Abstract

Written corrective feedback is essential in the teaching of writing skills to help prospective teacher enhance their writing performance. Lecturers try to apply strategies in committing written corrective feedback in fully online learning. In addition, written corrective feedback can improve learners' metalinguistics, metacognition, teachers-learners interaction, and peer connection. Consequently, the present study will be aimed at investigating English lecturers' common practices and strategies in committing online written corrective feedback during Covid-19 pandemic at higher education. This study is classified as a qualitative study which is a descriptive qualitative study. It is chosen because the data of this study relates to opinions or attitudes in the form of lecturers' strategies in the teaching of writing skills and online corrective feedback. The data are elaborated in the form of words, phrases, sentences, and paragraphs. To attain the data, researchers use interview technique. There are five English lecturers involved in the current study. The data are analyzed by using qualitative processes which are data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing or verification. The novelty of this study lies on written feedback, written corrective feedback, and online written corrective feedback. Due to Covid-19 pandemic, the teaching-learning process is done in fully online learning.

Abstract

This research aimed at finding out the measurement of the level of E2DC debater’s critical thinking skill in reading newspaper and the strategy that used. There were many important things as debaters that were: make argumentation well, practice critical thinking and good public speaking as native speaker. Not only that but also you will have confidently in the classroom when you presentation and felt easier than other students. In providing evidence the debater should have good background of knowledge because that was the way to increase debaters’ critical thinking. The members of this community were trained to becoming debaters and being able to make an argumentation well and have critical thinking skills with kind of issue. The researcher identified several problems in Debaters’ critical thinking skills. In other words, a debater must have critical skills to understand the main idea from the text and can make inference by their own words. Not only that but also, they must be able to make it different between the fact, opinion and non-fact. The result of observation section. First debater was Excellent as the OG (Opening Government), the second debater was Average as the OO (Opening opposition), the third debater was Good as the CG (Closing Government) and the last or the fourth debater was Below Average as the CO (Closing Opposition). From all the percentage shows that, the percentage of using Cognitive Domain in reading skills from the four debaters is higher than Incorporating Critical Thinking.

Abstract

This study aims to see whether the RARE strategy can improve students' reading comprehension at SMPN 2 Palibelo. This research is a class action research (CAR). The data obtained in the form of quantitative and qualitative methods. The instrument used by the researcher was in the form of a test (posttest) in the form of multiple choices. There are four steps to doing: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. This classroom action research was carried out in two cycles. The first cycle was conducted in two meetings and the second cycle in two meetings. The first cycle was carried out by providing material about the types of vehicles and their existence, in the first cycle there was no increase and it was continued in the second cycle, namely with lots and lots of material, and some several. The results of this study indicate that there is an increase in students' reading in cycle II. Researcher found a significant increase in cycle II, this can be seen from the average cycle of 46 for pre-test, 62.3 for post-test I and 83 for post-test II. So teaching using the RARE strategy shows students are active and enthusiastic in learning English. In addition to the explanation above, the RARE strategy also has several advantages, such as: easy to understand and easy to implement. From the explanation above, the use of the RARE strategy in the learning process of reading comprehension has a positive effect on student achievement, because students can learn easily and relaxed without any burden. I hope this RARE strategy helps more students to improve their reading comprehension.

Abstract

This research was aimed at finding out the effectiveness of word card to improve students’ english vocabulary. The subject of this study was 27 students at first grade of SMKN 1 Batulayar. In which consist of 16 males and 11 females. It was classroom action research, each cycle consist of four steps: planning, acting, observing and reflecting. The researcher used observation sheet to find out the activity during learning process and questionnaire to find out students improve in learning vocabulary. From this research, the students could improve their vocabulary by using word card. It proved in the first cycle, the students mean score was 72.7 there were 18 students passing KKM and the percentage was 66.6%. And it more improved in the second cycle, the students mean score 87.96 , there was all of students passing KKM and the percentage was 100%. Therefore, students become more enthusiastic and they were more active in learning English vocabulary. From those result the writer concludes that word card method is able to improve students’ English vocabulary of SMKN 1 Batulayar at first grade is successful.

Abstract

This research was aimed to describe using Autoplay Media to Improve Students’ Speaking Performance at SMAS Darul Hikmah Mataram. The model of this research was classroom action research. This research focused on improving of the students’ speaking performance by using Autoplay Media. This research consisted of one cycle include the classroom action research model such as: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. In this research, the researcher toke the XI IPS of SMAS Darul Hikmah Mataram. The instrument that used by the researcher in this study were test, recording, and observation sheet to measure the students result.  Based on the result of data analysis the mean score of students’ achievement in the first cycle was 45.05 in the pre-test and the percentage was 21.05% and post-test was 79.36, percentage was 78.94%. So the researcher concluded that the score of the students’ speaking performance was higher than minimum Complete Criteria Success (KKM), in which the KKM of SMAS Darul Hikmah Mataram was 75. So, it could be concluded that this research was successful and could increase students’ speaking performance.

Abstract

The introduction of English from the beginning is based on a pedagogical concept that the earlier a person is introduced to the target language, the faster and better the child's mastery and acquisition of the language being learned. But unfortunately, the policy of teaching English as a local content subject has not been accompanied by maximum effort from the school. Both in the form of knowledge and teaching skills as well as teacher education qualifications. This condition certainly affects the quality of learning carried out. This study is aimed to describe the use of classroom languages in teaching English used by English teacher in MI Al-Amin Pejeruk, Mataram city. In this research, the writers use descriptive qualitative method. The techniques of data collection in this study are observation, interview, and documentation. The writers use data reduction, data display and data conclusion to analyze the data. The finding shows that the use of classroom languages became one of the effective strategy in teaching English. Through relevant classroom language, children can work together and communicate in learning.
