Abstract

Role playing merupakan pementasan drama yang sangat sederhana. Peran diambil dari kehidupan sehari-hari (bukan imajinatif). Role playing merupakan langkah awal dalam pengajaran drama. Dari role playing dapat dicapai aspek perasaan, sikap, nilai, persepsi, keterampilan pemecahan masalah, dan pemahaman terhadap pokok permasalahan. Para murid berpartisipasi sebagai pemain dengan peran tertentu atau sebagai pengamat bergantung dari tujuan-tujuan dari penerapan metode  “role playing is the acting of roles decided upon in advanced, for such purpose as recreating historical scenes of the past, possible event of the future, significant current events, or imaginary situations at any place or time”. Dapat diartikan bahwa bermain peran adalah memerankan dari suatu keputusan peraturan yang teratur, untuk tujuan seperti menciptakan kembali adegan sejarah dari peristiwa masa lalu, memungkinkan peristiwa yang akan datang, peristiwa nyata yang signifikan, atau situasi imajiner di setiap tempat atau waktu.

Abstract

Storytelling or storytelling is an imaginary story that is considered not to have really happened, either by the teller or by the listener. Fairy tales are not bound by normative and factual provisions regarding actors, time and place. The perpetrators are imaginary creatures who have the wisdom or lack thereof to arrange human problems in all kinds of ways. Fairy tales are told mainly for entertainment, although many also depict truth or even morals. From the description above, the researcher concludes that storytelling or storytelling is a type of prose in old Malay literature that does not really happen in relation to the social environment. and passed down orally from one generation to the next. This community service is carried out as an embodiment of the implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education for Lecturers at PGRI University in Palembang and L2 Dikti Palembang. The target to be achieved in the implementation of Community Service (PKM) is that lecturers can apply and develop their academic skills. Abstract

This need analysis research aimed to know the source of information that students’ need in the necessities, lacks and wants related to the students’ vocational area.  This study was a qualitative research and the data collected by the primary data of questionnaire to 39 students, teacher interview and the secondary data was the documentation of syllabus. According to Target Situational Analysis (TSA) of students needs in Hospitality Industry Department of Muhammadiyah Vocational High School 3 of Palembang, synchronized with interview and documentation, the students questionnaire revealed the “Necessities” were 81.5% or slightly high to upgrading their skills, not only for the requirement at school. Students “Lacks” in learning English for Specifics Purpose were 61.45% because the students lack of vocabulary. And the potential skills that students need according the “wants” in learning English shows that the most wanted skill is, 1) Speaking (80.95%), 2) Listening (80.8%), 3) Reading (75.9%) and lastly, 4) Writing (75%).   Related to the students needs, the students must practice more and aware with the English as the future needs in academic, career and personal interest to become capable and proficient as the communicative skills. This research was tried to discover the information about the potential needs on English for Specifics Purposes for vocational needs.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was that students could communicate fluently using English in everyday life, using small group discussion strategies to make students more active in interacting with others. To collect the data for this research, the writer conduct in interview and questionnaire with the eight grade students at Junior High School Bina Jaya of Palembang. Each student will be given a paper like a questionnaire. The author will discuss the results of the research that has been done, namely using the small group discussion technique in learning speaking skills of students in the eighth grade. From the results of the questionnaire data processing, it can be seen from the statement item no.32 "Small group discussion techniques can improve students ''speaking skills". Most of the students chose 8 (50%) of the 16 respondents answered fully agree, while the rest chose 8 (50%) of the 16 respondents answered agree. Then the dominant result is balanced. The overall results of the study showed that small group discussions can effectively improve students' speaking skills, they actively conduct group discussions with their friends. Allow them to have an opinion and help each other, without mocking or laughing at each other.

Abstract

Reading is a critical English ability for students to attain develop master to examine English, it is crucial to the destiny of students who want to be better degrees of studying. This study was aimed at finding out the exploration of multimodal text to energize reading with visual representation and comprehension. This study used a qualitative descriptive method. The data in this study were, observation, documentation and questionnaire. Based on the result of questionnaire in graph of pie, it was found that 53% of students answered fully agree and 39% of 35 students answered agree, so it can be concluded a students to give the positive perception about multimodal text as a media to energize their reading, and it can be conclude that the tenth grade students of State Vocational High School 5 of Palembang has positive perception. So students can enjoy and explore the multimodal text with their own choices.

Abstract

The advent of digital technology has revolutionized various sectors, including education, by providing automated and sophisticated systems to enhance learning experiences. This study explores the effectiveness of the Spotify application as a medium to improve students' listening abilities in English. Recognizing the significance of listening as one of the four essential language skills, this research addresses the challenge students face in mastering listening due to limited vocabulary and noisy classroom environments. Utilizing a pre-experimental design with a quantitative approach, this study involved pre-test and post-test assessments of two groups: a control class and an experimental class using the Spotify application. The research instrument consisted of written tests, including fill-in and multiple-choice formats, designed to measure students' listening performance. Data collection focused on comparing pre-test and post-test scores to evaluate improvements. The findings revealed a significant enhancement in students' listening abilities after using the Spotify application, with mean scores increasing from 42.89 to 82.42, reflecting a 39.52% improvement. The t-test value further supported these results (5.72 > 2.026). The study concludes that Spotify, with its diverse features such as music discovery, personalized playlists, lyrics integration, and offline access, serves as an effective tool to engage students and improve their listening skills. This method not only addresses the difficulties students face in listening but also motivates them through an enjoyable and interactive learning process.
