Abstract

Bioskop Harewos is a cinema that specialized in visually impaired film viewers in Bandung, Indonesia.  The cinema runs with a traditional and distinct watching process. Some important concepts used in this research are related to communication competences; Visually impaired; and film. Using a qualitative method with constructivism paradigm and case study approach, this research tries to uncover several aspects, such as the communication capabilities of Visual Readers in Bioskop Harewos; the management effort of Bioskop Harewos in enhancing the communication effectiveness between Visual Readers and visually impaired viewers; also the competency of communication skills that required by Visual Readers. The result of this study revealed that the communication skills of Visual Readers in terms of being a prompter to visually impaired viewers were still under expectation. In terms of improving communication skills, the manager of the Bioskop Harewos has made several introductions and pre-viewing activities, yet the result is not as expected. This research also found three key competencies that are a necessity to be possessed by Visual Readers.

Abstract

Bioskop Harewos is a cinema in the Bandung, West Java, intended for visually impaired audiences. This research focused on efforts to uncover the existence of Bioskop Harewos for the visually impaired and the model of watching films of visually impaired audiences in Bioskop Harewos. The research method was a qualitative case study using several theories and concepts for alternative media. This research collected various data from cinematographers, cinema managers, and Bioskop Harewos team and audiences through interviews. The results showed that Bioskop Harewos is an alternative media for visually impaired audiences in Bandung to watch films in cinemas. Even with the ‘Harewos’ system, the Bioskop Harewos had fulfilled the visually impaired audiences’ demands to watch films in the cinema. The technical limitations of Bioskop Harewos did not reduce the value of entertainment for visually impaired audiences.

Abstract

Bioskop Harewos as a special cinema for the audiences with visual impairments have a uniqueness.  The uniqueness that replaces the role of Audio Description with individuals, known as Visual Reader. The Visual Reader is in charge of telling the visual scene of the movie being watched. The purpose of this research is to find out the obstacles experienced of the audiences with visual impairments when watching movies accompanied by the Visual Reader; knowing the barriers of Visual Reader in giving the visual description of the movie to the audiences with visual impairments; and learned about the Bioskop Harewos preparations for the Visual Reader and the audiences with visual impairments before the watching process took place.   Research methods using qualitative case studies. The results of the research found that spectators of the audiences with visual impairments experienced have several obstacles when communicating with the Visual Reader in the process of watching movies at the Bioskop Harewos. The obstacles were assessed from various aspects, therefore visual message from the film was not obtained to the maximum. Visual Reader also has difficulties in narrating visual messages to the audiences with visual impairments.  Keywords : film, Audiences, Visual Impairments, Visual Reader, Cinema

Abstract

Film memiliki variasi yang cukup beragam.  Keberagaman ini biasa dikenal dengan istilah genre.  Variasi genre pada film tentunya memberi sensasi yang bervariasi pula terhadap penonton, salah satunya pada penonton tuna netra.  “Bioskop Harewos”, sebagai wadah menonton film bagi tuna netra memiliki model komunikasi yang unik, hal ini pula menjadi faktor keunikan pemahaman dalam menonton film berbagai genre karena film juga akan dibubuhi oleh deskripsi dari pembisik (Visual reader).  Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkapkan tentang sistem/pola penentuan genre film yang dipilih pada setiap pemutaran di “Bioskop Harewos”; hambatan komunikasi pada setiap genre film yang diputar di “Bioskop Harewos”; dan pentingnya genre yang tepat bagi penonton film tuna netra di “Bioskop Harewos”. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi kasus.  Beberapa konsep yang digunakan pada penelitian ini berkaitan dengan film, tuna netra, dan efektivitas komunikasi.  Hasil penelitian mengungkapkan bahwa dalam penentuan genre film yang akan tayang pada sebuah pemutaran, pengelola “Bioskop Harewos” lebih mengutamakan moment atau tema yang diangkat pada pemutaran untuk menyesuaikan genre film yang dianggap paling cocok untuk diputar.  Perizinan film dan pengalaman pernah atau belum pernah pada suatu genre film ditayangkan di “Bioskop Harewos” juga menjadi pertimbangan, namun bukanlah komponen utama sampingan.  Penelitian ini juga mengungkapkan bahwa penonton tuna netra di “Bioskop Harewos” mengalami berbagai kendala atau hambatan komunikasi pada setiap genre film yang ditonton.  Hambatan terbesar muncul dari film ber-genre thriller dan horror.  Genre merupakan komponen yang cukup penting dalam keefektifan pemahaman penonton film tuna netra di “Bioskop Harewos”.

Abstract

Interaction between one person and another can take place effectively if communication is established in two directions so that messages and information conveyed can be well received and a reciprocal process occurs between one person to another. The communication process happens to everyone, with no exception for people with visual impairments. This study aims to determine the experience of people with visual impairments in communicating with others by utilizing information and communication technology, namely smartphones through the talkback application. Information is taken from the perspective of blind people who experience total blindness and blind people with low vision. The study used a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach, with data collection through in-depth interviews, observation and literature study. Data validity is done through source triangulation techniques. The results of the study concluded that TalkBack is very helpful for people with visual impairments to be able to use smartphones and communicate through WhatsApp applications. It is known that the interpretation of messages received by people with visual impairments is influenced by other factors, for blind people from birth in addition to the role of TalkBack, the touch and audio experience of video messages becomes quite important in interpreting a message and information. In blind people due to accidents, stored memory of experiences of seeing before experiencing blindness is one important part in interpreting messages from WhatsApp, and blind people with low vision conditions, visual vision is very helpful for them in interpreting messages and information received.

Abstract

The video of rejection of COVID-19 vaccine by Ribka Tjiptaning, a public figure in Indonesia, has become one of the most popular trending news topics in various media in Indonesia. The purpose of this study is to explore the cyber community beliefs regarding COVID-19 prevention vaccination through Ribka Tjiptaning’s video statement on Instagram and Facebook posts. The research was conducted on Instagram and Facebook comments with a netnographic approach by relying on the selective process theory, the concept of conspiracy, and vaccine hesitancy. Two main themes were identified: pro comments, through statements that support the content on the video, and counter comments, through statements that reject the content on the video.

Abstract

There is a growing expectation for the iconic statue to emerge as a tourism icon, particularly in Bali, Indonesia; following the completion of the Garu-da Wisnu Kencana Statue in 2018. Therefore, this quantitative study was car-ried out to answer the two key research questions; Are potential tourists aware of the presence of this new landmark after the development and whether there is an influence on motivation to visit, particularly for foreign tourists? The study was conducted using an online survey that was sent to 80 foreign tourists from all around the world. The findings revealed that the majority of respondents in this survey were uninformed of the statue's presence, and that if they were aware of its presence, it had an impact on their desire to visit Bali. This makes it critical to raise public awareness about the Garuda Wisnu Kencana Statue, which located at the Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park in Bali, Indonesia and suggested that the presence of Garuda Wisnu Kencana Statue can be op-timally used as a significant marketing tools by Indonesian Ministry of Tourism. Theoretical implications include summarizing the key elements of a tourism destination with a tourism icon that attracts potential tourists. Practical implica-tions include presenting measurement on steps to maximize the presence of a tourism icon with a variety of expectations from potential tourists.

Abstract

Crypto merupakan aset investasi yang tengah digandrungi di seluruh dunia, termasuk di Indonesia. Antusiasme masyarakat Indonesia akan crypto terlihat dari munculnya produk-produk crypto buatan Indonesia, salah satunya I-COIN. Di balik antusiasme ini, masih banyak perdebatan terkait crypto, khususnya dari segi agama Islam. Namun, I-COIN justru dipromosikan menggunakan pendekatan Faith-based Marketing (FbM) communication yang menyasar konsumen menggunakan simbol-simbol dan sentimenkeagamaan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana investasi crypto yang dipromosikan dengan FbM dipandang oleh masyarakat siber di Indonesia dengan menggunakan studi kualitatif netnografi.  eori dan konsep yang digunakan pada penelitian ini meliputi FbM, teori participatory culture, dan kredibilitas sumber. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kategori respons masyarakat siber mengenai promosi crypto menggunakan pendekatan FbM ini terdiri dari empat kategori, yaitu (1) Ketidakpercayaan pada praktik FbM; (2) Perdebatan Halal/Haram Produk; (3) Kredibilitas komunikator dan produk; dan (4) ketidakpedulian. Temuan ini dapat menjadi pertimbangan dalam perencanaan pemasaran produk, terutama dengan pendekatan FbM. Temuan unik pada penelitian ini berkaitan dengan FbM yang pada kenyataannya belum tentu mendapat respons baik pada setiap praktiknya. Penelitian ini sekaligus menunjukkan jika crypto sebagai bahan bakar penggerak metaverse masih menghadap tantangan yang besar untuk berpenetrasi ketengah-tengah komunitas Muslim di Indonesia.

Abstract

Background and purpose: The policy of implementing and expanding smoke free area (kawasan tanpa rokok/KTR) in several locations in the City of Bandung has become a topic that is highlighted by the community. Community response is an essential component in succeeding policy implementation. This study examines how the culture of cyber society responds to the implementation and extension of the KTR in the city of Bandung Methods: This study uses a qualitative method with a netnographic strategy. Three posts were selected according to the criteria for the research objectives, including: @prfmnews posts, @infobandungraya, and @infobdg.com. Instagram is selected as the research data source because, according to the Ministry of Communication and Information (Kominfo), it is the most popular social media in Indonesia. Indeed, every post and information on it has the potential to attract various groups. Several concepts and theories in this study relate to the diffusion of innovation, information literacy, cognitive dissonance theory, and selective process theory. Results: This study found some of the contra arguments were conducting tobacco control is false propaganda; other regulations are more urgent than KTR; the leading cause of dirty air is vehicles; local regulation on KTR is ambiguous, and smoking is part of individual rights. In the pro category, the communities are supportive, especially those who are passive smokers and feel discomfort with cigarette smoke conditions. Information and digital literacy related to cigarettes are factors that trigger individual responses to hoaxes and conspiratorial information about cigarettes. Denial to the reality of the dangers of smoking illustrates how the process of cognitive dissonance occurs in smokers who try to justify their actions for various reasons. The cyber community has experienced selective exposure to the KTR and the diffusion of innovations in the KTR should be considered. Conclusion: Based on the research findings, the researcher suggests that the government should pay attention to the stages of persuasion and promotion of KTR policies to achieve public obedience to the applicable local regulations.
