Abstract

The creativity of students in Indonesia is still low compared to other countries. The low of biological creativity is caused by the use of less constructivist learning methods or models. This research was conducted to determine and describe the effect of project based learning on student creativity on environmental pollution material at MAN Model, Banda Aceh. This study used a quantitative descriptive approach with a quasi-experimental design through a one shot case study design. The population in this study were all students of class X MAN Model Banda Aceh with samples taken were students of class X IPA 2. The sample selection used purposive sampling technique. Moreover, the collecting data in this study used a creativity assessment observation sheet. Meanwhile, data processing applied a one-sample t-test statistic (one sample t-test). Based on the results of the t test, it is found that tcount = 50.08 and ttable = 2.04, so tcount (50.08) ttable (2.04). This shows that if tcount ttable, then Ha = accepted, whereas if tcount ttable, then H0 = accepted. Significant levels are ? = 0.05 and dk (n-1). Therefore, because tcount ttable, then Ha is accepted. In conclusion, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) which states that Project Based Learning affects students creativity in environmental pollution material is accepted.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the anatomical variations of leaves from five local medicinal plant species and evaluate their potential use as microscopy-based learning media rooted in local wisdom. Microscopic observations were conducted on the leaves of Piper betle, Cymbopogon citratus, Curcuma longa, Aloe vera, and Ocimum sanctum using fresh-section preparations and quantitative measurements of anatomical parameters, including epidermal thickness, mesophyll thickness, stomatal density, trichome characteristics, stomatal type, palisade–spongy ratio, xylem diameter, and vein density. The results revealed clear interspecific anatomical differences, such as variations in palisade structure, presence of secretory ducts, mucilaginous cells, and glandular trichomes that provide strong visual contrast for microscopic learning. These characteristics support the feasibility of using local plant species as accessible, contextually relevant, and effective learning media to enhance students’ understanding of plant anatomy concepts. The study concludes that local medicinal plants possess strong potential to be developed as authentic microscopy learning resources. Further research is recommended to expand the number of species examined, incorporate supporting physiological analyses, and develop ready-to-use instructional modules for educators.

Abstract

Smoking behavior among adolescents is a health problem that may cause long-term impacts on both active and passive smokers. This community service activity aimed to improve students’ understanding and awareness of the dangers of cigarette smoke through an educational approach combined with a simple demonstration. The activity was conducted at SMP Negeri 14 Banda Aceh involving seventh and eighth grade students. The methods included interactive lectures on harmful chemical substances in cigarettes and their effects on the respiratory system, as well as a lung model demonstration to visualize the process of smoke inhalation and the accumulation of hazardous residues. The results showed that students’ knowledge of the dangers of smoking increased, they were able to identify harmful chemical components in cigarettes, and they demonstrated more critical attitudes toward smoking behavior and exposure to secondhand smoke. The visual demonstration helped students understand the concepts more concretely and fostered early preventive awareness. It can be concluded that this activity was effective as an experience-based health education model to support the development of a young generation who are aware of the importance of living free from cigarette smoke.
