and pronounced differently. In addition, the lack of teacher skills in terms of mastering teaching techniques and methods makes students less interested in learning English. The problems faced by children in Bawasalo Village are the lack of mastery of vocabulary and correct pronunciation so that they have low English quality. The purpose of this service is to provide English language training through songs and games for children in Bawasalo Village, Maros Regency, South Sulawesi. The method of implementing this service is in the form of English song pronunciation and games that are suitable for elementary school children. The results of this activity show that children are more enthusiastic about learning English through games and songs. In fact, children can also easily master new vocabulary and good pronunciation

Abstract

One of the important factors that influences the success of learning is the teacher's understanding of students' learning styles. This community service activity aimed to enhance teachers’ understanding and skills in identifying students’ learning styles through the use of the digital application “VAK-ZA Learning Style Identification”. The program was conducted on August 7–8, 2025, at SMP Negeri 28 Satap Salenrang, Maros Regency, involving 18 training participants consisting of teachers and staff, as well as 179 students who installed the “VAK-ZA Learning Style Identification” application. The application was developed in two formats, namely web and APK versions, which can be used both online and offline, making it flexible for various school infrastructure conditions. The implementation of the program included the socialization of Visual, Auditory, and Kinesthetic (VAK) learning style concepts, training in using the application, mentoring for student identification practices, and follow-up discussions on integrating the results into differentiated instruction. The results showed an improvement in teachers’ knowledge of learning style concepts as well as their skills in operating the application. Based on questionnaires, 100% of participants considered the application easy to use, useful, and relevant to learning needs. The application has proven effective in accelerating the identification process of learning styles and providing applicable teaching strategy recommendations. These findings affirm that collaboration between universities and schools can produce technology-based learning innovations that have the potential to be replicated in other schools.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the use of English slang in TikTok comments and its impact on user vocabulary enrichment. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through observation of comments on @ivanka_djo's TikTok account and interviews with ten active TikTok users. Data analysis was conducted using a thematic approach to explore the meaning, function, and user perceptions related to the use of slang. The results show that respondents use English slang on TikTok not only to follow trends, but also to express personal experiences. This slang helps enrich vocabulary, increase self-confidence, and create a sense of community. In addition, the use of slang makes language learning more fun and relevant to everyday life. However, the rapid evolution of slang can sometimes make understanding difficult and lead to misunderstandings, especially outside the TikTok community or with other generations. The dominance of slang also risks reducing the use of formal English, which is important in academic and professional contexts. Therefore, it is important to document TikTok slang in order to benefit language learning and cultural studies in the digital age.

Abstract

This research aimed to explore the influence of students' self-efficacy on their English-speaking skills at MTsN 1 Maros. This study employed a qualitative method, with data collected through interviews and observations. The population of this research consisted of ninth-grade students at MTsN 1 Maros, and a purposive sampling technique was used to select six participants representing varying levels of self-efficacy. The data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. The findings reveal that students with high levels of self-efficacy tend to be more confident, willing to face speaking challenges, able to regulate their emotions, and capable of applying their speaking skills in a variety of contexts both inside and outside the classroom. They also show greater tolerance for mistakes and possess intrinsic motivation to continue practicing. On the other hand, students with low self-efficacy tend to avoid speaking tasks, experience anxiety, and feel more comfortable in structured or guided speaking situations. The three dimensions of self-efficacy magnitude, strength, and generality were found to significantly influence students' engagement in speaking activities. These findings highlight the importance of fostering students’ self-efficacy through consistent practice, social support, and a psychologically safe learning environment.
