Abstract

Since COVID-19 case is increasing rapidly, many students and teachers must do the teaching and learning process online. Google Classroom has been the most used online learning media chosen by teachers and students during the pandemic. This study aimed to explore how psycholinguistic factors and students' perceptions of the Google Classroom application impacted their remote learning experiences amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. This research applied mixed-method in order to answer the research questions. For collecting the data, the researcher utilized the close-ended questionnaire carrying 6 indicators about the student's perceptions of Google Classroom, which were then analyzed quantitatively and used the interview analyzed qualitatively. The questionnaires were given to 33 students as participants. Google Classroom did help the students receive the course materials well and make students become more productive, disciplined, responsible and independent throughout the learning process during the pandemic. The highest percentages of ease of learning Google Classroom (84.85%), and ease of accessing Google Classroom (83.35%), whilst perceived usefulness of Google Classroom (76.08%) and students’ satisfaction with Google Classroom (74.28%) were in the good category.

Abstract

The potential cognitive benefits associated with bilingualism have garnered substantial attention in recent years. The present meta-analysis aimed to synthesize and critically evaluate the existing evidence regarding the impact of bilingualism on executive function (EF), a set of cognitive processes vital for goal-directed behavior. A comprehensive literature search was conducted across multiple databases, encompassing studies published between 2018 and 2024. Studies were included if they employed a quantitative design, compared bilingual and monolingual individuals on at least one measure of EF, and reported sufficient statistical data for effect size calculation. A total of 32 studies met the inclusion criteria, yielding a combined sample size of 3,875 participants. The overall meta-analysis revealed a small but significant positive effect of bilingualism on EF (Hedges' g = 0.18, 95% CI [0.12, 0.24], p < 0.001). Moderator analyses indicated that the effect was moderated by the type of EF assessed, with stronger effects observed for inhibitory control and cognitive flexibility than for working memory. In conclusion, our study suggests that bilingualism is associated with enhanced EF. The magnitude of the effect varies across different EF components, highlighting the need for further research to elucidate the specific mechanisms underlying the bilingual advantage in cognitive control.

Abstract

This study explores the impact of psycholinguistic strategies on vocabulary retention among United Kingdom language learners. Using the pretest-posttest experimental method, 60 participants with intermediate levels of United Kingdom language proficiency were divided into two groups: experimental and control. The experimental group received instruction using psycholinguistic strategies such as semantic maps, contextual learning, and spaced repetition, while the control group used traditional memorization methods. The results showed that the experimental group experienced a significant improvement in vocabulary retention, both immediately after the intervention and one month later. Statistical analysis confirmed that psycholinguistic strategies are more effective than traditional methods in improving long-term retention. In addition, qualitative data showed that participants in the experimental group felt more engaged and understood vocabulary better. This study concludes that psycholinguistic strategies can improve the effectiveness of vocabulary teaching by supporting natural cognitive processes in language learning. These findings provide important insights for United Kingdom educators to integrate psycholinguistic approaches in vocabulary teaching to achieve better learning outcomes

Abstract

The use of AI technology in education has grown rapidly in recent years. English language education in Indonesia, especially at the primary school level, has become one of the important focuses in the national curriculum. The main goal of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of using AI in English language learning. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study design to explore the implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) technology in English learning at Batu Ampar 02 Elementary School, East Jakarta. The results of this study show that the implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) technology in English learning has a very positive impact on students' English language skills. Data obtained through interviews, observations, and document analysis show that AI technology has succeeded in increasing students' confidence in speaking English. More than 70% of students who were initially reluctant to speak now feel more confident, and 75% of students report feeling more comfortable speaking in front of their peers after using an AI-based app that allows speaking practice with instant feedback. This proves that AI technology can overcome the social and psychological barriers that students often face in learning English, especially in speaking skills. In addition, students' motivation to learn has also increased significantly. About 85% of students revealed that they felt more motivated to learn English after using an AI application that integrates educational games and challenge-based exercises.
