Abstract

This research was aimed at describe whether listen-read-discuss (LRD) strategy be able to improve students? reading comprehension or not. It was a classroom action research. The data collected uses quantitative and qualitative data. Quantitative data was gained from the result of pre-test and post-test from reading test. Meanwhile, qualitative data was gained from the result of observation sheets toward students and teachers activity. The instrument uses were test and observation sheet. The result shows that the strategy be able to improve the students? reading comprehension in report text. The improvement can be seen from the mean score of students from pre-test, post-test one, and post-test two. The mean score of pre-test was 69.5 (35%), there were seven students who passed the minimum passing grade, in the post-test one, 72.2 (60%), twelve students passed the minimum passing grade and in the post-test two, 78.25 (85%),  seventeen students passed the minimum passing grade (KKM).

Abstract

This research was aimed at knowing the effectiveness of using Preview, Question, Read, Reflect, Recite and Review or PQ4R toward Students? Critical Thinking Ability on Reading Comprehension at Second Grade Students at SMAN 1 Batulayar in Academic Year 2017/2018. This research was an experimental research and the design was quasi-experimental nonequivalent design pre-test post-test design. The sample all of students at Second Grade and the total number was 24 students in which consisted of two classes. Where II-A consisted of 12 students and II-B consisted of 12 students. The class divided into two groups, namely experimental group and Control group. The data was collected by using pre-test and pos-test. The instrument of this research used was reading test inform of multiple choice test. The technique that used to analysis the data was t-test formula. From the data analysis, it found that the result of t-test (1.41) was lower than t-table (1.714). The mean score of experimental group in post-test was (19.16) and the mean score of pre-test was (7.08). Based on the result of the research, it can be concluded that the used of PQ4R has not effective toward Students? Critical Thinking Ability on Reading Comprehension at Second Grade Students of SMAN 1 Batu Layar in Academic Year 2018/2019.

Abstract

Establishing students? pronunciation needs a promising instructional method. One of the teachers? efforts to develop students? pronunciation is applying the shadowing technique. The shadowing technique was able to facilitate students to practice pronunciation skills. This study was categorized with a quasi-experimental study with the non-equivalent control group design. The samples were taken randomly using a purposive random sampling. The samples consist of 70 students that were divided into two classes, namely the experimental and control classes. The data were collected through interview, multiple-choice test, and record. Here it used descriptive and T-test analysis to find the ways they learned and the results. Finally, the researchers considered that shadowing technique is very good to be applied by the teachers and lecturers in class. The most surprising aspect of the findings are; 1) the students were motivated as long as teaching and learning conducted; 2) their response mostly positive to the way they learned; 3) and they got significant change on their pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary. This change can be seen from their ability in expressing their ideas and 4) inferential statistic results; t-test was 4.077 and t-table was 2.021 with degree of freedom (df) 44 and the level of significance (0.05) in 95%.

Abstract

The research entitled ?Error analysis in using ?going to? and? will? in sentences; at Ma NW Mispalah  Central Lombok in academic year 2013/2014? is aimed to find out the errors that students make in using going to and will in sentences.  The sample of this research is all of the students at MA NW Mispalah Central Lombok that consists of one class with the total 51 students. Collecting the data of the study, the researcher uses grammar test as the main instrument which was distributed to the whole samples. The four steps; identification, classification, description and explanation were used to analyzed the data in this study. The conclusion of the study concluded that the errors that students made are categorized into omissions errors, addition errors and miss-formation errors. Students omitted the ?going to? and ?will?, copulas and auxiliaries which must appear in the well-formed English sentences, they added going to and will and copulas which must not appear in the well-formed English sentences, they miss-formation the going to and will, copulas and auxiliaries by using the wrong forms of morphemes or structures, they also made the incorrect placement of verbs, adverbs and objects or complements of the sentences. The total percentage of miss-formation error categories, the writer found that the most likely committed by the students is miss-formation of going to and will. From 7, 2 % of miss-formation categories, about 2, 9 % are miss-formation of  ?going to? and ?will?.

Abstract

This research aims to find out the effectiveness of using ?Word Map? Technique in teaching vocabulary at third grades students of IKIP Mataram in academic year 2015/2016??. This was a quasi experimental research. The sample of this research was two classes, they were A class and B class in which consist of 39 students. It takes by using cluster random sampling. The sample of the research divided into two groups namely experimental group and control group. Experimental group was taught by Word Map Technique and control group was taught by Three Phase Technique. The design of the research as follow: Pre-test, Treatment, and Posttest.The instrument was multiple choices test consist of 25 items for right answers was  4 for each item. Then, for all right answer ranged 100 for the highest and for the lowest was 0. Based on the data analysis it was found that t-test score was 7.743 and t-table was 1.668. The result showed that the value of t-test was highest then the value of t-table. So, it conclude that there was significant effect of Word Map Technique in teaching vocabulary at third grades students of IKIP Mataram in academic year 2015/2016.

Abstract

This research was aimed to find out the significant effect of Inquiry-Based Learning on students? critical thinking in reading at third-semester students of  Faculty of Education, and Education of Science Qamarul Huda University, Bagu, Central Lombok in academic year 2019/2020. This research was experimental research that categorized by pre-experimental One Group Pretest-Posttest design. The population of this research was at third-semester students of  Faculty of Education, and Education of Science Qamarul Huda University, Bagu, Central Lombok which consisted of 18 students and using surfeited sampling. The instrument of collecting the data was used multiple-choices and questionnaires. In this research, the writer rendered treatment and prepared a test in the form of multiple-choices to look the effect of Inquiry-Based Learning and questionnaires for look the critical thinking. The result of data analysis indicated at third-semester students of Faculty of Education, and Education of Science Qamarul Huda University, Bagu, Central Lombok attained high score on post-test whom were treated by Inquiry-Based Learning. It means that Inquiry-Based Learning gave a significant effect on critical thinking of students in reading. It was proven by the lowest and highest in pre-test score was 30 and 50 and post-test was 35 and 65. Then, the result of hypothesis testing was the alternative hypothesis accepted. It was provable that t-test was higher than t-table, which was the score of t-test was 3.81 and t-table in df 17 with significant 0.05 was 1.753.

Abstract

Pelaksanaan kegiatan pelatihan ini bertujuan untuk: (1)meningkatkan kreativitas dan produktivitas Guru Bahasa Inggris SMP dalam menyusun need analysis, assessment tool dan instruksi pengajaran yang bervariasi yang kemudian disusun menjadi sebuah modul berbasis InTASC  (InTASC Standard-Based Module) dimana modul ini berisi 10 standard yang memuat seluruh langkah pengajaran dan refleksi yang bisa dilakukan guru sehingga proses belajar mengajar akan berjalan dengan efektif dan menyenangkan, apa yang diajarkan guru akan mudah dimengerti oleh siswa dan proses belajar mereka tidak hanya terhenti didalam kelas tetapi juga bisa dilakukan diluar kelas. (2) Dengan begitu, siswa nantinya akan mampu berkomunikasi menggunakan Bahasa Inggris dengan lancar dan bisa menggunakannya dalam mendapatkan pekerjaan khususnya dunia pariwisata dimana mereka mampu memberikan pelayanan yang jauh lebih baik yaitu mampu berkomunikasi dengan para wisatawan secara lancar. (3) Semakin baiknya pelayanan yang diberikan, semakin banyak pula wisatawan yang datang dimana hal ini tentunya akan membuaka lapangan pekerjaan yang lebih banyak dan menjadikan Pariwisata Lombok Barat menjadi destinasi wisata yang mampu bersaing di kancah Internasional. Dalam pelaksanaan pelatihan ini, tim terlebih dahulu berkoordinasi dan memberikan pengenalan InTASC standard kepada kepala Sekolah, ketua MGMP, dan peserta, Setelah itu tim memberikan pelatihan 10 standard InTASC yang berisi need analysis, assessment tool dan instruksi pengajaran yang bervariasi yang akhirnya disusun menjadi sebuah modul berbasis InTASC yang digunakan dalam pengajaran Bahasa Inggris selanjutnya, sehingga manfaat pelatihan ini bisa dirasakan sampai seterusnya. Berdasarkan hasil pelatihan dan pendampingan dapat disimpulkan bahwa pihak sekolah sangat mendukung kegiatan pelatihan tersebut dan antusiasme peserta dapat terukur dari modul berbasis InTASC yang diselesaikan sebagai buku pendamping kurikulum yang sedang berlaku.

Abstract

Genders in Speed Reading; A Comparative Study at the Forth Semester Students in Faculty of Culture, Management, and Business, Language Education, This study aimed to compare male and female students’ ability in speed reading. The population of this study were the forth semester students at Faculty of Culture, Management, and Business, Language Education Mandalika University of Education in academic year 2020/2021. There were 60 students as the sample of the study in which divided into class IVA for male consisted of 30 students and class IVB for female consisted of 30 students. Data was collected by using timed reading. The data were analyzed and interpreted statistically by using a comparative method. They study found that both students ability in speed reading male and female, was bad. They are very slow readers. The data showed 11 out of 30 male students (37%) are categorized to be low readers and-19 out of 30 male students (63%) was categorized as very slow readers. Similarly 8 out of 30 female students (27%) were categorized as low readers and 22 out of 30 female students (73%) are categorized as very slow readers. There were no significant differences between genders in speed reading. The study shows the t-test value 0.298 was lower than t-table values of 2.000 at confidence level 95% and 2.660 at confidence level 99%.

Abstract

This study is aimed to find out the students’ ability in using relative pronouns at the Second Grade Students of MTs. Darrul Muhibbin Praya. The samples of this study were classes II-A and II-B consisted of 60 students where each class consist of 30 students. The sample on this study was treated in answering the test grammar test about relative pronouns. The in the form of multiple choice consisted of 50 items and for each item by 2 times. Their ability was proving by finding out the percentage of their test. This particular inference were bravely taken under the “d”(total amount) identification which indicates that the students have ability in using relative pronouns, where “d” valued was 70%, this percentage was significance since obtained from the score 3656 that divided from 60 students. This show that the second grade students of MTs. Darrul Muhibbin Praya were able in using relative pronouns such as (who, whom, whose, which and that)

Abstract

This research was aimed to answer research question “Is there any effect of Drill Technique towards students’ vocabulary mastery in learning English?” The kind of this research was an experimental research in which divided into two groups were treated with differently which experimental group was by using drill group and second control group was using three phases.  The sample of this research were all of first grade students at SMAN 1 Batulayar consisted of 75 students. This proved by figure of means group, the standard deviation and value of t-test was seen that the mean score of experimental group was higher than the mean score of control group (49.7 for the experimental and 4.47 for the control group). Based on statistical analysis using t-test showed that t-table 3.57 > 2.00 t-table at confidence level 0.05 % (95%) and 3.57 > 2.66 t-table at confidence level 0.01% (90%). Finally, it concludes that the use of Drill Technique has positive effect toward students’ vocabulary mastery in learning English at the first year students of SMAN 1 Batulayar in academic year 2021/2022.
