Abstract

Background: Global South colleges employ public relations differently. This gap must be researched to improve these institutions’ reputations. This paper maps and analyzes university public relations research and evaluates science communication framework integration. Method: A comprehensive literature study of four main public relations journals examined publication frequency on public relations, universities, higher education, and colleges during the past 12 years. Results: Public relations research has increased, although university-related studies are scarce. Only twenty-one articles explored this sector, mostly by US scholars focusing on crisis communication. These findings reveal higher education institutions’ communication dynamics and goals when analyzed organizationally and systemically. This report discusses university branding, digital communication methods, and stakeholder participation. It also reveals temporal patterns, such as communication practice changes over time, and university communication components like crisis management and community engagement. These factors depart from public relations research’s corporate and governmental focus. Conclusion: University-specific public relations literature is lacking due to crisis communication studies and US-based authors. This emphasizes the need for further research, particularly the incorporation of the science communication framework, which is essential for understanding how higher education institutions communicate with the public on scientific matters. Implications: This study suggests universities use communication tactics that differ from commercial and government public relations studies.

Abstract

This article describes the condition of Parmalim believers in Aceh Singkil who are marginalized and receive discriminatory treatment. This discriminatory treatment has left Parmalim believers in limbo when it comes to practicing their faith. The number of these believers in the area is decreasing day by day as more and more are converting to state-recognized religions. The research method used is the qualitative research method. The informants in this study consisted of key informants such as the village head, the secretariat of the Parmalim sect, the weekly ritual leader, and the Persantian board, as well as supporting informants, namely Parmalim believers who could provide additional information to enrich the data such as farmers, traders and people who are active in social activities in Parmalim. The results show that social activities and interactions between Parmalim believers and community members of other religions continue to run well. However, the phenomenon of discriminatory treatment against Parmalim believers is still ongoing. Proposals to repair places of worship to the Aceh Singkil Regional Government have never been fulfilled. In the field of education, there are no religious lessons or worship practices to strengthen the children of Parmalim followers. The children of Parmalim believers do not dare to reveal their beliefs, because the religious teachers at school only teach Islamic and Christian religious education.

Abstract

Al-tijārah Mādiyyah, or what is referred to as the sale between fellow human beings in Islam, is limited by certain laws that are very detailed and vary according to the type of sale. The development of digital technology in business affects both online and offline transaction activities and creates new behaviors and violations based on Sharia law. Hence, the objective of this study is to delve further into the traditions and detrimental effects of each type, supplemented with descriptions of specific instances from prior studies. This study employs a library-based research model that relies on verbal information obtained from textual sources, primarily the Quran, Hadith, scholar viewpoints, and previous research. The researcher initiated an investigation into the verses of the Quran and the Hadith, thereafter adhering to the viewpoints of past scholars and uncovering recent instances of Sharia law transgressions based on prior studies on commercial transactions. This research provided additional references to the concept of Al-tijārah in Islam, which motivated other researchers to investigate specific trade cases and find solutions based on Islamic Sharia clauses. It also addressed the incomplete definitions of the type Al-Tijārah in many previous studies. This research also serves as a preventative strategy to ensure that every Muslim does not compromise their spiritual well-being in pursuit of worldly advantages in every commercial transaction.
