Abstract

This study aimed to find out whether the integration of the English Pronunciation app in pronunciation class at Mandalika University of Education (UNDIKMA) can increase students? participation and self-learning. This study made use of quasi-qualitative design. Forty-eight first-year English department students from two groups of learning involved in this research, aged between 19 to 21. Each group, group A and group B, comprised of 24 students. Both groups received instruction using the English pronunciation app. Data was collected using class observation and interviews. In conducting observation, the observer chose to take the role of participant-observer in that the researcher immersed with the students during the observation activities. One volunteer assistant was employed to work with the researcher. It was intended to increase the accuracy of the data collected. In regard to the interview process, the researcher used individual and group interviews where one interviewer/researcher interviews a group of students. The result of the study indicates that the integration of the English Pronunciation app in teaching pronunciation increased the students? participation (engagement, attitude, and conduct). In addition, the app brought a positive effect to the establishment of independent learning to a significant number of students.

Abstract

The problem statement of this research is hyponym effective towards students’ vocabulary at the first semester of English Department of FBMB. The aim of the research is to find out the effect of using hyponym in teaching vocabulary of first semester of English Department of FBMB. This research used quantitative research with experimental design. This research was conducted on September to November 2021. The total of students were 120 students. The researcher chose two classes as the sample of the research, namely control and experimental groups. In experimental group treated by hyponym and control group treated by vocabulary mastery and motivation. Both of the groups had been given pre-test and post-test. The sample was selected by using simple random sampling technique. This research motivation as support students’ learning especially in enhance students’ vocabulary.  The result of this study, there are differences in result between post experiment and post control (82.40 >61.87). So, the use of hyponym technique can enhance students’ learning outcome while, the mean score of students’ having higher motivation is 78.284 > 62.525 is lower. It can be concluded that the students’ having higher motivation have better vocabulary than students’ having lower motivation.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian pada masyarakat ini memilih topik “Pemberdayaan Masyarakat Sekolah Melalui “English Alphabetical Pronunciation” Siswa SMP N 1 Aikmel Kabupaten Lombok Timur”. Kegiatan pengabdian ini dilaksanakan di Laboratorium Bahasa di SMPN 1 Aikmel Kabupaten Lombok Timur dibawah bimbingan langsung DPL dan Mahasiswa bahasa Inggris FPBS-IKIP Mataram. Materi yang disampaikan dari buku yang berjudul “The sound of English: A Reference Manual for using the International Phonetic Alphabet” yang ditulis oleh Aiken dan Pearce (1993). Adapun unsur materi yang disampaikan meliputi 12 vokal (Vowel); 8 Vokal rangkap (diphtong) dan 24 Consonants (konsonan atau huruf mati). Peserta yang terlibat dalam pengabdian pada masyarakat ini berjumlah 30 orang. Mereka adalah siswa-siswi kelas II SMP N 1 Aikmel Kabupaten Lombok Timur. Pengabdian dilaksanakan dalam 4 kegiatan yaitu; ceramah, mendengarkan kaset dan memcocokan simbol Alfabet pada hand out yang dibagikan pada setiap peserta, tanya jawab dan latihan secara individu maupun kelompok. Semua kegiatan berjalan lancar berkat bantuan/demontrasi ekstra dari penceramah. Adapun tujuan dari pengabdian ini antara lain untuk memperkenalkan ucapan alfabet bahasa Inggris yang benar, memperkaya pengetahuan para siswa-siswi tentang alfabet bahasa Asing (Inggris) dan mempraktikan sendiri pengucapan alfabet dengan bantuan simbol-simbol yang ada di dalam kamus, dan dapat membandingkan ucapan alfabet bahasa Inggris dengan Bahasa Indonesia atau bahasa Arab yang jauh lebih mereka kuasai. Pengabdian ini diharapkan bermanfaat untuk memacu minat siswa-siswi untuk belajar mandiri tanpa selalu berada di kelas dengan bantuan guru, dan dengan demikian diharapkan bahasa Inggris siswa-siswi tersebut akan lebih baik dan komunikatif. Evaluasi selama pengabdian menunjukkan respon positip dari peserta. Ini sebagai indicator masih dirasakan perlunya bimbingan extra tentang bahasa Inggris dan untuk itu dirasakan perlu tindak lanjut dikemudian hari dengan peserta yang bervariasi.

Abstract

Pringgasela is one of the tourism places in Lombok island which is located at Pringgasela Sub-district, East Lombok Regency. Pringgasela has been announced as a Fabric Industry Centre in Lombok island, the best quality of fabrics is produced by the fabric craftsmen and craftswomen in that place, this fabric industry is important to support the local economic system of Pringgasela’s society. Foreign tourists are the target market of the fabric sellers in global scale; however, this opportunity was not supported by the English communication skill of the sellers. This program is aimed to train and facilitate the fabric craftsmen, craftswomen and the fabric sellers of English communication skill by using Direct Selling gradually and continuously, so they could improve their skill in English communication, especially in promoting their products. Technically, the objectives of this program were; 1). to train the the fabric craftsmen, craftswomen and the fabric sellers of English communication skill, so they could promote their products to the foreign tourists effectively and efficiently; 2). as the alternative solution for the fabric sellers, in which they would not rely their target profit to the local guide or travel agency anymore. The method of this program has been done through four steps; 1). Planning; 2). Action; 3). Guiding; and 4). Reflection and Evaluation. During the process of the program, the trainers team monitor the participants by interviewing them related with the material, the method used and the tutors of this program. Generally, the participants gave a positive response, they stated that this program was a good training program and the materials given were appropriate for them that clearly explained by the professional tutors. Based on the calculation data, the responses of the participants were; 1) 83% (very good category); 2). 8% (good category); 3). 8% (enough category); and 4) 0% (less category).

Abstract

This study aims to examine whether there is an effect of using online games and students' interest on English learning achievement at SMPN 2 Sambelia. Sampling used a total sampling technique with a total of 20 people. This study uses two independent variables, namely online games (X1) and student interest (X2), while the dependent variable is learning achievement (Y). The data used in this study is primary data in the form of a questionnaire with 20 respondents. This research method uses ex post facto. The data analysis technique used in this study was simple regression analysis. The results of this study note the F value of 1.390 < compared to the F-table of 3.59. So, it can be concluded that H0 is accepted and Ha is rejected, which means that there is no significant effect between online games (X1) and interest (X2) on student achievement (Y).

Abstract

Penelitian ini membahas strategi guru EFL dalam meningkatkan kepercayaan diri siswa dalam penampilan berbicara di tengah pandemi Covid-19 MA NW Pringgasela. Hal ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui strategi yang digunakan oleh guru dalam meningkatkan kepercayaan diri siswa pada penampilan berbicara. Peneliti menggunakan observasi dan pertanyaan wawancara untuk mendapatkan beberapa data. Pada sesi terakhir, dibahas bahwa ada dampak yang berbeda berdasarkan strategi guru terhadap kepercayaan diri siswa dalam penampilan berbicara. Peneliti menemukan beberapa hal yang mempengaruhi kepercayaan diri siswa dalam menggunakan strategi yang digunakan oleh guru, yaitu bermain peran, diskusi, dan deskripsi gambar. Selanjutnya, peneliti menyimpulkan bahwa strategi tersebut akan berdampak positif terhadap peningkatan kepercayaan diri siswa, ketika strategi membuat siswa bekerja secara kolektif untuk menyelesaikan tugasnya. Di sisi lain, strategi tersebut akan berdampak negatif terhadap peningkatan kepercayaan diri siswa, ketika strategi tersebut membuat siswa bekerja secara individual dalam menyelesaikan tugasnya

Abstract

Kurangnya pengetahuan tentang bahasa Inggris sangat berpengaruh besar pada minat belajar siswa. Guru mempunyai peranan yang krusial dalam menyajikan pembelajaran yang interaktif dan menyenangkan bagi siswa. Akan tetapi guru masih terlihat enggan untuk menyisipkan metode pembelajaran yang kreatif sehingga  siswa dalam kesehariannya tidak mengenal bahasa Inggris dengan baik dan kurang berminat belajar bahasa Inggris. Siswa tidak fasih dalam berbahasa Inggris selama proses belajar dan mengajar karena malu untuk mengucapkan kosakata berbahasa Inggris dihadapan teman kelasnya. Permasalahan yang dipecahkan dalam program pengabdian kepada masyarakat adalah bagaimana penerapan Tongue Twister dalam upaya meningkatkan kemampuan berbahasa Inggris para siswa, dan menemukan sejauh mana kemampuan berbahasa Inggris siswa dalam menggunakan Tongue Twister. Siswa diharapkan dapat memiliki pengucapan yang baik, mencapai skor standar, dan aktif dalam berbicara menggunakan bahasa Inggris. Metode berupa pendekatan kuantitatif dengan desain pre-experimental. Teknik pengambilan sampel yang digunakan adalah cluster random sampling. Populasinya adalah siswa kelas VII MTS Negeri 3 Lombok Barat yang terdiri dari 60 siswa dan sampel 20 siswa dengan prosedur yaitu memberikan speaking test, terdiri atas pre-test dan post-test. Skor tes diolah menggunakan T-test. Hasil adalah rerata skor pre-test pada pengucapan (pronunciation) adalah 3,9 dan post-test adalah 4,4. Sedangkan rerata skor pada kelancaran (fluency) adalah 4.15 dan post-test adalah 4,6. Total hasil pengucapan (pronunciation) dan kelancaran (fluency) atau X1 adalah 80.5 dan post-test atau X2 adalah 90. Hasil pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini menunjukkan adanya peningkatan capaian pengucapan siswa yang diajar dengan teknik tongue twister.

Abstract

This investigation deal with quasi experimental in the form non-randomize control group design or non-equivalent by purposing at finding out teaching reading through three stay one stray. The investigation used total sampling technique in determining the sample of the research. The data was taken by using test in the form of multiples choice and it analyzed by using descriptive statistic and inferential analysis. Based on the data analysis was gotten that the result of analysis shown that t-test was higher than t-table. It can be inferred that alternative hypothesis accepted and null hypothesis rejected. Therefore, it concluded that there was significant effect teaching reading through three stay one stray
