Abstract

ABSTRACT     The educational system across the world has immensely been affected due to outbreak of Covid-19. In the absence of traditional classroom teaching, online learning has emerged as closest substitute for offline teaching. Against such a backdrop, it is pertinent to examine the students’ perception about online learning system adopted at the university level during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. This research aims to identify the students’ perceptions on the ease of use and usefulness of online learning based on Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and to analyze the factors influencing students’ perceptions towards English online learning especially in EFL context. For the present study, the descriptive approach with survei method has been adopted and responses from 97 students of English Department of Sam Ratulangi University were collected through online questionnaire and structured interviews. Purposive sampling was used to obtain the sample and ten students were interviewed to seek more information about their experiences during the learning process. The findings of the study reveal students’ positive perception towards online learning and thus acceptance of the new learning system. It has also empirically demonstrated the significance of online learning in the time of Covid-19 crisis. There were several factors that influence the students’ perception, which were the perceiver, the object, and the situation. The participants agreed that online learning has emerged as a new way of enhancing the learning process and may further improve the learning output. Keywords: students’ perception, online learning, English learning, Covid-19

Abstract

Contextual Teaching and Learning Approach (CTL) is one form of approach that can be said to be capable and very suitable to be a model of appropriate learning when applying the form of material in the classroom. Learning the form of CTL is closely related to the context, atmosphere or circumstances that can be interpreted also as learning related to a particular atmosphere. Talking about the atmosphere has to do with the use of the time form also known as tense. A little interesting about the Simple Future Tense that is raised to the core of learning because of this Tense became one of the important parts in the use of Grammar on learning English where we can express or declare actions in the future. This form uses the word 'will' and 'shall' (short form:’ll) plus infinitive. Besides using the form of 'going to' to be able to declare the time to come and the intention of the speaker to do something, for example I'm going to stop smoking '. CTL's role can make learning more effective and even create a fun and non-boring atmosphere, providing experiences that are closely related to the real world of learners and using a variety of learning resources; and therefore the method on CTL can provide understanding, development of science, the develop of knowledge and contextual understanding of learners about the relationship of subjects with what found learners in everyday life. Keywords : CTL, BE GOING TO vs WILL

Abstract

This research focuses on the problems in the use and application of techniques and the process of translating of Nursing and Midwifery students at Polytechnic of Health Manado. The objectives of the research are to describe the technique as well as to analyze the process of translating medical texts that apply within the scope of learning of these students.  This study is descriptive research, of the text analysis type (content analysis), using primary data taken from students. The data of this research were collected purposively from the respondents by referring, talking and taking note techniques. The analysis process uses methods of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions or verification.  After analysis, the results of the study are as follows.  The most popular translation techniques used in the translation of medical texts are borrowing techniques, amplification, established equivalent, adaptations and reductions which appear to be inseparable from the influence of the level of competence and the culture of language use of the translators. The translation process that is applied is analyzed in two groups which are groups that perform ideal stages: analysis, transfer and adjustment by rearranging existing sentences, and groups that do not perform the ideal stage: analysis and adjustment. In general, this happens because of the considerations of the students regarding the purpose of translating the text itself. The stage will be carried out perfectly if there is a demand assessment, and is not perfect if it is only as a reference in making relevant tasks.  Keywords: translation techniques, translation process, medical texts, effects of translation results.

Abstract

Women’s empowerment can be encouraged via English teaching and teaching materials can be utilized to strengthen gender equality and women’s empowerment, particularly for students from coastal areas pursuing higher education at universities. This research aims to determine how English language teaching (ELT) materials in universities can be adapted and incorporated into English instruction from the perspective of female students from coast. The data for this study were acquired using a qualitative technique, which included the distribution of questionnaires and interviews with female students from coastal locations. The information gathered from the questionnaire was mostly demographic. In the meanwhile, interviews were held to collect thoughts from participants on coastal traditions and cultures that might be included into teaching materials. The findings reveal a clear correlation between individuals’ perspectives and their experiences shaped by traditions and cultural heritage of coastal regions. Female participants highlight the depth of coastal culture, it is interaction with the environment, the crucial role of women in preserving traditions, and the desire for representation in university-level English teaching materials. These insights, derived from the experiences and viewpoints of female students in a coastal setting, extend beyond their locale, offering valuable lessons for English learning approaches in diverse coastal communities

Abstract

This article examines the Ten Commandments (Exodus 20:1–17) using the Discourse-Historical Approach (DHA) as developed by Ruth Wodak. The study aims to analyze how divine authority is constructed and legitimized both linguistically and theologically within the text, while also uncovering the social and theological implications of language use in shaping the moral and spiritual order of the faith community. The research employs a qualitative method with a literature-based approach. The findings reveal that the Ten Commandments function not merely as ethical imperatives but also as a discursive instrument for constructing social structures, legitimizing divine authority, and forming the collective identity of the people of Israel. Analysis of topical structure, discursive strategies, and linguistic features within the text confirms the role of language as a vehicle for establishing norms, authority, and the social world of believers. These insights contribute a new dimension to biblical theological studies through the lens of critical linguistic analysis.
