Abstract

Most of the problems that arise indicate lack of motivation of grade 1 students of the Ashhabul Yamin Islamic boarding school.For example, most students are not interested in learning English, less motivational words from the teacher.Many students do not complete their homework at home and also many students think English is a difficult subject because they don't have anyone to support them directly including their classmates. This study aims to determine whether there is a relationship between student motivation and student academic achievement in learning English. This research is a correlational research. Total population is 44 students, the sample is 26 students. Researchers used purposive sampling on determine the sample in this study. To collect data, researchers use questionnaire and documentation. To analyze the data collected, researchers useSpearman's Rating Correlation Coefficient (and to test the hypothesis,the researcher uses the t-test formula and consults the results into the t-table with = 0.05. The finding of the research revealed that the coefficient of correlation ( was -0.115. It means, there is no correlation between extrinsic motivation and students’ academic achievement in studying English. In the other words, based on hypothesis testing, the t- score was -0.114 whereas t-table on = 0,05 was 0.404. It means, the tscore was smaller than the t-table. Hence, Ha rejected and Ho accepted, which stated that there is no significant correlation between students motivation and students’ achievement in studying English.

Abstract

This research looked at how the RAFT technique affected the ninth-grade pupils at SMP Jam'iyyatul Hujjaj's capacity to write greeting cards. The research was motivated by the pupils' struggles with writing in their English language studies. This study used a pre-experimental design with a single group undergoing both pre- and post-test design classes. The 26 students enrolled in the ninth grade at SMP Jam'iyyatul Hujjaj Bukittinggi made up the research population. The sample utilized in this study was obtained using complete sampling. Writing tests served as the research tool in this study. The paired sample t-test in SPSS 22 was used to evaluate the data. According to the research's findings, there was a noticeable difference in students' capacity to write greeting cards between classes that used the RAFT technique and those who did not. As can be seen, the result obtained (5.451>2.060) is greater than the value in the table. Based on the statistics, it can be inferred that the RAFT technique significantly improved the writer's capacity to write greeting cards.

Abstract

This research was due to the problems that were found in MTsN 13 AGAM. The first some of students did not know how to differentiate the countable and uncountable nouns. The second, some of students felt reluctant to write in English. The third, some of students had limited vocabulary. Furthermore,  this research is aimed to find out how was the student’s ability on countable and uncountable nouns in writing descriptive text of MTsN 13 Agam. The researcher used quantitative research. The population in this research was MTsN 13 Agam. There were four classes for the ninth grade students in MTsN 13 Agam. the total population was 105 students from class nine of MTSN 13 Agam. The researcher used cluster random sampling in choosing the sample. The total sample of this study was 24 students. The instrument that use for this research was written test. The researcher gave the students 45 minutes time, and the researcher ordered the students to write a descriptive text. In conclusion, this research has provided valuable insights into the students' ability in using countable and uncountable nouns in writing descriptive texts. The findings showed that the students have a relatively good proficiency in this aspect. Based on the data above, it can be concluded that the majority of the students have good to excellent ability in using countable nouns where 23 students can use at least 3 countable nouns in their writing and only one of them that cannot use any countable noun. However, the same cannot be said for uncountable nouns as there are more students who scored poorly in this area where the total of 13 students got the score between 0-40 which categorized as poor. This could be due to various reasons such as lack of exposure to English as a language, limited.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui nilai kesalehan sosial dalam film Karate Kid. Peneliti memilih film Karate Kid karena film tersebut mengangkat tema-tema yang berkaitan dengan bullying yang selalu membahagiakan siswa di sekolah. Hal ini relevan dengan masyarakat saat ini karena nilai-nilai kesalehan sosial yang diidentifikasi dalam film tersebut, seperti empati, kebaikan, dan rasa hormat terhadap orang lain, merupakan nilai-nilai penting yang dapat membantu memerangi intimidasi dan mendorong perilaku positif di sekolah dan masyarakat. Masalah penelitian adalah apa sajakah nilai-nilai kesalehan sosial dalam film Karate Kid?. Dalam penelitian tersebut, peneliti menggunakan penelitian kualitatif melalui pendekatan penelitian deskriptif. Checklist observasi digunakan sebagai instrumen untuk mendapatkan analisis mendalam tentang kesalehan sosial. Ada delapan indikator kesalehan sosial, yaitu: cinta dan perhatian, berbuat baik, hormat, keadilan, persaudaraan, keberanian membela kebenaran, membantu dan mendukung, dan diskusi. Pengumpulan data diambil dari seluruh film Karate Kid yang difokuskan pada dialog, naskah dan adegan dalam film Karate Kid yang digunakan untuk menganalisis film tersebut. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, delapan indikator kesalehan sosial dimasukkan ke dalam film. Ada tiga adegan yang berhubungan dengan cinta dan perhatian. Dua adegan lainnya terkait dengan melakukan perbuatan baik dan membantu/mendukung. Ada empat adegan yang terkait dengan keadilan. Ada satu adegan yang berhubungan dengan persaudaraan dan keberanian membela kebenaran. Dua adegan lainnya terkait dengan diskusi. Kesimpulannya, meskipun film ini bertemakan bullying, namun film ini menyampaikan pesan tentang nilai-nilai kebaikan, termasuk pentingnya kesalehan sosial.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the problems of students of the English education study program at UIN Sjech M. Djamil Djambek Bukittinggi. Some students pronounce the dental fricative sound in various ways. First, some students pronounce the sound /?/ correctly, however, there are also some students pronounce the sound /?/ by replacing it with the sound /t/. Second, some students pronounce the sound /ð/ correctly, however, there are also some students pronounce the sound /ð/ by replacing it with the sound /d/. The researcher's question in this study was how students pronounce the dental fricatives sound at the initial, medial and final position of a word based on the PRAAT application. The purpose of this study was to analyze the way students pronounce the dental fricative sound at the initial, middle and final of a word based on the PRAAT application. This study uses a qualitative research method with seventh semester students as the research population. The research sample amounted to 13. Data was collected through audio recordings. Students are asked to pronounce 12 words that contain the sound of dental fricative sound. The sound is uploaded to the PRAAT software. The results showed that some of the students pronounce the dental fricative sound correctly, showed by a spectogram display like a scribble pattern in the focus phoneme. others pronounce the dental fricative sound incorrectly, showed by an empty area on spectrogram in the focus phoneme. It showed that they replaced the phoneme with another phoneme such as /t/ or /d/. Researchers can conclude as follows. First, some students pronounce the dental fricative sound correctly. Second, most of the students pronounce the dental fricative sound incorrectly.

Abstract

The research conducted this research because researcher found several problems in the process of learning English. Those problems were related with learning English and also related through observation in the class at Islamic Senior High School 1 Pasaman. The first is the teacher still used teacher centered teaching. The second is many of the students has limited vocabulary. The third is most of students get difficulties to express their idea. The last is some of the students that is unable to speak English Fluently. In this case, this research was going to find out whether there was a significant effect of Retelling Story on students’ speaking ability in the eleventh grade of Islamic Senior High School 1 Pasaman. This research used quantitative research with quasi-experimental research as the design by using pre-test and post-test for acquiring the research data. The subject of this research were two classes were F.2 (XI IAI) as experiment class and F.3 (XI IPA) control class that consist of 61 students. The data was gotten from the students’ speaking test that were given before and after the treatment. After calculating the data, it was found that the mean score of pretest in experimental class was 50.00 and the post test was 90.00. it means that Retelling Story had a significant effect on students’ speaking ability in eleventh grade of Islamic Senior High School 1 Pasaman.
