Abstract

AbstractThis research examined the effectiveness of applying Constructive Controversy method in terms of gaining student’s critical thinking, thus their argumentative writing become solid. By using quasi-experimental design, this research took 20 students as respondents from both two classes, V-A as experiment class and V-B as control class. The scores of pre-test and post-test gathered from both classes are tested first through pre-requisites analysis; Normality of Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Homogeneity of Fisher. Then, the result of t-test showed that the t-observed was 2.88, and t-table was 2.02 on level of significance 0.05 with degree of freedom (df = n + n – 2) was 38. Regarding to the calculation, to > tt which means Ho hypothesis is rejected meanwhile Hi hypothesis is accepted. Therefore, Constructive Controversy method is effective to help students in gaining their critical thinking known from their arguments when writing argumentative essay.     Keywords: Writing, Argumentative Essay, Constructive Controversy, Critical Thinking

Abstract

This research studied the English pre-service teachers’ knowledge about linguistics in one of private university in Indonesia. By using the open-ended and close-ended questioners as it is fit with quantitative study, this research attempted to figure out the capacity of the English pre-service teachers in dealing with linguistics theory or understanding that is essential for them in giving full description or portrayal about English linguistics for teaching pupils at school. This research involved 100 respondents within 2 main focuses on micro-linguistics studies; 1) the morphology theory and understanding, 2) the phonology theory and understanding. The result showed there was a fact that English pre-service teachers had limit or paucity of linguistics understanding that can support them with better explanation and knowledge for teaching their future pupils.

Abstract

Kegiatan Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat (PKM) ini bermitra dengan Sekolah Dasar Negeri Susukan 06 dan 07 Jakarta Timur. Tujuan pengabdian ini adalah untuk memberikan pelatihan pada guru-guru SDN Susukan 06 dan 07 mengenai pembelajaran digital infografis agar dapat membantu mereka dalam proses pembelajaran jarak jauh School from Home (SFH) yang sudah ditetapkan oleh pemerintah pada tahun ini. Banyak guru yang belum terampil membuat dan menggunakan berbagai aplikasi digital untuk membuat media pembelajaran digital untuk membantu proses pembelajaran jarak jauh atau School from Home (SFH), dan mereka kurang memiliki pengetahuan tentang media pembelajaran digital; salah satunya infografis. Setelah mengikuti pelatihan media pembelajaran digital khususnya media infografis, para guru sudah mampu membuat dan mendisain media infografis untuk berbagai mata pelajaran, seperti: olah raga, biologi, IPA dan lain-lain. Hal ini dibuktikan dengan hasil karya para peserta pelatihan yang sangat baik. Harapannya para guru-guru yang sudah terlatih akan mampu meningkatkan kualitas pembelajaran di sekolah. Mereka mampu memilih dan merancang serta memanfaatkan aplikasi digital yang sesuai dalam proses pembelajaran jarak jauh School from Home (SFH) sehingga guru bisa menyajikan materi yang menarik dan berkualitas sehingga dapat memacu semangat dan kreativitas peserta didik.Kata Kunci: Digital learning; School from home; Learning media

Abstract

Pelatihan ini bertujuan meningkatkan kompetensi ICT guru-guru di SMPN 1 Cileungsi, Bogor dalam koridor pembuatan media ajar digital Prezi virtual presentation software bagi guru-guru disana. Seperti diketahui bersama, proses pengajaran dan pembelajaran saat ini dilakukan dengan sistem daring (online) jarak jauh dimana guru dituntut untuk mampu menyediakan bukan hanya konten materi ajar yang banyak namun juga mampu memanfaatkan media-media ajar digital yang kekinian atau mampu menciptakan media ajar digital yang menarik dan up to date bagi peserta didik atau murid dikelas. Prezi virtual presentation software ini adalah salah satu media atau software pengajaran yang unggul dalam banyak hal. Maka, pelatihan ini diadakan untuk sebagai bentuk pengabdian tim dosen FKIP UHAMKA bagi kemajuan SDM disana. Pelatihan ini berlangsung selama 2 kali pertemuan dengan durasi 2-3 jam melalui daring zoom. Total peserta kegiatan berjumlah 13 guru dari beberapa bidang studi seperti Bahasa Inggris, Matematika, Olahraga, Biologi, Seni, PKN, dan lain-lain. Pelatihan ini turut menyebar kuesioner awal dan akhir sebagai ukuran mengetahui dampak atau perubahan dari kegiatan yang akan dilakukan. Hasil pelatihan pembuatan media ajar digitial Prezi menunjukan bahwa secara keseluruhan guru merespon positif (setuju dan sangat setuju) bahwa Prezi unggul dalam tampilan, bentuk, desain, kemudahaan penggunaan, menarik, dll. Maka, dapat ditarik kesimpulan akhir, Pelatihan Pembuatan Media Ajar Digital (Prezi Virtual Presentation Software) Bagi Guru-Guru di SMPN 1 Cileungsi, Bogor ini sukses memberikan dampak dan perubahan positif bagi Mitra guru disana.Kata Kunci: Media ajar digital; Pelatihan guru; Prezi software

Abstract

Abstrak: Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat dengan judul “Pelatihan English For Hospitality Bagi Staff Camp Hulu Cai Resort Ciawi Bogor” adalah suatu proses dan tindakan untuk melatih para staff agar fasihberkomunikasi dalam bahasa Inggris. Tujuannya adalah untuk meningkatkan kualitas SDM dalam menghadapi era digitalisasi yang mengharuskan setiap pekerja tidak canggung atau bahkan tidak bisa berkomunikasi dalam bahasa Inggris. Pelatihan adalah sebuah proses untuk meningkatkan kompetensi para pekerja. Dengan kata lain pelatihan ini adalah proses untuk membantu peserta agar dapat belajar dengan baik. Sedangkan English for Hospitality adalah bahasa Inggris yang digunakan dalam dunia perhotelan merupakan hal yang wajib dikuasai oleh para karyawan hotel, terutama mereka yang sering kali berkomunikasi dengan tamu hotel. Mulai dari door man, resepsionis, room service, chef, marketing staff, customer service, dan beberapa level manajer. Mengingat, dunia semakin global dan banyaknya turis asing berkunjung ke lokasi mitra maka kemampuan bahasa Inggris di dunia perhotelan begitu di perlukan sebagai bahasa komunikasi universal dengan para tamu hotel yang berasal dari berbagai negara. Metode pelaksanaan pelatihan ini diawali dengan pemaparan materi tentang English for Hospitality dan language function yang dibutuhkan dalam dunia perhotelan. Kemudian, kegiatan dilanjutkan dengan praktek penggunaan dan Bahasa Inggris oleh masing-masing peserta atau staf. Pertama berisi pemaparan materi oleh narasumber yaitu tentang English for Hospitality secara umum. Kemudian, sesi kedua dilanjutkan dengan berlatih menggunakan language function Bahasa Inggris yang bermanfaat dalam konteks komunikasi perhotelan. Terakhir, sesi ketiga dilanjutkan dengan berlatih menggunakan berbagai perangkat teknologi yang dapat membantu mempercepat komunikasi Bahasa Inggris peserta atau staf khususnya terkait komunikasi perhotelan.Kata Kunci: English for Hospitality; kompetens stafi; language function; penggunaan teknologiAbstract: This community service activity entitled "English For Hospitality Training for Camp Hulu Cai Resort Ciawi Bogor Staff" is a process and action to train staff to communicate fluently in English. The goal is to improve human resources quality in facing the digitalization era that requires every worker not to be awkward or even unable to communicate in English. Training is a process to improve the competence of workers. In other words, this training is a process to help participants learn well. Meanwhile, English for Hospitality is English used in the world of hospitality, which must be mastered by hotel employees, especially those who often communicate with hotel guests. Starting from the door man, receptionist, room service, chef, marketing staff, customer service, and several levels of managers. Given that the world is increasingly global and many foreign tourists visit partner locations, English skills in the hospitality world are needed as a universal language of communication. with hotel guests who come from various countries. The method of implementing this training begins with the presentation of material on English for Hospitality and language functions needed in the world of hospitality. Then, the activity continued with the practice of using English by each participant or staff. The first contains material presentation by the resource person, namely about English for Hospitality in general. Then, the second session continued with practicing using the English language function which is useful in the context of hospitality communication. Finally, the third session continued with practicing using various technological devices that can help speed up the participants' or staff's English communication, especially related to hospitality communication.Keywords: English for Hospitality; staff competence; language function; staff; technology usage

Abstract

The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, such as machine translation tools, has gained traction in language education, offering potential benefits while raising concerns. This mixed-methods study investigates the perceptions and experiences of Indonesian students learning English as a Foreign Language (EFL) regarding the use of DeepL Machine Translation. With advancements in AI and increasing reliance on translation tools, understanding users' perspectives is crucial for effective integration. The research aims to explore EFL students' perceptions of DeepL's utilization, advantages, and disadvantages through a convergent mixed-methods design. Data were collected from 293 participants across various educational levels through a closed-ended questionnaire and open-ended responses. Quantitative analysis revealed a high level of agreement towards DeepL's utilization, particularly for translating written works. Perceived advantages included translation accuracy, time-saving capabilities, and potential for language skill improvement. However, concerns regarding over-reliance and dependency were also expressed. Qualitative insights corroborated the quantitative findings, highlighting DeepL's strengths in context matching, word choice suggestions, and user-friendly features. These findings contribute to the discourse on AI integration in language education, emphasizing the importance of understanding user perceptions and developing balanced implementation strategies. The study concludes with recommendations for educators and curriculum designers to leverage machine translation tools effectively while mitigating potential drawbacks, fostering independent language learning and responsible technology use.

Abstract

Book is a vital media in EFL Learning process. Life Today book is an English book that becomes one of the primary reading references. However, this book likely has not been widely used by teachers in Indonesia because it is still new. It is interesting to study more on this based on the teachers who have used it. This study examines the reading materials in the English Life Today book of 12 grade in Senior High School level based on EFL Teachers’ view. This research applied mix-method with the use of close-ended and open-ended questionnaires to obtain the opinions of 50 English teachers in Jakarta and some vicinities areas. After gathering the data, the researchers tabulated, analyzed, and interpreted it systematically. The findings showed that 50 EFL teachers dominantly gave positive views towards reading materials in the English Life Today book based on its reading contents aspect, language use, pre-and post-reading, and presentation aspects. The EFL teachers also gave constructive suggestion including the more variation topics need to be added, the extra thesaurus also need to be provided, and the separated reading texts needs to be identified to differentiate low and high students’ level.

Abstract

Abstrak: Tujuan dari pelatihan ini adalah untuk memberikan pengetahuan terbaru serta meningkatkan kemampuan teknologi para instruktur (Dosen, Guru, dan Tendik) Program Profesi Guru (PPG) Fakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan Universitas Muhammadiyah Prof. DR. HAMKA, Jakarta, di bidang pembuatan media pembelajaran digital berbasis kecerdasan buatan (AI) text-to-video generator. Saat ini, proses belajar mengajar modern harus dilakukan dengan melibatkan teknologi yang mengharuskan dosen atau guru menggunakan media digital. Pesatnya perkembangan teknologi saat ini telah sampai pada titik di mana perangkat lunak atau website didukung oleh teknologi kecerdasan buatan (AI). Salah satu perangkat lunak atau laman berbasis teknologi AI yang dapat menjadi pilihan bagi para guru atau dosen untuk mengembangkan media pembelajaran dalam bentuk video adalah AI text-to-video generator. AI text-to-video generator adalah alat yang memungkinkan guru atau dosen untuk membuat video profesional dari teks dengan bantuan AI, seperti Pictory ai dan Synthesia oi. Oleh karena itu, tim dosen FKIP UHAMKA merasa perlu untuk melakukan pelatihan dengan mempromosikan AI text-to-video generator ini sebagai salah satu alternatif pembuatan media pembelajaran video yang sesuai dengan kebutuhan pembelajaran siswa. Pelatihan ini berbentuk workshop dan dilaksanakan dalam 2 kali pertemuan dengan durasi 8 jam (4 sesi) dan total waktu 16 jam. Diikuti oleh 20-30 peserta yang dikategorikan sebagai dosen, guru, dan tenaga kependidikan dari beberapa bidang studi seperti Bahasa Indonesia, Bahasa Jepang, Bahasa Inggris, Matematika, Fisika, Biologi, Pendidikan Dasar, Pendidikan Anak Usia Dini, Bimbingan dan Konseling, Ekonomi, Sejarah, dan Geografi. Di awal dan akhir pelatihan ini, tim membagikan kuesioner pra-kuesioner dan pasca-kuesioner sebagai data faktual untuk mengetahui tanggapan dan pandangan para peserta tentang pelatihan ini. Hasil pelatihan menunjukan respon positif peserta serta bertambahnya kemampuan teknologi peserta khususnya dalam membuat media pembelajaran digital berbasis kecerdasan buatan (AI) text-to-video generator menggunakan Pictory ai dan Synthesia oi.   Kata Kunci: Media Pembelajaran Digital; Artificial Intelligence (AI); Text-to-Video Generator; Pictory ai; Synthesia io; Pelatihan Dosen, Guru, Tendik; PPG   Abstract: The objective of this training is to provide new knowledge and to increase the technology proficiency of the instructors (Lecturers, Teachers, Education Staffs) of the Teachers Professional Program (PPG), Faculty of Teachers Training and Education, University of Muhammadiyah Prof. DR. HAMKA, Jakarta, in the area of creating digital learning media based on artificial intelligence (AI) text-to-video generator. Recently, the modern teaching and learning process must be conducted through technology involvement, which requires lecturers or teachers to use digital media. The rapid growth of technology today is reaching a point where software or website are supported by artificial intelligence (AI) technology. One software or website based on AI technology that can be an option for teachers or lecturers to develop learning media in the form of videos is the AI text-to-video generator. An AI text-to-video generator is a tool that allows teachers or lecturers to create professional videos from text with the help of AI, such as Pictory ai and Synthesia oi. Therefore, the UHAMKA FKIP lecturer team felt necessary to conduct training by promoting this AI text-to-video generator as an alternative to creating video learning media that is suitable for student learning needs. This training was in a workshop format, and it was conducted in 2 meetings within 8 hours (4 sessions) and a total of 16 hours. 20-30 participants were joined who were categorized as lecturers, teachers, and education staff from several fields of study such as Indonesia Language, Japan Language, English, Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Primary Education, Early Childhood, Guidance and Counselling, Economics, History, and Geography. At the beginning and the end of the training, the team distributed pre-questionnaires and post-questionnaires as factual data to know the responses and opinions of the participants about this training. Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) in the field of education has many varieties such as Chat GPT, Consesus, Duolingo, DeepL Translate, QuillBot, Gemini, and many others. The use of artificial intelligence for the digital native generation is not complicated. This generation was born in the digital era with rapid technological advances. Therefore, it is expected that with their abilities, they can easily understand the use of AI. This service provides a deep understanding of how to use and write it in scientific writing to several students of SMAN 1 Karangreja who are trainees. A total of 20 students representing class X to class XII became trainees. In addition, this service also instilled how the impact of AI should be avoided. This service was carried out for two days using the lecture method as a form of interaction with the trainees. The trainees seemed enthusiastic as seen from the many questions they asked. In addition, they can write sentences with the help of AI in a sequential, systematic manner and adopt from the many references provided by AI. Training on the use and impact of AI should be increasingly socialized to schools in the regions. However, it is necessary to pay attention to infrastructure barriers in the regions.
