Abstract

Mining activities have caused damage to ecosystems in coastal areas and disruption of fishing activities. This study aims to determine the dynamics of fishing activities, income levels, and adaptation strategies of Batuawu Village fishermen due to mining activities. Respondents were taken using the census method, as many as 18 Fishing Households (RTP). The data were analyzed using quantitative descriptive analysis. The results showed that fishing activities were generally carried out by "one day fishing". In the peak season, the average fishing trip is 15 days/month, while in the lean season it is 5 to 10 trips/month. The average boat size is smaller than 2 GT, equipped with engines between 5.5 PK and 16 PK. Mining activities have caused turbidity and decreased water quality, which has contributed to a decrease in fishermen's catches. The farthest fishing grounds are around the South Buton border of "Kokoe", and the closest around Sagori Island. Most fishers accessing the more distant fishing grounds use bottom longlines and arrows to catch demersal fish with high economic value. The presence of mining activities also affects the increase in demand for consumable fish, especially for company needs, so that fish prices become more expensive. On the other hand, these conditions have a negative impact on local communities, especially low-income communities. The income of fishermen in Batuawu Village is Rp3,380,307 per month or still above the Bombana Regency Minimum Wage (UMK). Adaptation strategies carried out by fishermen in order to deal with the decline in coastal environmental conditions are to change fishing gear and fishing locations, to catch demersal fish that have higher economic value.

Abstract

This research aims to: (1) determine the feasibility of the crab fishing business in Bungin Permai Village, (2) to determine the sensitivity of the financial analysis model for crab fishing businesses based on changes in selling prices due to inflation. The research was conducted in July 2023. This research used the slovin technique with a total of 10 fishermen as respondents. The data analysis used was NVP, IRR, RCR, and sensitivity analysis. The research results showed that (1) the crab fishing business in Bungin Permai Village could be developed and it was feasible to continue because of the results of the feasibility analysis the business NPV value was IDR 83,363,842 (>0), the IRR was 74%, and the profit from the RCR was 52% . (2) based on the results of the sensitivity analysis model test with the scenario of an increase in the price of crab material, it was said that it was still feasible when the increase is 3.61% and 1.62%, whereas when the price of crab material increases by 50%, the business was not worth continuing and the selling price decreases. Crab crabs are said to still be viable when the selling price of crabs falls and price inflation remains at 3.61% and 1.62%, whereas when the selling price decreases by 35% the business was no longer worth continuing or continuing.

Abstract

Milkfish is a widely cultured species in brackish ponds at Towua Village, Kolaka Regency, South East Sulawesi.  The farming of this species currently uses both organic and inorganic fertilizers in ponds to facilitate algae blooms as natural feed for milkfish.  However, the economic feasibility of those fertilizers in farming practices is unknown.  Therefore, this study aims to determine the feasibility of a milkfish farming using organic and inorganic fertilizers. The research was conducted from December 2019 to January 2020. This research used a case study method in one farm owned by local farmer. Data obtained through interviews, observation and documentation. The data analysis was conducted using the formula of cost, revenue, profit, and R/C ratio. The results showed that the R/C ratio for milkfish farming using organic fertilizers was 1.91 whereas the R /C ratio for inorganic fertilizers was 2.06. This study indicated that milkfish farming using inorganic fertilizers was more feasible than that of organic fertilizers.  Therefore, farmers may use inorganic instead of organic fertilizers in their milkfish farms
