Abstract

In Japan, education and culture are highly respected, leading to various systems in education that encourage learning not only focused on teaching and learning itself. Education in Japan emphasizes character development and social attitudes towards different cultures, as well as the formation of cultural identity. One such system is called Shokuiku, which is centered on learning about the origins of food, understanding nutritional values, and developing a positive relationship with food. Within Shokuiku, there is a school lunch program called Kyuushoku. The role of school lunches in the overall educational system opens a deeper dimension to explore how food education and culture interrelate and shape a unique cultural identity. Therefore, this research aims to understand the values contained in the implementation of Kyuushoku culture. The theory used in this research is the Structural Functional Theory according to Talcott Parsons. The methods employed by the author include library research and field studies, sending surveys via Google Forms online to the Japanese community that has participated in Kyuushoku as supporting data sources. The results of this study indicate that Kyuushoku culture carries values such as: Nutrition and Health, Cooperation and Helping Each Other, Togetherness, and Environmental Awareness.

Abstract

Language is a tool for conveying an idea or idea and is also often used by humans to convey information. Therefore, this research was written with the aim of understanding the differences in the synonyms for the adjectives ookii and dekai in Japanese sentences using qualitative descriptive methods. The qualitative descriptive method is a very important method used in writing scientific articles. This method is used to examine a problem so as to find conclusions from the research being studied. The theory used in this research is the contextual meaning theory according to Pateda, (2010:116) which states that contextual meaning is contextual meaning or situational meaning. Situational meaning arises as a result of the relationship between utterance and context. The results of this research show that the adjective ookii can be used to indicate big in the sense of: a country, an animal, a building, a room, the size of a piece of clothing and abstract size. Meanwhile, the adjective "dekai" expresses size in terms of: an object, an animal, abstract size, the size of a person, buildings and cities. The adjective dekai cannot be used to express the size of clothes or rooms while the adjective "ookii" can.

Abstract

Abstract This article analyzes and describes the indirect meaning of the song "Shuhasu" by Sekai no Owari. Sekai no Owari has received many awards for its songs, one of which is the song Shuhasu which was released in 2020. A qualitative method is used to analyze objects through data collection. The resource was from Shuhasu by the band Sekai no Owari. Rifaterre's semiotic theory about the unsustainability expression in poetry is used, and it can be investigated by displacing of meaning, distorting of meaning, and creating of meaning. This song has a meaning about someone who really hopes to be able to meet his lover again. This is evidence by the phrase “Dakara iwa sete yo see you again” Therefore, let me say “See you again.” It is repeated three times in the song, showing an emphasis on the meaning of the lyrics. Furthermore, in the depth, in the phrase of this song there is also the lyrics that contained the same meaning, specifically "Baby sabaku de machiawase shiyou; Baby ashita mo machiawase shiyou". Which means "(Dear, let's meet in an arid land; dear, let's meet tomorrow).” Keywords: Song, Semiotics, Shuhasu, Sekai no Owari Abstrak Artikel ini menganalisis dan mendeskripsikan tentang ketidaklangsungan makna pada lagu “Shuhasu’ karya Sekai no Owari. Sekai no Owari telah banyak mendapatkan penghargaan lewat lagu-lagu yang dibawakan, salah satunya lagu Shuhasu yang dirilis pada tahun 2020. Metode kualitatif dilakukan dalam menganalisis objek melalui pengumpulan data-data, dalam hal ini adalah teks lirik lagu Shuhasu oleh grup musik Sekai no Owari. Abstract

This study investigates the semantic distinctions and contextual usage of three Japanese verbs associated with the concept of development, namely hattatsu, shinpo, and joutatsu, from the perspective of lexical semantics. Although these verbs are often translated into English as “development,” “progress,” or “improvement,” each carries distinct semantic characteristics and is used in different contexts. The data consist of example sentences illustrating various types of development, including physical, cognitive, technological, and skill-related development. The findings indicate that hattatsu primarily denotes natural and gradual development, commonly associated with physical growth, biological processes, or functional advancement. In contrast, shinpo refers to progressive advancement or positive change on a broader scale, particularly in fields such as science, technology, and society, often implying innovation and significant achievement. Meanwhile, joutatsu specifically describes the improvement of an individual’s abilities through continuous practice, learning, and experience, emphasizing a deliberate and effort-driven process. The analysis demonstrates that, despite sharing a general meaning related to development, these verbs differ substantially in their semantic components and contextual distributions. Understanding these distinctions is essential for the accurate and appropriate use of Japanese in academic, educational, and everyday communication. Furthermore, this study contributes to lexical semantic research by clarifying subtle meaning differences among near-synonymous verbs and offers practical insights for Japanese language learners, educators, translators, and lexicographers. The findings may also help reduce the misuse of semantically related expressions and support more precise language instruction and dictionary descriptions.
