Abstract

The digital and multimodal literacy process of early childhood at TK Santa Maria and PAUD Sabilal Muhtadin Banjarmasin is carried out through watching educational films such as the Prophet's story, introducing themes, motor and art activities through the media of projectors, cellphones, laptops, and computers. These activities increase children's interest in the learning process, children establish verbal language with non-verbal modes such as gestures and facial expressions to express meaning in their interactions with others. Digital and multimodal literacy activities carried out so far are by using a display through a projector to introduce themes, sometimes children use television in the free room to watch such as religious films, exercise or dance activities and listen to songs to children. A multimodal approach to optimal literacy and collaboration with parents can provide games, and other communicative modes (gestures, movement, music, etc.).

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the Montessori method in improving understanding of mathematical concepts for early childhood especially ages 4-6 years in the city of Banjarmasin. This study uses a quasi-experimental method. Introduction to mathematics in the experimental class uses the Montessori method, while the control class uses conventional methods. Hypothesis test results show that the implementation of the Montessori method has significant effects in improving children's learning outcomes in data and graphic material in the experimental class. The average value of N-Gain in the experimental class was 95.61. The average value of the N-Gain control class is 34.56. The Montessori method is 61.05% more effective in improving children's learning outcomes in material data and graphics than the conventional method. Similar to the results of hypothesis testing on the ABCDE-ABCDE pattern material, the implementation of the Montessori method has a significant effect on improving the learning outcomes of children in the experimental class. The average N-Gain of the experimental class is 87.50. The average value of the control class N-Gain is 31.24. The Montessori Method 56.26% is more effective in improving children's learning outcomes on material patterns than conventional methods.

Abstract

This article explores the impact of Baby blues on the emotional well-being of young children, focusing on how this condition affects emotional attachment and the quality of interaction between mother and child. Baby blues is a common condition experienced by mothers postpartum and can negatively influence family dynamics, particularly in child-rearing. This study occupies a significant position in the discourse of child developmental psychology by highlighting the often-overlooked emotional impact of Baby blues on children. Using a qualitative method with in-depth interviews of ten mothers who experienced Baby blues, this research employs attachment theory to analyze the collected data. The findings reveal that children of mothers with Baby blues tend to experience emotional issues such as anxiety, insecurity, and stress, which correlate with decreased interaction quality and emotional distance between mother and child. The conclusion of this study underscores the importance of early intervention and strong social support for mothers experiencing Baby blues, as well as the development of holistic strategies to minimize the negative impact on the emotional well-being of children. These findings contribute significantly to the development of policies and interventions aimed at supporting the emotional well-being of young children in families affected by Baby blues. Abstract

Teachers have abilities that play an important role in carrying out their duties, and their level of competence often determines the success of education. In an effort to meet competency standards, teachers are expected to have the knowledge and skills appropriate to their field. However, there are still gaps in this regard, especially in aspects such as pedagogic, professional, personal and social competencies. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate the competencies of PAUD teachers who are not S1 PAUD education graduates in two institutions in Banjarmasin City, as well as identify factors that influence their competencies. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collection through observation, interviews and documentation. The results showed that some teachers still face difficulties in preparing lesson plans independently, which has an impact on the monotony of the learning process. In addition, there are teachers who have not fully fulfilled aspects of social competence.

Abstract

Inclusive early childhood education (ECED) ensures all children, including those with special needs, have access to a safe learning environment. This study examines the implementation of safety policies in inclusive ECED institutions in Banjarmasin and Banjarbaru using a phenomenological approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, document analysis, and observations, following stages of participant selection, interviews, transcription, coding, theme development, and interpretation. Findings indicate that while safety policies are implemented, challenges remain in infrastructure, teacher training, and community awareness. Limited resources, inadequate facilities, and low parental understanding hinder inclusivity. However, teacher training and policy adaptation have improved inclusive practices. To enhance implementation, stronger government support is needed in funding, regulations, and public awareness. Key recommendations include (1) allocating budgets for inclusive infrastructure, (2) mandating specialized teacher training, (3) integrating community engagement programs, and (4) establishing monitoring mechanisms. These measures can create a more inclusive and supportive learning environment.

Abstract

Early numeracy learning in Indonesian early childhood education often lacks cultural and daily life connections. This study explores how wadai lempeng pisang (Banjar-style banana pancake) can be used as a culturally responsive medium for numeracy development. A qualitative descriptive approach was applied through classroom observation, teacher and parent interviews, and documentation in a kindergarten in South Kalimantan. Data were analyzed using Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña’s interactive model with triangulation for validity. Findings show that the cooking activity naturally fostered counting, measuring, sequencing, comparing, and problem-solving. For example, children counted bananas, measured sugar with spoons, sequenced cooking steps, and adjusted dough consistency—developing both symbolic and practical mathematical skills. This activity also enhanced engagement, inclusivity, and cultural identity, as children related the experience to their home practices. The study concludes that integrating local culinary traditions into numeracy learning provides meaningful, hands-on experiences that support both cognitive and affective development. It offers an adaptive pedagogical model for early childhood education, especially in culturally rich regions.

Abstract

This research employs a qualitative phenomenological approach to investigate the occurrence of tantrums in early childhood as a result of restrictive media mediation. The study involved 24 lecturers who had children aged 2-6 years exhibiting tantrums. Expressions of tantrums included crying, screaming, throwing objects, holding one's breath, kicking and hitting, rolling, and shouting. Lack of communication before taking away the smartphone when the child is tired, suddenly removing the smartphone when the child is engrossed in using it, and drowsiness serve as triggers for tantrums. Initial parental reactions ranged from confusion to ensuring a safe environment around the child. These responses sometimes involved coercion or physical punishment. Dealing with tantrums proved to be the primary factor influencing parental self-confidence. Weekly tantrums typically lasted for 3–10 minutes and could extend to 8–10 minutes with cooling-down periods. Strategies for handling tantrums included diverting attention, creating a secure environment, meeting the child's needs, ignoring certain behaviors, enforcing consistent rules, providing comfort, and managing one's emotions. Support from family members, behavior management of children, varied distraction activities, open communication, and external support were contributing factors in managing tantrums. Authoritarian parenting patterns, negative peer influences, emotional instability in children, busy parents, poor digital behavior, and financial constraints were inhibiting factors. This study underscores the complexity of addressing tantrums in a context of restrictive media mediation and emphasizes the importance of implementing effective coping mechanisms, enforcing consistent digital discipline, fostering active parent-child communication, and building strong support systems in parenting.
