Abstract

Abstract In spite of the fact that mental health problems are increasingly prevalent among college students, they are often disinclination to seek help from formal psychological services. There is a lack of empirical studies focusing specifically on college students’ barriers to seeking psychological help in Indonesia. This study aims to identify the factors that prevent college students from seeking psychological help at formal psychology service providers. Participants in this study were 205 college students who were obtained using purposive sampling techniques. College students are given a Willingness to Seek Professional Counseling scale at Outside the University (WSPCO) to identify factors that prevent them from seeking psychological help. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The results of this study showed that there were three main factors that make students reluctant to seek psychological help from providers such as the students who do not know which counseling services are good, students have family or friends who can help, and students feel that the problem is still not serious. By knowing these barriers, formal psychological services need to add information about the services, especially the place, forms of services, and professional that capable of mental health problems to meet the public’s understanding of formal psychological services. Abstract

Abstract. Cognitive flexibility is an important mental ability to facilitate cognitive restructured learning. This ability can be used as a benchmark for an individual's adaptive function in dealing with life changes. This study aims to examine the psychometric properties of the Cognitive Flexibility Inventory (CFI) developed by Dennis and Vander Wal (2010), which was adapted into Indonesian language. The CFI measuring instrument consists of 20 items with 2 factors, namely the Alternatives and Control factors. Tests were carried out using Exploratory Factor Analysis and Confirmatory Factor Analysis. This study involved 1250 early adult individuals in Indonesia (mean age=24.71 years) who were divided into two groups of samples randomly for exploratory analysis (n=300) and confirmatory analysis (n=950). The results of the analysis show that the two-factors structure of the 15 CFI items in the Indonesian version has psychometric properties that are acceptable fit. These results shows that the Indonesian version of CFI can be used for research or assessment tool for various cognitive therapies. For future research it is recommended to conduct a concurrent validity testing for the Indonesian version of CFI.Keywords: cognitive flexibility inventory Indonesian version; confirmatory factor analysis; exploratory factor analysis.

Abstract

The rise of online teaching is currently being carried out due to a pandemic which results in everyone having to limit interactions, this is aimed at reducing transmission of the coronavirus. Likewise, the existence of online teaching has resulted in the teaching staff, especially playgroup teachers having difficulty making a bonding with their students. They feel limited space and interaction between teachers and students. The existence of this, the researcher conducted a training to increase bonding between teachers and students by providing training in the form of “101 Online Class Strategies” in this training there were 5 teachers involved in this activity. There are 4 female teacher’s and 1 male teacher with the mean pre-test 111.00 and post-test of 115.40. Keywords: Training, Playgroup, Bounding, Teacher, Pandemic

Abstract

The developmental crisis in early adulthood, often referred to as the Quarter-Life Crisis, has garnered significant attention in recent years. Although widely discussed in mass media and popular writings, there is a lack of a well-established psychological scale to measure this crisis in Indonesia. This study aims to examine the psychometric properties of the Indonesian adaptation of the Developmental Crisis Questionnaire (DCQ-12) developed by Petrov et al. (2022) for assessing early adulthood developmental crises. The DCQ-12 instrument consists of twelve statements divided into three factors: Disconnection and Distress, Lack of Clarity and Control, and Transition and Turning Point. Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) are used in the test. This research involves 300 Indonesian early adult participants (mean age = 31.81 years, SD = 6.72, 90% female) for EFA testing and 248 participants (mean age = 25.2 years, SD = 5.32, 78.2% female) for CFA testing. The results indicate that the three-factor structure of the ten items of the Indonesian version of the DCQ has psychometric properties classified as "acceptable fit," making it suitable for research on developmental crises in early adult individuals. Future research should explore the psychometric properties of this instrument in other population groups, such as middle-aged and older adults, and consider implications for interventions or support programs

Abstract

The Brief Coping Orientation to Problem Experienced (COPE) scale is widely used for measuring coping strategies. However, concerns persist regarding the dimensions captured by the scale and the accuracy of item representation. This study examined the relevance of adapted Brief COPE items using discriminant content validity (DCV). A panel of experts (n = 15) assessed the extent to which the items corresponded to their intended dimensions. Intraclass correlation (ICC) estimates ranged from 0.640 to 0.828, indicating agreement among experts. A one-sample t-test evaluated DCV, revealing that 21 out of 28 items distinctly and exclusively measured intended dimensions, confirming their discriminant content validity. Seven items were excluded: three did not measure coping strategies (non-dimension), and four measured them in different dimensions (wrong-dimension). The discriminant content-validated Brief COPE scale improves coping assessment, benefiting psychological therapies and providing researchers with refined measures for each coping strategy dimension, addressing dimensional concerns.

Abstract

The field of psychological well-being is extensively studied globally, encompassing positive relationships as a notable facet. Presently, there is a discourse emphasizing the need for research on relationships to encompass both positive and negative aspects, along with their effects on an individual’s overall well-being. The study aimed to identify the impacts of relationship qualities of three sources (parental, friendship, and romantic relationships) on college students’ psychological well-being. The 251 college students in Surabaya (Indonesia) and 139 college students in Hangzhou (China), selected using purposive sampling technique, were involved in this research. All participants have at least three social networks/sources of relationship, i.e., parents, best friends, and romantic partners. The network of relationships inventory -relationship quality version (NRI-RQV) was given to identify the qualities of relationship participants have from the three sources. Participants’ psychological well-being was observed using the PERMA-Profiler. Data was analyzed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). In both countries, students highlight that the quality of the relationship between parents and college students has the most substantial influence on their psychological well-being, with parental approval being one of the key components. This finding provides valuable insights for developing an effective support system for college students.
