Abstract

Short stature is a health problem with long-term implications to the future of the children. Short stature condition in children below five years old, known as stunting, may cause cognitive, psychomotor impairment and interfere with productivity on adult period. Main concern in short stature is due to insufficient of dietary intake in long-term period. Parents’ role in the prevention of short stature is important, therefore, performing education to parents is a crucial task to the government, universities and communities to be done continuously. The objective of this educational counseling was to educate the parents so they would be able to comprehend the relationship of nutritional status to short stature, especially in children below five years old, and level of intelligence in order to prevent the condition of short stature in the future. This activity was held in conjunction with community service program Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat Dosen Wajib Mengabdi Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) 2019, by the lecturer team of Faculty of Medicine USU in elementary school Yayasan Pendidikan Al-Washliyah Tanjung Rejo, Medan. Educational counseling materials were modules and leaflets distributed to the parents. To evaluate the educational counseling, questionnaires were disposed prior to and after the lecture. The target audience was the parents of elementary school students, amount of 48 people. The results showed mean difference questionnaires’ score of 0.97 (SD 1.76) with 95%CI=0.46-1.49 and p value=0.001 (p<0.05). There was significant difference of parental knowledge to educational counseling material prior to and after the counseling. Concluded, parental knowledge regarding relationship of nutritional status to short stature and level of intelligence is significantly increased through the educational counseling.

Abstract

Background: Breast cancer is one of the cancers with the highest prevalence in Indonesia. According to GLOBOCAN data for 2020, the number of breast cancer cases reached 68,858 (16.6%) cases out of a total of 396,914 new cancer cases in Indonesia. There are many factors that can trigger cancer with different clinical manifestations and subtypes from one event to another, so researchers are interested in researching the profile of breast cancer patients with the HER2 subtype at H. Adam Malik General Hospital in 2020-2021.Objective: In the present study, we aim to determine the clinicopathological profile of Her2 positive (non-luminal) breast cancer subtype patients at Haji Adam Malik General Hospital from 2020-2021.Methods: The method used in this study is descriptive quantitative with total sampling technique. The data samples was obtained from medical records of breast cancer patient with her2 positive (non-luminal) subtype which was then sorted according to the availability of characteristic needed for this study. Results: majority of breast cancer patients with her2 positive (non-luminal) subtype at H Adam Malik General Hospital in 2020-2021 was within the age group of > 50 years, with all married status. the BMI of the majority of patients (68.6%) was normal weight, all respondent admit there was no family history diagnosed with cancer (100%), majority tumor size (52,9%) is >5 cm, with most patients having cancer metastasized to 1-3 lymph nodes (54,9%), distant metastases only in 39,2% of the total sample observed, majority (35,3%) histopathological degree is in grade 1 and grade 3 , the histopathological classification of the majority (86,3%) was IDC type. Conclusion: Overall there is diversity of frequencies within the observed clinicopathological characteristics.

Abstract

Since dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) can cause liver damage, aminotransferase levels as liver function test may be useful in predicting the severity of dengue hemorrhagic fever. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between transaminase enzyme levels and the severity of dengue hemorrhagic fever. This study used analytic observational approach with cross-sectional design. The data used was secondary data, namely medical records of H. Adam Malik Hospital and Hospital of Prof. Dr. Chairuddin P. Lubis University of North Sumatera. From a total of 65 patients included, there were 63.1% (41 patients) with DHF grade 1, 29.2% (19 patients) were DHF grade 2, 6.2% (4 patients) were DHF grade 3 and 1.5% (1 medical record) were DHF grade 4. For aminotransferase level 56.9% (37 records) had elevated SGPT levels and 92.3% (60 records) had elevated SGOT levels, it was found that there was no relationship between increased levels of SGPT and SGOT with the severity of DHF (SGPT p = 0.628 and SGOT p = 1.00). There is no association between the elevations of transaminase enzyme levels and the severity of DHF.

Abstract

Child health is a crucial issue for the future of the nation, where nutrition is a major concern. Nutritional disorders in children can lead to obesity, learning disabilities, developmental disorders, chronic diseases, and cancer, influenced by genetic factors, socio-economics, parental education, history of infection, and intake patterns. Anthropometric measurements are used to detect these disorders. This community service activity aims to provide socialization about balanced nutrition through the concept of “Isi Piringku” and prevention of helminthiasis, as well as measuring the nutritional status of 316 students of SD Negeri 133888. The results showed that 87% of students had good nutritional status, while 13% had nutritional disorders, consisting of 5.4% undernutrition, 3.8% overnutrition, and 3.8% obesity. Further research is needed to identify factors that contribute to these nutritional disorders, so that appropriate interventions in community service activities can be designed to reduce the prevalence of malnutrition in the future.

Abstract

Abstract

Background : Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) is one of the leading cause of death globally. The most threatening manifestation of CAD is Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS), that classified as Unstable Angina Pectoris (UAP), Non ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction (NSTEMI) and ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI). ACS patients tend to have complication, that usually defined as Major Adverse Cardiovascular Events (MACE) which  consists of heart failure, arrhythmia, stroke, and in-hospital mortality. Some factors have been researched to predict MACE in ACS, such as troponin level, which has been one of the modality to diagnose ACS. This study aims to determine the association between cTnI level and MACE in ACS patients at Adam Malik General Hospital. Method : This study used an observational analytic method with cross sectional design and retrospective approach. The data used is a secondary data that meets the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Result : Among 190 patients, 170 patients (89,5%) were >45 years old and 114 patients (75,8%) were male. The most common type of ACS was NSTEMI, with 73 patients (38,4%). cTnI level was increased in 131 patients (68,9%). There were 115 patients (60,5%) who experienced MACE and were dominated by heart failure, with 78 patients (41,1%). There was an association found between troponin level and MACE  (p=0,000). Conclusion : There was an association  between troponin level and MACE in ACS patients.
