Abstract

Role playing merupakan pementasan drama yang sangat sederhana. Peran diambil dari kehidupan sehari-hari (bukan imajinatif). Role playing merupakan langkah awal dalam pengajaran drama. Dari role playing dapat dicapai aspek perasaan, sikap, nilai, persepsi, keterampilan pemecahan masalah, dan pemahaman terhadap pokok permasalahan. Para murid berpartisipasi sebagai pemain dengan peran tertentu atau sebagai pengamat bergantung dari tujuan-tujuan dari penerapan metode  “role playing is the acting of roles decided upon in advanced, for such purpose as recreating historical scenes of the past, possible event of the future, significant current events, or imaginary situations at any place or time”. Dapat diartikan bahwa bermain peran adalah memerankan dari suatu keputusan peraturan yang teratur, untuk tujuan seperti menciptakan kembali adegan sejarah dari peristiwa masa lalu, memungkinkan peristiwa yang akan datang, peristiwa nyata yang signifikan, atau situasi imajiner di setiap tempat atau waktu.

Abstract

This need analysis research aimed to know the source of information that students’ need in the necessities, lacks and wants related to the students’ vocational area.  This study was a qualitative research and the data collected by the primary data of questionnaire to 39 students, teacher interview and the secondary data was the documentation of syllabus. According to Target Situational Analysis (TSA) of students needs in Hospitality Industry Department of Muhammadiyah Vocational High School 3 of Palembang, synchronized with interview and documentation, the students questionnaire revealed the “Necessities” were 81.5% or slightly high to upgrading their skills, not only for the requirement at school. Students “Lacks” in learning English for Specifics Purpose were 61.45% because the students lack of vocabulary. And the potential skills that students need according the “wants” in learning English shows that the most wanted skill is, 1) Speaking (80.95%), 2) Listening (80.8%), 3) Reading (75.9%) and lastly, 4) Writing (75%).   Related to the students needs, the students must practice more and aware with the English as the future needs in academic, career and personal interest to become capable and proficient as the communicative skills. This research was tried to discover the information about the potential needs on English for Specifics Purposes for vocational needs.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was that students could communicate fluently using English in everyday life, using small group discussion strategies to make students more active in interacting with others. To collect the data for this research, the writer conduct in interview and questionnaire with the eight grade students at Junior High School Bina Jaya of Palembang. Each student will be given a paper like a questionnaire. The author will discuss the results of the research that has been done, namely using the small group discussion technique in learning speaking skills of students in the eighth grade. From the results of the questionnaire data processing, it can be seen from the statement item no.32 "Small group discussion techniques can improve students ''speaking skills". Most of the students chose 8 (50%) of the 16 respondents answered fully agree, while the rest chose 8 (50%) of the 16 respondents answered agree. Then the dominant result is balanced. The overall results of the study showed that small group discussions can effectively improve students' speaking skills, they actively conduct group discussions with their friends. Allow them to have an opinion and help each other, without mocking or laughing at each other.

Abstract

Reading is a critical English ability for students to attain develop master to examine English, it is crucial to the destiny of students who want to be better degrees of studying. This study was aimed at finding out the exploration of multimodal text to energize reading with visual representation and comprehension. This study used a qualitative descriptive method. The data in this study were, observation, documentation and questionnaire. Based on the result of questionnaire in graph of pie, it was found that 53% of students answered fully agree and 39% of 35 students answered agree, so it can be concluded a students to give the positive perception about multimodal text as a media to energize their reading, and it can be conclude that the tenth grade students of State Vocational High School 5 of Palembang has positive perception. So students can enjoy and explore the multimodal text with their own choices.

Abstract

The advent of digital technology has revolutionized various sectors, including education, by providing automated and sophisticated systems to enhance learning experiences. This study explores the effectiveness of the Spotify application as a medium to improve students' listening abilities in English. Recognizing the significance of listening as one of the four essential language skills, this research addresses the challenge students face in mastering listening due to limited vocabulary and noisy classroom environments. Utilizing a pre-experimental design with a quantitative approach, this study involved pre-test and post-test assessments of two groups: a control class and an experimental class using the Spotify application. The research instrument consisted of written tests, including fill-in and multiple-choice formats, designed to measure students' listening performance. Data collection focused on comparing pre-test and post-test scores to evaluate improvements. The findings revealed a significant enhancement in students' listening abilities after using the Spotify application, with mean scores increasing from 42.89 to 82.42, reflecting a 39.52% improvement. The t-test value further supported these results (5.72 > 2.026). The study concludes that Spotify, with its diverse features such as music discovery, personalized playlists, lyrics integration, and offline access, serves as an effective tool to engage students and improve their listening skills. This method not only addresses the difficulties students face in listening but also motivates them through an enjoyable and interactive learning process.

Abstract

This study aims to determine how students' speaking skills improve in English learning through storytelling. By understanding how this improvement occurs, prospective educators are expected to be able to apply several interesting teaching methods to improve students' English speaking skills. This study is a classroom action research and consists of two cycles. The methodology used is quantitative research. The results of this study indicate that students' speaking skills improve after being taught through storytelling. The students are more imaginative in demonstrating their understanding of the story. It makes them motivated to learn and they can improve their speaking skills. The average score of students before the implementation of storytelling is 48 and the average score of students after implementing storytelling is 84. Thus, Improving Students' Speaking Skills in English Learning Through Storytelling is very effective to implement as long as it is fun and easy to understand by students at SMA Patra Mandiri 01 Palembang.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study was motivated by students' low learning outcomes in Indonesian language learning, particularly in interview materials. The study aimed to examine the improvement of students' learning outcomes through the implementation of the communicative method. A quantitative approach was employed using a pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design. The participants consisted of 18 seventh-grade students at SMPN 16 Palembang. Data were collected through essay tests and analyzed using descriptive statistics as well as inferential statistical analysis appropriate to the research design. The findings revealed that the students' mean score increased from 54.83 on the pretest to 79.83 on the posttest. If inferential analysis yielded a significance value (p < 0.05) or an N-Gain score, these results should be reported in this section to strengthen the evidence for the effectiveness of the communicative method. The improvement indicates that the communicative method effectively enhanced students' understanding of interview materials while encouraging their active participation in the learning process. These findings contribute to the development of Indonesian language teaching strategies by demonstrating that the communicative method can serve as an effective alternative for improving students' learning outcomes and classroom engagement in interview learning at the junior secondary school (SMP) level. Therefore, the communicative method is recommended as one of the effective instructional strategies for Indonesian language learning at the junior secondary school (SMP) level.   Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh rendahnya hasil belajar siswa dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia, khususnya pada materi wawancara. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji peningkatan hasil belajar siswa melalui penerapan metode komunikatif. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan desain pra-eksperimental one-group pretest-posttest. Partisipan penelitian terdiri dari 18 siswa kelas VII SMPN 16 Palembang. Data dikumpulkan melalui tes esai dan dianalisis menggunakan statistik deskriptif serta uji statistik inferensial sesuai dengan rancangan penelitian. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rata-rata nilai siswa meningkat dari 54,83 pada pretest menjadi 79,83 pada posttest. Apabila berdasarkan hasil analisis inferensial diperoleh nilai p < 0,05 atau nilai N-Gain, hasil tersebut perlu dicantumkan pada bagian ini untuk memperkuat bukti efektivitas metode komunikatif. Peningkatan tersebut menunjukkan bahwa metode komunikatif mampu meningkatkan pemahaman siswa terhadap materi wawancara sekaligus mendorong keterlibatan aktif dalam proses pembelajaran. Temuan ini memberikan kontribusi terhadap pengembangan strategi pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia dengan menunjukkan bahwa metode komunikatif dapat menjadi alternatif pembelajaran yang efektif untuk meningkatkan hasil belajar dan partisipasi siswa pada materi wawancara di jenjang sekolah menengah pertama (SMP). Dengan demikian, metode komunikatif layak dipertimbangkan sebagai salah satu strategi pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia di sekolah menengah pertama (SMP).

Abstract

The communicative approach method also needs to emphasize how a teacher functions during the learning process, because the point of learning is to help students acquire the experience they need so that they can interact verbally and face-to-face by listening, retaining information or problem-solving. This method is a form of learning teaching that excels the existence of interaction between the teacher and the student.Based on that, we intend to propose a research entitled Commucicative Method Approach In Learning English Through Multimedia Devices In Grade 11 Students 4 Moist). With the theme of Application of Commucicative Approach in Learning English Through Multimedia Devices in Grade 11 Students (Research of Class Action In SMKN 4 Palembang) it can be concluded that the learning results of speaking skills and learning activities App English Language Learning Through Multimedia Devices In Grade 11 Students (Class Action Research In SMKN 4 Palembang) experienced improvement. The study was implemented with two cycles, the mean score obtained by the students after following the final test from cycle I to cycle II after applying the learning method underwent an increase i.e. from 62 in cycle I to 94 in cycle II from the ideal score that students could achieve learning ISpeaking skills 100. also experienced improvement. On cycle I, out of 10 (40%) students became on cycle II as many as 24 (96%) students achieved learning dropout and classical learning dropout was achieved. Students’ learning activities from the beginning of cycle I learning to with the end of cycle II learning experienced a positive improvement..
