Abstract

Instruments have become an essential part of conducting a study or research. With the aid of instruments, the measurement process can be faster, more efficient, and more accurate. However, an instrument also has a limited service life. Over time, the performance of the instrument will degrade. Therefore, the equipment must be regularly maintained and calibrated periodically. This research aims to test the measurement consistency of a low-cost seismometer (RS-3D). The approach involves long-term measurements to assess the instrument's stability in taking measurements. The measurement data is then processed and presented as frequencies using spectrum analysis. The research findings indicate that the instrument's consistency is generally good, with an average standard deviation of 0.18 and a coefficient of variation of 5%. Additionally, 95% confidence interval calculations yielded values of 2.520.02 for measurements at RKD, 3.040.05 for measurements at GLT-USK, and 3.30.04 for measurements at GFT-USK. Data validation was performed using the equations from building codes, showing that the difference between the measured microtremor frequency and the empirical equation was less than 1, indicating good measurement results. The conclusion drawn from this study is that a higher standard deviation value indicates a more distributed data spread, signifying less consistent research data. Conversely, a lower standard deviation indicates that the data is more concentrated around the mean value, indicating more consistent measurement results. Moreover, with previous studies having conducted validation and consistency testing, it is hoped that both tests will be routinely performed during instrument maintenance.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

The Peunayong area holds significant historical value in the development of Banda Aceh. Initially, this area functioned as a trade center before transforming into a Chinatown during the Dutch colonial era, reflecting its cultural diversity. After the 2004 tsunami, Peunayong was designated as a historic district due to the numerous late 19th to 20th-century buildings featuring a blend of Chinese, European, and local architectural styles. However, this cultural heritage is threatened by rapid urban development, necessitating a long-term management policy. This study aims to identify the development of Peunayong across the sultanate, colonial, and independence periods using a qualitative descriptive method. The research utilizes six area maps from 1646 to 2023, representing the evolution of each period. The analysis focuses on land use, circulation systems, as well as building mass and form. The findings reveal both changes and enduring aspects, along with their dynamics, which can serve as a foundation for conservation planning. The maps indicate that Peunayong has maintained clear physical boundaries since early on. The persistent land-use aspects include ports, military functions, commercial areas, and residential zones. The circulation system has undergone significant changes, transitioning from a water-based to a land-based system, while building mass and form have gradually densified, shaping Peunayong's present-day character. Certain elements identified in the old maps can be strategically reinforced or reintroduced for historical education and to strengthen the area's identity, such as revitalizing residential and water transportation functions and interpreting the narratives of the railway line and Gadjah Island as inspirations for planning Peunayong’s historic district.

Abstract

Sabang City has undergone ongoing development and changes in spatial patterns, leading to significant transformations in land use and land cover (LULC), particularly a reduction in vegetation and forest areas. These changes have contributed to a rise in land surface temperatures (LST). This study analyzed the spatial and temporal impacts of these changes on LST and vegetation health using the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) based on Landsat 8 imagery data from 2013 and 2023. Over the decade, forest cover declined by 11.65% (2,639.96 ha), while agricultural and built-up areas increased by 15.82% and 5.57%, respectively. LST in built-up areas rose by 0.7C, while vegetated areas experienced a 1.1C temperature decrease, highlighting the role of vegetation in local climate regulation. NDVI analysis revealed a 5% decrease in high-density vegetation areas and an increase in low vegetation zones, supporting a negative correlation between NDVI and LST. Areas with less vegetation exhibited higher temperatures. These findings emphasize the need to integrate vegetation and surface temperature indicators into spatial planning. Preserving vegetative cover is essential for mitigating climate risks such as drought and forest fires. This study provides evidence-based guidance for sustainable development and disaster risk reduction in small island cities like Sabang.
