Abstract

The main purpose of this community science and technology program is to improve health and optimize the potential of SDN 1 Perean Kangin in learning activities. There are a number of problems that SDN 1 Peran Kangin has, namely: 1) there are still many students who cannot brush their teeth properly, 2) students cannot wash their hands according to the guidelines of the Department of Health in the school yard and 4) there is no trash can classroom. To overcome these problems, technology transfer is needed through counseling activities, and demonstrations in the field. From the activities that have been done, the results are 1) students are able to brush their teeth properly because of the direction and demonstration from the dentist 2) students are able to wash their hands according to the MOH instructions, 3) the plants in the school yard have labeled the Latin name of the plant , 4) each class room has organic and non-organic bins.

Abstract

Osteoblasts are bone-forming cells to grow and play a role in regulation of bone metabolism, including alveolar bone. Imbalance of osteoblasts number in bone formation may lead loss of bone mass, which is causes osteoporosis. Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) is an oxidant that take important roles in osteoclast activation, osteoclastogenesis and activation of osteoblasts inhibition. Kombucha tea has antioxidant effects. This study was conducted to determine Kombucha tea fermented on 14 days make the osteoblasts in the mandibular bone of male wistar rat more numerous. This research was a purely experimental method with Randomized Post Test Control Group Design. Subjects consisted of ten of three – month male wistar rats were divided into 2 groups. Control group received aquadest for 30 days, on the other hand the treatment group were treated by 8 ml of Kombucha tea for 30 days. On the 31st day, rats were euthanized for tissue sampling and histological preparation of mandibular bone and subjected for HE staining. The test results based on comparison between the control group and treatment group with independent t-test showed that there were significant differences in osteoblasts number in mandibular bone of wistar rats (p<0.05). Kombucha tea contain epicatechin gallate (ECG) that stimulate osteoblasts differentiation and inhibit induction of Receptor Activator Of Nuclear Factor-κB Ligand (RANKL). Further more, Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) and theaflavin (TF) detoxify molecules of ROS and enhance osteoblastogenesis. This study concluded that administration of Kombucha tea fermented on 14 days make osteoblasts in the mandibular bone of wistar rat more numerous.

Abstract

Introduction: Gingiva is one of the oral mucosa that is most susceptible to injury, one of the factors is surgical procedures such as curettage which will be followed by a natural wound healing process. When a wound occurs, the cells that act as the building blocks of ground substance and the formation of collagen fibers in closing the wound are fibroblast cells. Many people think of earthworms (Lumbricus rubellus) only as animal feed or fish feed, but earthworms have many properties in antiperetic, antispasmodic, antidiuretic, antiasmatic, antihypertensive, antiallergic, anti-inflammatory, and have fibrinolytic activity. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the application of earthworm (Lumbricus rubellus) extract gel on the number of fibroblast cells in the gingival wound healing process of male Wistar (Rattus norvegicus) rats. Materials and Methods : This research method used in vivo laboratory experiments on wistar rats with three treatment groups, namely the group receiving 80% earthworm extract gel, and the control group giving placebo gel (CMC-Na 2%) which was observed on day 3. Results and Discussion: The results showed that there was a significant difference in the mean score of the number of fibroblasts on day 3 in the treatment group and the control group. The treatment group was given an 80% concentration of earthworm (Lumbricus rubellus) extract gel, which was 418.67, while the control group on day 3 was 270.33. Conclusion: It can be concluded that the gel extract of earthworm (Lumbricus rubellus) concentrate 80% is effective in increasing the number of fibroblast cells in the healing process of rat gingival wounds.

Abstract

Introduction: Artificial intelligence (AI) involves the creation of computer systems that imitate human actions, and it is progressively adopted as a supportive tool in aiding clinicians with disease diagnosis and treatment. One prevalent global ailment is periodontitis, which leads to the degradation and loss of the tooth-supporting tissues. The aim of this  review is to evaluate existing literature that delineates the influence of AI on diagnosing and studying the prevalence of this condition. Review: A Pubmed advanced search with narrative review was conducted of the past ten years using several search term such as “artificial Intelligences” and “periodontics”. Thorough searches were conducted on Pubmed in June 2023, encompassing studies where AI functioned as the independent variable for assessing, diagnosing, or treating patients with periodontitis. After eliminating duplicates, a total of 100 articles were recognized for preliminary abstract scrutiny. Of these, 76 documents were excluded, resulting in 24 texts for comprehensive evaluation. Conclusion: The development of artificial intelligence in the field of dentistry requires more systematic reviews and meta-analyses to enhance the knowledge and scope of artificial intelligence applications. AI models for periodontal applications are still under development and in the future, they have the potential to support diagnostic accuracy capability.

Abstract

Background: Gram-negative anaerobic subgingival bacteria play an important role in the initiation and progression of periodontitis. The secondary metabolites contained in Bidara Arab leaves (Ziziphus spina-christi L) have potential to be antibacterial and inhibited the growth of pathogenic bacterial. The purposed of this study to evaluated the antibacterial activity of Bidara Leaves extract against gram-negative anaerobic subgingival bacteria. Method: Experimental laboratories using Mueller hinton agar to determine the antibacterial activity of Bidara leaves extract 40% and 60% against Porphyromonas gingivalis, Aggregatibacter ctinomycetemcomitans, and Fusobacterium nucleatum, with a comparison of the negative control group ethanol 96% and tetracycline as positive control. The production of extracts through maseration techniques and the subsequent phytochemical testing through tube reaction test. Result: The results of phytochemical analysis identified the presence of flavonoids, tannins, saponins, steroids. The inhibition test showed that the Bidara leaves extract exhibited strong inhibition and a concentration of  60% was more effective than 40% against Gram-negative anaerobic subgingival bacteria including Porphyromonas gingivalis, Aggregatibacter ctinomycetemcomitans, and Fusobacterium nucleatum. Conclusion: The Bidara Arab leaves (Ziziphus spina-christi L) extract at concentration 60% was more effective than 40% against gram-negative anaerobic bacteria
