Abstract

This paper aims to elaborate on transforming the meaning of the term disabled contained in the Qur'an. The existence of disabled vocabulary that is commonly understood is often interpreted in terms of locus and does not include nonphysical aspects. If it is elaborated further, one will find that the Qur'an discusses not only the physical aspects of people with disabilities but also nonphysical aspects, which are referred to as "theological defects," which, in the end, have no less significant impact on life. Thus, the second aspect – nonphysical disability/theological disability – is no less interesting to be studied by the author and still does not get enough attention. As for the application, the author uses the tafsir maqāşidī which was initiated by Waşfī 'Āsyūr Abū Zaid, accompanied by several semantic approaches to the Al-Qur'an Toshihiko Izutsu. Finally, the maqāşid 'āmmah of the sample of the six verses with physical and nonphysical disabilities is that the Qur'an never considers physical disability as a form of deficiency.

Abstract

This study is aimed at revealing the strategies of advocacy for Muslim women and children who become victims of domestic violence in Semarang, Central Java, Indonesia.  This research was conducted at the ‘Legal Resources Centre for Gender Justice and Human Rights’ (LRC KJHAM) and the ‘Regional Technical Implementation Unit for the Protection of Women and Children’ (UPTD PPA). Data collection techniques include in-depth interviews and documentation. It employs two main theories, namely conflict theory and the maqasid al-shari’a (objectives of Islamic law). The results show that the advocacy efforts embrace complaint services, assessment, medical referrals, provision of safe houses, counselling, litigation and non-litigation legal assistance, empowerment, and policy advocacy. Based on conflict theory, a dialectic is found in domestic violence cases.  This can be observed that male dominance in a patriarchal system represents a thesis, whilst rejection of violence as a violation of human rights and Islamic principles embodies an antithesis, and advocacy as a form of resolution serves as synthesis. Furthermore, from the perspective of maqasid al-shari’a, this advocacy aligns with the five essential objectives of Islamic law, namely, preservation of religion (ḥifẓ al-dīn) through strengthening faith; preservation of life (ḥifẓ al-nafs) through medical services and safe houses; preservation of lineage (ḥifẓ al-naśl) through child protection and legal aid; preservation of intellect (ḥifẓ al-‘aql) through counselling; and preservation of wealth (ḥifẓ al-māl) through economic empowerment. This paper argues that the advocacy provided in these two institutions is not merely legal-formal, but also reflects a broader effort for social transformation rooted in Islamic teachings.

Abstract

The increasing prevalence of self-harm among adolescents from broken homes in Indonesia demonstrates the serious psychological impact of parental divorce, which often triggers emotional instability, anxiety, and destructive behaviors. National surveys indicate that adolescents from divorced families are more vulnerable to depression and self-injury than those from intact families. This study aims to explore the role of ma‘rifat al-nafs (self-awareness) as a Qur’anic-based approach to preventing self-harm in broken-home adolescents. Using a qualitative method with a descriptive-analytical approach, this research applies thematic exegesis of the Qur’an and integrates insights from classical and contemporary tafsir, particularly the thought of al-Ghazālī on self-awareness. The findings reveal that ma‘rifat al-nafs (a deep understanding of self-identity) strengthens emotional resilience by guiding adolescents to understand themselves, accept their circumstances, and transform negative emotions into constructive actions. Its practical application is realized through three techniques: self-talk as reflective dialogue to regulate emotions, self-forgiveness to release guilt and resentment, and self-love to build self-appreciation and positive growth. These techniques align with Qur’anic principles in Q.S. Al-Baqarah [2]: 195 and Q.S. As-Shams [91]: 7—10, which emphasizes the prohibition of self-destruction and the importance of soul purification. In conclusion, ma‘rifat al-nafs provides a spiritual and psychological framework to reduce self-harm tendencies, while its effectiveness requires support from education, community, and social environments. Thus, this study contributes to presenting a Qur’anic solution that integrates spiritual, emotional, and social dimensions to improve the well-being of adolescents from broken homes.

Abstract

Marriage Registration Officer (P3N) or in the community of Bener District, Puworejo Regency, familiarly called Kaum, is often used by couples who will carry out marriage. The task of the people is to assist in the administration of marriage registration at the local KUA, but since the issuance of the Instruction of Bimas Islam in 2015 the people through the instruction were dismissed from their status as P3N, interestingly although the status of the people formally has now been deactivated legally so that the existence and function of the people as PPN assistants have been removed, but in fact there are still many who use the services of the people until now, especially in the Bener District area. The purpose of this study is to examine and analyze the urgency and existence of the kaum in the marriage registration perspective of structural functionalism theory. This research is field-based (Field Research) with an empirical sociological approach method, while the data source comes from primary data, namely observation and interviews, while secondary data comes from books, articles and various references relevant to the above topic. The results of this study found that couples who register marriages at the KUA of Bener Subdistrict give trust to the people to take care of all the administration needed by the KUA, besides that the people also often become witnesses from the bride's side, host, and even remarks. In the social analysis of AGIL theory, namely adaptation, goal attainment, integration and latency. The function of adaptation is in the form of the adaptation commitment of the kaum in maintaining the mandate to the community and the government, the function of achieving goals is in the form of helping the community because the kaum play a lot of roles in the marriage process such as recording marriages, being witnesses, being mc and or remarks. The village government and KUA are also helped by the existence of kaum who try to get every married couple to register their marriage with the state. The function of integration is the formation of unwritten rules regarding the cost of kaum services, and the kaum can adjust to the poor community. The latency function is in the form of kaum strengthening synergy and good communication patterns to the Ministry of Religious Affairs/KUA, village government, and the community.
