Abstract

ABSTRACTThe availability of clean water is one of the main problems for the people in Kendari City. Overutilization of groundwater can cause seawater intrusion to groundwater. This study aims to identify and map seawater intrusion distribution to shallow groundwater based on water quality data. Sampling was obtained from 100 dug wells of the inhabitant (n=100) in March-July 2019 with a variation of the distance from the beach 0.04-5.52 km and the elevation of Groundwater (MAT) between 0.43-30.01 MASL. The distribution of shallow groundwater is mapped on the criteria to the value of Electrical Conductivity (DHL) at the standard temperature of 25 °C. The analysis showed that the average groundwater temperature was 29.28 °C, DHL was 393.52 µmhos, Total Dissolved Solid (TDS) was 196.98 ppm, and pH was 6.31. Shallow groundwater, which has been varied intruded with high intruded (26.26%), rather high intruded (14.14%), medium intruded (32.32%), low intruded (6.06%) and not intruded (21.21%). The correlation between distance from the coast to the value of DHL was not significantly correlated (R2 = -0.49), while groundwater level elevation has a significant correlation (R2 = 0.71). The geological factors of alluvial deposits, which generally have low permeability and slope to flat topography, cause seawater intrusion to shallow groundwater. Keywords: sea water intrusion, shallow groundwater, Kendari City ABSTRAKKetersediaan air bersih merupakan salah satu masalah utama bagi masyarakat kota Kendari.

Abstract

Macrozoobentos are animals that live permanently in sediments at the bottom of the water, both on soft and hard substrate conditions. Macrozoobenthos contribute greatly to the function of aquatic ecosystems and play important roles such as mineralization processes in sediments and organic material cycles and play a role in transferring energy through the food chain. Based on the results of research conducted on the Lantahiwo River, Kotawo Village, West Kulisusu District, the species richness of macrozoobenthos found in the Lantahiwo River was varied where the number of individuals obtained from station 1 (upstream) was 20 individuals. At station 2 (middle of the river) there were 60 individuals, while at station 3 (downstream) there were 14 individuals. The river is a form of aquatic ecosystem that has an important role in the hydrological cycle and functions as a catchment area for the surrounding area. So that the condition of a river is strongly influenced by the characteristics of the surrounding environment. The sampling point includes looking at the considerations made in the field and sampling at stations 1, 2 and 3 is carried out in stages, first in the upstream, middle and downstream parts of the river then observations are made with several parameters that are considered important by researchers as key parameters that represent and describes the waters of the Lantahiwo River. This research was conducted from March to April 2020 in Kotawo Village, Kulisusu Barat District, North Buton Regency. Based on the results of identification, where the types of macrozoobenthos found in the Lantahiwo River at stations 1 to 3 consist of 2 families and 2 classes, namely; types of family Gerridae from class Bivalvia, species from family Thiaridae from class Gastropods, species from family Thiaridae from class Macrozoobentos were found at each station.

Abstract

The agricultural practices carried out by the people of Aunupe Village have been going on for several generations, but the agricultural system used is not optimal because they still use a conventional farming system, namely monoculture. Apart from that, the agricultural input used is chemical fertilizer which of course does not meet the organic aspect and is not sustainable, because high chemical input and long use can damage the texture and nutrients of the soil. For this reason, community empowerment through training in the application of organic farming techniques in the form of agrosilvo conservation in an agroforestry pattern needs to be encouraged so that local communities who use land in forest areas not only obtain agricultural products but can also benefit from environmental and economic services so that they can be sustainable. Thus, the appropriate alternative that can be implemented is to utilize a non-timber farming system combined with maintaining wood trees, known as an agroforestry system, namely agrosilvo conservation. This service aims to provide knowledge and examples to the farming community regarding how to cultivate agriculture using a combination of non-timber plants and woody plants, namely with the conservation agrosilvo system. The method used is descriptive qualitative. The results of the PKMI program activities are the socialization of agro-silvoconservation activities and increased knowledge and capacity of the community in carrying out farming using the agrosilvo-conservation method.

Abstract

The concept of Integrated Watershed Management essentially involves participatory management by multiple stakeholders, focusing on conservation and sustainable use through an ecological approach that emphasizes the interdependence between humans and nature. The Wanggu Watershed, located in Southeast Sulawesi, is characterized by high dynamics due to various human activities such as agriculture, plantations, forestry, and residential development, all of which influence its performance and carrying capacity. The extent of critical and moderately critical land in the Wanggu Watershed still qualifies it as an area with a high need for critical land rehabilitation. The percentage of vegetation cover, particularly forest cover, remains low and is in poor condition. This study aims to evaluate the watershed management practices implemented in the Wanggu Watershed. The water bodies included in the study comprise lakes, rivers, estuaries, seas, bays, and straits. The results indicate that the condition of vegetation cover—especially forest cover—is still poor, and the erosion index is high. Several soil parameters further reveal that the current watershed management in Wanggu is associated with low land carrying capacity. Therefore, improved land management and conservation efforts are necessary to enhance the watershed's performance and sustainability.

Abstract

Water is an essential element for human life; without water, humans will experience a lack of fluid, the fluid in the human body is around 50-80. Water can fulfill daily needs through human activities such as washing clothes, water for drinking, bathing, and so on. Well, water is suitable for use if it meets water quality standards. This type of research uses descriptive research methods. This research is located in Baruga Market, Anduonohu Market, Lorong Salangga, and Kendari Permai Kendari City in December 2023. the samples used in this study amounted to 4 wells. The results obtained in this study are that all well water is polluted with E. coli, and Baruga Market well water exceeds the quality standards for Coliform parameters.  The presence of E. coli in all well water samples indicates fecal contamination, posing severe health risks such as waterborne diseases. Baruga Market's well water exceeds Coliform standards, likely due to sewage runoff, making it unsafe without treatment. Immediate actions, like improving sanitation and providing clean water alternatives, are necessary to prevent further contamination and protect public health.
