Abstract

ABSTRACT       Sawang Ba’ufishing landing base (PPI) is one of fishery ports type D in South Aceh district with the biggest catchment growth from 2012 to 2016. This study aims to determine the management of landing activities, marketing, development of units catching from 2012 to 2016, the development of volume and production value from 2012 to 2016 , as well as the relative indeks value of marketing quality. The method toward landing activity and marketing of catch and for data analysis using descriptive data analysis. From the result of study that has been done the landing activity of PPI Sawang Ba’ushows the occurrence of obstacles during the landing process that is the lack of dock capacity, harbor pool and the depth of harbor ponds that experience siltation in some parts, so that only ship sized above 30 GT landing on the dock while ship under 30 GT can perform the landing activities in middle of the harbor pool with the help of a boat. The types of fish are landed in PPI Sawang Ba’umore dominant pelagic fish such asindian sad (Decapterus russellii), indian mackerel (Rastrelliger kanagurta), mackarel tuna (Euthynnus affinis), dholpin (Coryphaena hippurus), skipjack tuna (Katsuwonus pelamis), yellow fin tuna (Thunnus albacares), sardine (Sardine hasirm), sardinella (Sardinella longiceps). While the marketing activity is fairly smooth only the marketing procees is done not through the auction system in the places of fish sales so the fisherman’s income is not maximal. The relativeindex value of marketing quality in PPI Sawang Ba’u shows value equal to one which mean that the quality of marketing is some with the quality of marketing at the district level which means that the catch in PPI Sawang Ba’u is not homogeneus.

Abstract

Abstract

Most of the Central Tapanuli Regency area is on the coast, which is part of the Indian Ocean waters and has great potential in the fishing industry, especially marine fisheries. One of the fishing gears widely used by fishermen in Central Tapanuli is the gill net. Although the amount of marine fisheries resources in Central Tapanuli is quite abundant, the catch of gillnet fishermen often fluctuates, so fishing aids are needed to increase catches, one of the efforts made is using LACUBA. This research was conducted from February to April 2024 in Sibolga Bay, Central Tapanuli. This study used a completely randomised design (CRD), with the first 30 metres of gill net treatment with LACUBA and the remaining 30 metres without LACUBA treatment with a total net length of 60 metres. The results showed that the catch of gill nets using LACUBA influenced the catch, the total catch was 16,845 grams, without LACUBA 8,290 grams for 14 times. Gill nets with LACUBA can increase catches compared to without LACUBA, due to the addition of attractants to the net, so that fish including positive phototaxis will be caught in the net, besides that fish that are looking for prey are also caught because they want to prey on their food in the gill net area.

Abstract

Central Tapanuli Regency is a region that has significant potential in the fisheries sector, mainly traditional fisheries, due to its extensive mangrove ecosystem and lengthy coastline. Mangroves are essential for the livelihood of local fishing, as they protect the marine environment and serve as a barrier against coastal erosion. The mangrove ecosystem in Central Tapanuli Regency is experiencing increased pressure due to land conversion, illicit logging, and other human activities, as research surveys indicate. This pressure has a negative impact on the productivity of catches and the welfare of fishermen. This risk is undoubtedly a significant concern; the ecological value of the mangrove ecosystem may be diminished, resulting in a decrease in the catch of local trap fishermen. Consequently, this research is necessary for the local government to reference when developing mangrove management strategies. This investigation aimed to assess the state of the mangrove ecosystem in Tapian Nauli Bay and the correlation between mangrove conditions and the socio-economic status of crab trawl fishermen. The investigation was conducted in Central Tapanuli, specifically in Tapian Nauli Bay. Surveys and interviews with respondents were implemented to accumulate data. Descriptive and correlational analyses are implemented. The results of this study indicated that 60% of the mangroves in Tapian Nauli Bay were in excellent condition, while only 30-40% were in poor condition. The income of bubu fishermen is significantly influenced by the presence of mangroves, as the catches they capture increase, thereby improving their livelihoods.

Abstract

The Polyculture Caulerpa sp and Litopenaeus vannamei can reduce the risk of ecological impacts, increase shrimp growth, survival, production, increase shrimp resistance to disease, and maintain optimal water quality. Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) begins by determining the priority between water quality, growth rate, and harvest yields as more optimal parameters for the success of a polyculture. The measure of success is determined based on the results of expert assessments of polyculture and cultivation that produce more optimal water quality (temperature, pH, brightness, salinity, and dissolved oxygen), growth rates, and harvest yields. The results of the overall AHP analysis, which determined the success of Caulerpa sp and Litopenaeus vannamei polyculture based on expert assessments, showed a good level of consistency. The results show that water quality is a priority parameter in the success of Caulerpa sp and Litopenaeus vannamei polyculture with a weight of 0.597, followed by a growth rate of 0.297 and a harvest yield of 0.106. The analysis of priority water quality indicators for the success of polyculture is dissolved oxygen with a weight of 0.514, followed by pH of 0.246, salinity of 0.119, temperature of 0.079, and brightness of 0.042. Based on the results of experts of the combined weight comparison, polyculture is more optimal than cultivation, with a considerable comparison weight of 0.678 and 0.322, measuring the success of Caulerpa sp and Litopenaeus vannamei polyculture.

Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of combining the low-tide transect method with the use of crab pots to map the spatial distribution of mangrove crabs (Scylla spp.) in the Kalangan River, Central Tapanuli. Mangrove crabs are ecologically and economically significant species in coastal environments, yet limited data exist on their spatial population dynamics. An exploratory survey was conducted over a period of one month across three transect sites using standardised 1×1 meter PVC frames and systematically placed crab pots. Observations included species composition, carapace size, and habitat substrate type. The findings revealed that Scylla olivacea dominated the catch (68%), with the highest density recorded at transect 2 (0.86 individuals/m2), characterised by fine, sandy-muddy substrate and moderate mangrove cover. Transect 1 showed the lowest density (0.63 individuals/m²), likely due to degraded mangrove vegetation and coarse sandy substrate. A positive correlation was observed between tidal depth and catch abundance. The results suggest that this integrated method offers a reliable baseline for assessing mangrove crab populations and can inform sustainable coastal resource management practices.
