Abstract

Literacy is one way to build and develop children's thinking power which is important for students. However, students' literacy habits are still low. This study aims to obtain information about the application of literacy culture at the school, and the application of literacy using story book for students. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach with a survey method. The subjects of this study were students of Elementary school. Data collection techniques through observation, interviews and documentation. Data analysis through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results showed that literacy activities at the school had been implemented with literacy fifteen minutes before class and used every corner of the school to read, while the implementation of literacy using story books was done by inviting students to read books with various story titles. It can be said that Kartika Elementary School already has a good literacy program and the application of literacy using story books is able to invite students to retell the story and take the stories presented.

Abstract

This study aims to out the students’ interest to learn English writing through Semantic Mapping Technique. This research is carried out under a descriptive qualitative paradigm at the Junior High School of Kartika XX-I Makassar. The purposive sampling technique is used to select the sample from the population, which consisted of 70 students in three classes. The chosen sample is the students of A class that consisted of 29 students. The data of the students’ interests is collected by using students’ experiences in learning by using semantic mapping. Those are by observation and questionnaires. Data analysis through data reduction, data presentation, and concluding stages. The result shows that the student's interest to learn writing through the Semantic Mapping Technique is categorized as very high. The students feel motivated, excited, and active in joining the class. Keywords: Semantic Mapping, Learning English, Writing Ability

Abstract

Memiliki kemampuan dalam mengatur sitasi dan daftar referensi pada penulisan artikel ilmiah merupakan hal yang sangat penting dan mendasar. Terdapat banyak software manajemen referensi yang dapat digunakan agar kegiatan mengatur, menyimpan dan membuat daftar sumber referensi menjadi sangat mudah, diantaranya yaitu dengan software Endnote dan Zotero. Tujuan dari kegiatan ini adalah untuk memberikan pelatihan kepada guru-guru SMK Negeri 3 Pangkep untuk bisa menggunakan software manajemen referensi dalam penulisan artikel ilmiah sehingga para guru dapat lebih produktif dalam menulis. Kegiatan ini menghasilkan respon yang positif dari para guru, mereka berpendapat kegiatan ini sangat bermanfaat dan menambah pengetahuan yang baru. Apalagi, sebagai pendidik, mereka diharuskan untuk selalu berkarya dan produktif, dalam hal ini software manajemen referensi sangat mempermudah dalam menuliskan sebuah karya ilmiah.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the types of errors found in writing recount texts at SMA Negeri 3 Pangkep and to identify the most frequently occurring errors when students write recount texts at SMA Negeri 3 Pangkep. The researchers used a mixed-method approach, consisting of both qualitative and quantitative methods. The population in this study comprised class XI students, which consisted of six classes: XI IPA 1 (32 students), XI IPA 2 (31 students), XI IPA 3 (32 students), XI IPA 4 (30 students), XI IPS 1 (35 students), and XI IPS 2 (32 students). The total number of students was 192. Sampling was done using a purposive sampling technique, and the sample in this study was students from class XI IPA 1, consisting of 32 students. The results of this study, referring to the classification by Betty S. Azar, showed that the total number of errors was 370. The two most frequent types of errors were verb tense errors, with 73 errors (16% of the total), followed by word choice errors, with 38 errors (13.9% of the total).

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi pengaruh penggunaan media sosial terhadap peningkatan keterampilan berbicara Bahasa Inggris di kalangan mahasiswa program studi S1. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah pendekatan kualitatif dengan fokus pada studi kasus. Penelitian dilakukan dengan mengumpulkan data melalui observasi partisipatif, wawancara mendalam, dan analisis konten dari interaksi di media sosial yang terlibat dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan media sosial secara konsisten memberikan dampak positif terhadap kemampuan berbicara, terutama dalam hal pelafalan, kosa kata, dan kepercayaan diri. Faktor-faktor seperti frekuensi paparan, jenis konten yang dikonsumsi, dan keterlibatan aktif dalam praktik bahasa melalui komentar atau video interaktif menjadi penentu utama keberhasilan, hasil dari penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan wawasan bagi pendidik dan mahasiswa dalam memanfaatkan media sosial sebagai alat pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris yang efektif.

Abstract

Therefore, schools as one of the three educational centers should implement a literacy culture to improve children's thinking skills. This study aims to examine information about the application of literacy culture in schools and to apply literacy using children's stories for students. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach with a survey method. The subjects of this study were elementary school students. Data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and concluding. The results showed that literacy activities in schools had been implemented with literacy fifteen minutes before the lesson started and used every corner of the school as a reading corner, while the implementation of literacy using storybooks was done by inviting students to read books with various story titles. Based on these results, it can be concluded that elementary schools already have a good literacy program and the application of literacy using storybooks can invite students to retell the story content and the moral values of the story. This research implies that schools should optimize their role as one of the three educational centers to build and develop literacy habits for elementary school students.

Abstract

As the demand for English language proficiency is getting higher nowadays, a teacher as one of the important elements in teaching must maximize and facilitate students in learning. One of the supporting elements in learning is the use of media in helping teachers deliver learning materials. This study aims to determine how English teachers’ thoughts toward the use of media in teaching English. This study was a qualitative study with data collection techniques through observation and interviews. The population in this study was 3 English teachers at Junior High School Kartika XX-I Makassar by using a total sample as a sample selection method. This study used qualitative analysis techniques developed by Miles and Huberman, namely data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. From the results of the data collection carried out that teachers express positive views on the use of media to improve students' English learning abilities. It was known that teachers use LCD, PowerPoint, YouTube, books, and games as media in their learning. Media has an important role in training students to use English. In addition, the use of interesting media can foster students’ motivation and enthusiasm.
