Abstract

As human undoubtedly plays a role in today’s environmental problems, human inarguably must take control in overcoming them. Therefore, understanding how we can support the students in developing the ability to make environmentally friendly decisions is an essential part of an educational program. In this article, we evaluated the state and the role of metacognitive awareness as a factor that might affect junior high schools students in making a decision concerning environmental pollution, mainly the use of plastics in their everyday life.

Abstract

Abstrak: Kemampuan metakognitif dinilai berpengaruh terhadap bagaimana peserta didik dapat belajar secara mandiri untuk memperoleh prestasi akademik. Untuk itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengukur bagaimana pembelajaran berbasis proyek dapat meningkatkan kemampuan metakognitif peserta didik dan mengidentifikasi kesadaran metakognitif peserta didik dalam pembelajaran. Data dalam penelitian ini dikumpulkan melalui pretest, posttest, observasi, dan angket kesadaran metakognitif. Data-data tersebut dianalisis secara kuantitatif dan kualitatif untuk menghasilkan pemahaman yang lebih baik tentang masalah dan hasil penelitian. Hasilnya, kemampuan peserta didik dalam memecahkan masalah metakognitif mengalami peningkatan. Indeks Gain yang diperoleh dari rata-rata hasil belajar peserta didik adalah 0.7, yang berarti memiliki signifikansi peningkatan yang tinggi. Dijelaskan pula bahwa kemampuan metakognitif mereka berkembang dilihat dari perubahan kategori kemampuan mereka yang diobservasi selama pelaksanaan proyek. Kesadaran metakognitif peserta didik setelah pembelajaran berbasis proyek mulai tampak pada beberapa aspek, di antaranya strategi pencarian dan perencanaan.Abstract: Metacognitive abilities can influence how students learn independently to achieve academic success. For this reason, the study aimed to examine how project-based learning can enhance students’ metacognitive abilities and identify students’ metacognitive awareness. To understand those goals, three steps of data collection were done, including pre-test, post-test, observation, and questionnaires. Both quantitative and qualitative approaches were conducted to better understand the problem and the results. As a result, the ability of students to solve metacognitive problems has improved. The Gain index from the student learning process is 0.7, means it has a significant increase. It was also explained that their metacognitive abilities had developed judging by the changes in their ability categories that were observed during project implementation. Several aspects, including search strategy and planning, were evident in students' metacognitive awareness after project-based learning.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine the effect of a cooperative learning model on improving the understanding of mathematical concepts and fostering greater engagement in learning among fourth-grade students at SDN Gebang Raya 2, Tangerang Regency. The type of research used was quasi-experimental design. The study's population consists of 83 students with sample size of 56 students. The data analysis for this study involved the utilization of both the t-test and MANOVA test, facilitated by the SPSS 23.0 software for Windows. The hypothesis testing conducted in this study to assess the effect of the cooperative learning model on learning engagement yielded a p-value, or significance value, of 0.000 (p < 0.005). Additionally, when evaluating the influence of the cooperative learning model on both the comprehension of mathematical concepts and learning engagement, the resulting p-value was also 0.000 (p < 0.005). The conclusion of this study is that there is an effect of the cooperative learning model towards the student's understanding of mathematical concepts and their engagement in learning in Gebang Raya 2 Elementary School.

Abstract

This research is a development research that aims to find out the development media that can increase students' motivation and mastery of concepts. The research method used is the development method with the ADDIE design. The instruments used in this study were observation, questionnaires and tests. The results of data analysis for motivation increased from 51.58% before use to 84.36%. The average result of students' mastery of the concept pretest 69.50 and after use 81.5. The conclusion from the research is that media development can increase students' motivation and mastery of concepts.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to analyze the influence of student peer-to-peer tutoring model and the level of learning motivation concerning the comprehension of the concept of circle circumference among the sixth-grade students. This study employs a quasi-experimental research design, specifically incorporating pre-test and pos-test assessments. The study's population consists of 107 students, with a sample size of 72 students selected through the utilization of a cluster random sampling technique. The study's instrument uses a form of questionnare and tests. The data analysis for this study involved the utilization of two-way-ANOVA using SPSS 23.0 software for Windows. The conclusions are; (1) A notable influence exists when employing the peer-to-peer tutoring model in enhancing students' comprehension of circle circumferences among sixth-grade students. (2) A distinct impact emerges from students' learning motivation on their grasp of circle circumference comprehension in the sixth-grade. (3) Significant influences are discerned from both the implementation of the peer-to-peer tutoring model and the level of learning motivation, collectively affecting the comprehension of circle circumference among sixth-grade students.

Abstract

The research method used is quasy experiment and 2x2 factorial design. The research sample was 82 students at SDN Sumampir. The instruments used are questionnaires and tests. The data analysis used is a two-way Anova test. The conclusions from this study are (1) there is an influence between student learning outcomes with the learning of the video-assisted discussion method and the poster-assisted discussion method; (2) there is an influence between students' learning motivation with the video-assisted discussion method and poster-assisted discussion method; 3) For students who have high motivation, their learning outcomes will be higher if taught using the video-assisted discussion method compared to the poster-assisted discussion method; (4) For students who have low motivation, their learning outcomes will not be higher if they are taught using the poster-assisted discussion method compared to the video-assisted discussion method; (5) There is an interaction effect between media and learning motivation on student learning outcomes.

Abstract

Critical thinking skills are important to master in facing global competition. Biology learning in class must be oriented to improving critical thinking skills. Environmental change material is biology material that requires students to think critically in responding to environmental problems. One way to improve critical thinking skills is to use POE learning strategies that able to train students to be critical of problem. This research aims to provide an overview of students' critical thinking abilities on environmental change material which is improved through the POE learning strategy. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method with the data used in analyzing the data from observations, teacher teaching modules, student responses, student worksheet answers, and interviews. The results of this research provide an overview of several shortcomings in implementing POE learning strategies in environmental change material so that students' critical thinking abilities are still low. These shortcomings include the observation stage which was not carried out optimally, the student worksheet stage did not train critical thinking skills, the environmental problem topic was too big, the learning allocation was not good, and the teacher's involvement in guiding students was still lacking.  With this research, a picture of the implementation of POE learning strategies in biology learning can be seen clearly so it is hoped that it can become good initial research for future research.Abstrak. Kemampuan berpikir kritis penting untuk dikuasai dalam menghadapi persaingan global. Pembelajaran biologi di kelas harus berorientasi untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis. Materi perubahan lingkungan merupakan materi biologi yang menuntut siswa untuk berpikir kriris dalam menanggapi permasalahan lingkungan. Salah satu cara meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis adalah dengan menggunakan strategi pembelajaran POE  yang mampu melatihkan siswa kritis terhadap objek permasalahan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk  memberikan gambaran kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa pada materi perubahan lingkungan yang ditingkatkan melalui strategi pembelajaran POE. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan data yang digunakan dalam menganalisis adalah data hasil observasi, modul ajar guru, respon siswa, jawaban lembar kerja siswa, dan wawancara. Hasil penelitian ini memberikan gambaran tentang beberapa kekurangan dalam pelaksanaan strategi pembelajaran POE pada materi prubahan lingkungan sehingga kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa masih rendah. Kekurangan tersebut diantaranya adalah tahapan observe yang dilakukan tidak secara optimal dilakukan, tahapan lembar kerja siswa yang tidak melatihkan kemampuan berpikir kritis, topik permasalahan lingkungan yang terlalu besar, alokasi pembelajaran yang kurang baik, dan keterlibatan guru dalam membimbing siswa masih kurang.  Dengan adanya penelitian ini, gambaran pelaksanaan strategi pembelajaran POE dalam pembelajaran biologi dapat terlihat jelas sehingga diharapkan mampu menjadi penelitian awal yang baik bagi penelitian-penelitian yang akan datang.

Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the level of plant blindness in three schools in West Java. This study was also conducted with the aim of looking at the differences in the level of plant blindness as well as the relationship between the tests and questionnaires given to students. As a follow-up, this study discusses alternative solutions to the problems that arise in the three schools. The population of this study was three schools in West Java, namely one school in Bandung City, West Bandung Regency, and Indramayu Regency. From the population, one class was taken using Convenience sampling technique. The research method used was descriptive cross-sectional method. The data that has been obtained is then processed using descriptive and inferential statistics to see the differences and relationships. The results showed a significant difference between the three schools. The results also showed a positive relationship between the test results and the plant awareness questionnaire. This shows that students who have high plant awareness have high knowledge as well. The alternative solution proposed in this study is the use of eDNA Metabarcoding research as a practicum to study biodiversity, considering that eDNA can identify plant species specifically and accurately.

Abstract

Computational thinking is one of the skills needed to support 21st-century skills, especially in science education, such as conservation biology. This study aims to analyze the increase in CT in conservation biology lectures, especially the topic of conservation threats. The lectures given are based on PBL-SSI. This study is a quantitative study with a quasi-experimental method. The research design used is a one-group pretest and posttest. The instrument used is a multiple-choice test with 15 questions containing indicators of computational thinking. The thinking indicators used consist of algorithms, decomposition, abstraction, and pattern recognition. The results show that PBL-SSI can significantly improve computational thinking skills with the decomposition indicator as the indicator that shows the most improvement

Abstract

Academic burnout is a common issue among boarding school students due to demanding routines and high academic pressure, particularly in Biology classes, which involve many abstract concepts. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of using LiveWorksheet and instructional videos in reducing the level of academic burnout among boarding school students. A one-group pre–post test design with two post-intervention measurements was employed. The sample consisted of senior high school boarding students who participated in Biology learning activities using a combination of LiveWorksheet and instructional videos. Data were collected using an academic burnout instrument and analyzed with paired sample t-tests. The results showed a decrease in burnout scores from a mean of 31.67 before the intervention to 25.37 in the first post-test (p = 0.005) and 25.83 in the second post-test (p = 0.007). These findings indicate that the combination of LiveWorksheet and instructional videos effectively reduced burnout by enhancing learning engagement, lowering cognitive load, and strengthening self-efficacy. Further research is recommended to use a control group design and long-term measurements to examine the sustainability of the intervention’s effects.
