Abstract

The National Examination in Indonesia, which began in 2015, was no longer a determinant of student graduation at the end of the education level. Utilization of the examination results will affect the seriousness of the students in working on it. This study aims to describe the level of seriousness of 12th grade students in working on National   Examinations, when it no longer a determinant of graduation by examining teachers and school principals’ point of view. This research is a qualitative study by using the phenomenology approach. Data was collected using focus group discussions (FGD) conducted 3 times in 3 provinces in Indonesia, consisted of Yogyakarta, South Kalimantan and East Nusa Tenggara. FGD participants were 9 high school principals, 9 vice principal of curriculum, and 54 teachers who teach subjects that are tested on national exam. In each province, three schools were selected, consisted of   two public schools, and one private school. Data were analyzed using data reduction stages, to find relationships between themes, and verification. The results showed that the motivation of 12th grade students in preparing National Examination were reduced.  They no longer focused on preparing the exams, otherwise they preparing themselves for higher education.  Furthermore, students tended to select subjects that were easier and the teacher should motivate students harder to prepare for the National Examination.

Abstract

Student readiness for using computer-based assessment was affected by economic level, school grade, and device accessibility. This study analyzed student readiness using a computer-based assessment, the four-tier diagnostic test (CBFTDT). The data in this study were students' responses to a questionnaire consisting of 16 statements about three aspects: mental access, skill access, and usage. The questionnaire consists of 16 statements with three aspects: items, media, and effectivity. The questionnaire was proved valid by experts and its estimated reliability score was 0.99. This study proved that the Student is still not ready to use the computer-based assessment, with an average readiness of 60%. In addition, there is no effect of economic level, school grade, and device accessibility on the readiness for using the computer-based assessment. Hence, the treatment of all stockholders is needed to prepare students to use the computer-based assessment.

Abstract

Abstract

Technological developments encourage students to adapt and must be able to control technology with digital literacy. Critical pedagogy understanding can be the basis for students in developing pedagogy mindsets and skills. The purpose of this study is to explore how digital literacy influences students' critical pedagogy understanding. The method in this research uses an exploration method with a quantitative approach. The sample in this study is a student at one of the universities in West Java. The instrument used is a questionnaire instrument containing students' digital literacy and a test instrument containing students' critical pedagogical abilities. The instruments used have gone through expert validation. The analysis in this study uses SEM (Structural Equation Modeling) which can provide information about the effect of a variable with a complex model. The results of the analysis show that digital literacy has a significant influence on students' critical pedagogical understanding abilities. The influence is represented by the dimensions of access, evaluate and share. Although the results of the study show a positive value, there needs to be an in-depth study of how these dimensions can have an effect.

Abstract

Using descriptive statistical methods and multiple linear regression, the study examines the correlation between literacy and numeracy assessment results and various SES and gender variables. Data were obtained from the PSPK Independent Literacy and Numeracy Measurement Assessment (PEMANTIK), covering 20,523 children across 21 provinces and 79 districts/cities. The findings indicate that parental education and occupation, particularly the father’s, significantly affect children's literacy and numeracy skills. Furthermore, boys tend to have higher numeracy skills, while girls outperform boys in literacy at the primary school level. This study highlights the importance of tailored interventions based on SES and gender backgrounds, particularly in primary education, to enhance children's literacy and numeracy skills as the foundation for their future education.

Abstract

A good test instrument is required to measure students’ academic abilities. For final-year students, this ability is measured by USBN tests. This study aimed to analyses the characteristics of biology test items in the National Standardized School Examination (USBN) and analyses item tests categorized as difficult and poor. Type of study was descriptive exploratory with quantitative and qualitative approaches. Quantitative data analysis was performed using the classical test and item response theories with 1 logistic parameter model. Qualitative data analysis described why such question items are categorized as difficult and poor according to the classical test theory. The data were collected by using documentation of the answers of 193 students. The study results show that, according the classical test theory, Biology USBN item tests had the average difficulty index of 0.525 (moderate category) and the average of discrimination index obtained is equal to 0.124 (good category). Based on the item response theory, the mean difficulty index was -0.00029 (moderate category). The reliability test estimation result was 0.51, categorized as moderate. The qualitative analysis result showed that items categorized as difficult are the food web in the ecosystem, nervous system, and human excretion system.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the characteristics of Indonesian language test used in the national standardized school examinations (Ujian Sekolah Berstandar Nasional, USBN). We used the response data of 218 students from a public senior high school in the Special Region of Yogyakarta, Indonesia, to the test consisting of two packages, A and B, in the 2018/2019 academic year to investigate the characteristics of the test and its items. Quantitative analysis using classical test theory (CTT) and one-parameter logistic item response theory (1-PL IRT) model was conducted to investigate the characteristics of the test and its items based on difficulty and discriminating power. The results of the study under the CTT showed that most test items in both package A and package B have difficulty in the easy category and the portion of items in the difficult category is no more than 10%. In addition, while the majority of test items in both test packages demonstrated good discriminating power, package B contained a high number of items with poor discriminating power (47.5%). Under 1-PL IRT, our study results indicated the dominance of items with difficulty level in the moderate category in both test packages. In addition to revealing the difficulty level of the test items, our study showed that the items in the difficult category under CTT and IRT were related to the topics of types of conjunction; spelling, grammar, and sentence structure; job application letter; and observation report text and its structure. The results of this study are expected to contribute to improving the quality of the Indonesian language test and the quality of learning on topics where students have difficulty based on test items in the difficult category.
