Abstract

ABSTRACT  The Mandalika Special Economic Zone, located in Central Lombok district, West Nusa Tenggara province, is expected to accelerate the tourism sector on the island of Lombok. The Mandalika KEK has potential and advantages that can be developed into an environmentally friendly tourism area. Tourist objects and tourist attractions are expected to always be oriented towards preserving environmental values and quality in society. This increase in the tourism sector will be followed by an increase in the food sector and beef cattle farming is one of them. This Community Service Activity was carried out on Sunday 13 August 2023 at the Reading Corner room managed by Karang Taruna, Pujut District, Central Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara Regency. Approximately 50 breeders around the location attended. This meeting also formed a Breeders Community called "ARMADA" which is an abbreviation of Airlangga-Mandalika, through this community the Community Service team will also provide sustainable guidance to beef cattle breeders. This technology transfer is also realized by the application of giving Dodol Temulawak which is able to increase the level of productivity of beef cattle because it has several benefits, apart from being able to eradicate worms, it can also increase the immune system of beef cattle. Based on the results of the implementation and the enthusiasm of the target community, it can be concluded that the implementation of the activity was able to increase the knowledge and skills of breeders in terms of handling disease cases and the use of Dodol Temulawak in the Mandalika Special Economic Zone area.  Keywords: Beef cattle; Curcuma; Mandalika; Youth organization   ABSTRAK Kawasan Ekonomi Khusus Mandalika terletak di kabupaten Lombok Tengah propinsi Nusa Tenggara Barat diharapkan dapat mengakselerasi sector Pariwisata di pulau Lombok. Abstract

Heat stress is a major environmental factor that disrupts reproductive function in poultry, primarily by triggering oxidative stress and inflammation in testicular tissue. This study evaluated the influence of Cucurbita moschata(pumpkin seed) extract in mitigating the adverse effect of heat stress in roosters testes by regulating key markers, heat shock protein 70 (HSP70) and interleukin-6 (IL-6).Twenty-five adult roosters, aged one year, were divided into five groups: a non-stressed control group, a heat-stressed group without treatment, and three heat-stressed groups treated orally with 1600, 3200, or 6400 mg/kg body weight of the extract for 21 consecutive days. Immunohistochemical analysis revealed that heat stress led to marked increases in HSP-70 and IL-6 expression in the testes, reflecting cellular stress and inflammatory responses. Notably, administration of Cucurbita moschataextract attenuated these responses in a dose-dependent manner, with the 3200 and 6400 mg/kg doses showing the most significant reduction in protein expression. These findings highlight the potential role of Cucurbita moschataas a natural therapeutic agent to protect male reproductive function under heat stress conditions through its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

Abstract

Background: Goats are widely raised due to their lower maintenance costs compared to cattle. The Etawa crossbreed is one of the most common goat breeds in Indonesia. Pizzle rot is a reproductive disorder in bucks characterized by inflammation and swelling of the penis and prepuce, often associated with dietary factors and secondary bacterial infection. Purpose: To describe the surgical treatment and postoperative management of pizzle rot in a buck. Case(s): A 1.5-year-old Etawa crossbreed buck was presented to the Veterinary Clinic with a history of anorexia and penile swelling. Clinical examination of the reproductive system revealed marked swelling of the penis and prepuce consistent with pizzle rot. Case Management: Surgical treatment was performed by excising the abscessed tissue and removing the urethral obstruction. The affected preputial area was opened, the abscess tissue was removed, and the urethral passage was cleared. Postoperative care included routine wound cleaning, medication administration, and regular monitoring of wound healing. Clinical improvement was observed within a few days after surgery, indicated by reduced swelling and improved urination. The healing process progressed well, and complete restoration of normal penile function was achieved within eight weeks. The buck regained the ability to protrude the penis and urinate normally without recurrence of swelling. Conclusion: Surgical excision of abscessed tissue combined with appropriate postoperative wound care was effective in treating pizzle rot in this buck. Early surgical intervention and proper postoperative management contributed to rapid clinical improvement and complete recovery of penile function.
