Abstract

A narrative text with several grammatical and linguistic aspects is one of the texts learned in senior high school. In fact, according to the researcher's prior observation, students faced numerous challenges when attempting to write it, especially grammatical mistakes in using language features. This study aims to detect grammatical errors in the utilization of language elements in narrative texts produced by students, as well as to determine the underlying reasons contributing to these errors. The recent research employed a descriptive qualitative methodology. Eight of the eleventh-grade students studying Online Business and Marketing major in SMK Negeri 1 Kota Sorong have been selected as the participants in this research. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation which restricted social interactions, only those students than could be reached out to gather data. The data was derived from a writing exam and a semi-structured interview. Upon analyzing the student's writing, it was discovered that they made errors in utilizing the simple past tense and action verbs. Simultaneously, the interview data indicated that the causes contributing to grammatical errors in using language features in this study were limitations, lack of attention, and carelessness. This research finding implied that the teacher must identify the most effective technique to engage the student's attention and enable them to concentrate on acquiring language skills for future use in creating narrative texts.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi pengaruh penggunaan media sosial terhadap peningkatan keterampilan berbicara Bahasa Inggris di kalangan mahasiswa program studi S1. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah pendekatan kualitatif dengan fokus pada studi kasus. Penelitian dilakukan dengan mengumpulkan data melalui observasi partisipatif, wawancara mendalam, dan analisis konten dari interaksi di media sosial yang terlibat dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan media sosial secara konsisten memberikan dampak positif terhadap kemampuan berbicara, terutama dalam hal pelafalan, kosa kata, dan kepercayaan diri. Faktor-faktor seperti frekuensi paparan, jenis konten yang dikonsumsi, dan keterlibatan aktif dalam praktik bahasa melalui komentar atau video interaktif menjadi penentu utama keberhasilan, hasil dari penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan wawasan bagi pendidik dan mahasiswa dalam memanfaatkan media sosial sebagai alat pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris yang efektif.

Abstract

Virus corona merupakan suatu kelompok virus yang dapat menyebabkan penyakit pernafasan pada hewan atau manusia. Virus corona diketahui menyebabkan infeksi saluran nafas pada manusia mulai dari batuk pilek, hingga yang lebih serius seperti Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) dan Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) (Guan, dkk 2020). Virus corona jenis baru yang ditemukan menyebabkan penyakit COVID-19 (WHO, 2020). Sampai saat ini laju persebaran Corona virus masih tinggi, maka dari itu sangat diperlukan peran masyarakat dalam membantu pemerintah untuk mencegahnya. Sebagai salah satu civitas akademika yang memiliki tugas Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi yaitu Pendidikan dan Pengajaran, Penelitian dan Pengembangan, serta Pengabdian membuat mahasiswa ikut berperan sebagai agen perubahan melalui program pengabdian sebagai alternatif fasilitas dalam melakukan perubahan di masyarakat. Salah satunya dengan program kegiatan Pengabdian Masyarakat oleh Mahasiswa (PMM) Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang. Kelompok 90 PMM Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang gelombang 7, juga berusaha untuk menerapkan dan mengembangkan diri dengan terjun ke lapangan, terjun ke masyarakat yang berada di Dusun Mojosari, Desa Ngenep, Kecamatan Karangploso, Kabupaten Malang, Provinsi Jawa Timur dengan program-program yang dibawa. Setelah pelaksanaan pengabdian selama 31 hari di lapangan, dengan berbagai program, didapatkan hasil perkembangan baik di desa maupun kepada mahasiswa. Dimana program pengabdian ini telah mengembangkan kemampuan dan pemahaman mahasiswa terkait masyarakat. Dengan adanya Covid-19 ini kampus tetap berupaya memberikan solusi terbaik untuk PMM 2020 salah satunya melalui diskusi yang dilakukan dalam bentuk pelatihan, sosialisasi, dan pendampingan secara online.

Abstract

A community empowerment activity has been carried out aimed at applying simple fish processing technology to improve the economy of the people of Oransbari Beach, South Manokwari, starting from the problem, namely that although there is abundant fisheries potential, it has not significantly increased the economic income of fishing communities because the selling value is not commensurate with production costs due to lack of there are efforts to handle post-catch and a lack of efforts to diversify post-harvest fishery products. The method applied is Andragogik (adult learning) with activity stages namely socialization, training, application of technology, mentoring and evaluation monitoring. The results achieved are (1) facilitated efforts to increase mastery of knowledge and skills in processing various processed fish and various flavors, (2) facilitated the design of one unit of fish dryer/grilling equipment for post-harvest fish processing, (3) facilitated the provision of a cooler (freezer) to prevent post-catch damage and storage of fish, (4) facilitated the procurement of packaging machines for various processed fish products, (5) facilitated increasing the capacity of Partner resources in mastering knowledge and simple marketing skills

Abstract

In the current digital era, there are many tools or media that support English language learning by utilizing social media, such as TikTok which is one of the trending media.This research aims to explore the positive and negative experiences of students while using TikTok for learning English in higher education. The research method used is phenomenology with observation and interview techniques.The research indicate mostly positive and interesting learning experiences, driven by vocabulary growth, improved pronunciation and listening skills, and the platform's high accessibility, diverse content, and support for self-reflection and knowledge sharing. However, there are challenges such as distractions, content difficulty, technical issues, and a lack of structured learning. Nevertheless, TikTok significantly enhances student motivation.

Abstract

Penelitian ini mengkaji tantangan dan manfaat penggunaan English Medium Instruction (EMI) dalam pembelajaran English as a Foreign Language (EFL) di dua SMA negeri di Kota Manokwari, Papua Barat. Penelitian menggunakan desain studi kasus kualitatif dengan melibatkan 10 guru bahasa Inggris dan 50 siswa kelas XI. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara, observasi kelas, dan analisis dokumen, kemudian dianalisis secara tematik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa implementasi EMI menghadapi kendala linguistik, keterbatasan infrastruktur, dan faktor sosial-budaya. Meskipun demikian, EMI memberikan manfaat berupa peningkatan kepercayaan diri siswa dalam berbicara, motivasi belajar, dan keterampilan berpikir kritis. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa EMI berpotensi efektif di konteks EFL terpencil apabila diterapkan secara fleksibel dan disesuaikan dengan konteks lokal.

Abstract

This study aims to develop and evaluate augmented reality-based career card games as a career information tool for high school students. The research method uses a modified Borg & Gall research and development model, with stages including needs analysis, product design, expert validation, and practicality testing. Data were obtained through questionnaires and interviews, then analyzed descriptively and quantitatively. The results showed that students need career guidance media that is more interesting, interactive, and technology-based. The AR Career Explorer product was declared highly valid and practical by experts, guidance counselors, and students. The novelty of this study lies in the integration of Holland's theory with AR technology in the form of a card game, which has not been found in previous studies. This media is suitable for use as an innovative alternative to improve career information services in high schools.
