Abstract

This article critically interprets the intersection between prophetic Islamic values and the symbolic hegemony of dynastic power in Deli Serdang, North Sumatra. Despite procedural legality, the hereditary rule of the Tambunan family over two decades raises ethical and normative concerns. Through a qualitative case study involving document analysis, interviews, and field observation, this study finds that political communication in the region is heavily shaped by religious and cultural symbolism, which legitimizes power continuity while suppressing democratic deliberation and political regeneration. The research highlights that values such as rahmah (compassion), syura (consultation), and ?adl (justice) are often invoked rhetorically but rarely operationalized in governance practices. The study argues that Islamic political communication must transcend symbolic religiosity to promote openness, justice, and participatory leadership. Ultimately, this article offers a reinterpretation of Islamic political ethics as a critical framework to challenge symbolic domination and democratize local politics. It calls for a rethinking of democracy through Qur’anic values, exposing how structural stagnation is often disguised as political stability.

Abstract

This study explores the implementation of prophetic communication values—?idq (honesty), sh?r? (deliberation), ?adl (justice), and ra?mah (compassion)—as a strategic approach to resolving local political conflicts in Labuhan Batu Selatan, North Sumatra. The research examines how these Islamic ethical principles are actualized by political actors, religious leaders, and civil society during the post-election period. Grounded in a qualitative case study design, the study draws on 12 in-depth interviews with key informants, including local government officials, clerics, NGO representatives, and community leaders. It also incorporates document analysis of local media coverage and election-related public statements. The study adopts a constructivist theoretical framework, emphasizing how actors interpret and enact moral-religious values within political discourse. Thematic analysis was employed to identify patterns in ethical and dialogical communication across multiple stakeholder groups. Findings reveal that while individual actors often internalize and express prophetic values in informal settings, formal political communication remains dominated by transactional and polarizing narratives. Religious leaders and civil society organizations serve as moral intermediaries, but their capacity is constrained by the lack of institutional mechanisms for dialogue and reconciliation. This study contributes both theoretically and practically. Theoretically, it offers a moral-ethical lens to the study of local political communication in pluralistic Muslim societies. Practically, it suggests that the integration of prophetic values into political discourse can promote ethical governance and strengthen social cohesion in post-electoral contexts.

Abstract

This study examines the influence of da'wah rhetoric on the understanding of national insight among Muslim millennials in Indonesia. In the context of rising social polarization and digital disruption, da'wah serves not only as a means of conveying religious teachings but also as a strategic medium for instilling national values such as tolerance, unity, and national identity. Contemporary Islamic preaching delivered through digital media by figures like Ustadz Hanan Attaki and Habib Husein Ja’far demonstrates the integration of religious messages with inclusive national narratives. This research employs a qualitative approach using thematic analysis, based on in-depth interviews with young Muslim audiences who actively engage with digital da'wah content. The findings show that contextual and participatory rhetorical approaches can enhance understanding and acceptance of national insight among the millennial generation. Rhetoric that touches emotional aspects, aligns with social realities, and uses language relatable to youth proves more effective in conveying nationalistic values. These findings highlight the importance of collaboration among preachers, religious institutions, and state bodies in designing da'wah strategies that strengthen social cohesion and national resilience. In the digital era, da'wah must evolve into a transformative force that not only provides spiritual guidance but also fosters a comprehensive national consciousness.

Abstract

This article examines how Islamic communication in Indonesia responds to the Palestinian crisis, highlighting the dynamic intersection of moral-religious values with domestic and international political realities. Using a literature review method, it analyzes key primary and secondary sources such as MUI fatwas, the communication strategies of Nahdlatul Ulama and Muhammadiyah, and the media's role in promoting Islam Wasathiyah (moderate Islam). The study finds that expressions of solidarity with Palestine are rooted not only in Islamic principles like ukhuwah Islamiyah and universal justice, but are also influenced by pragmatic political and diplomatic considerations. The novelty of this research lies in its exploration of how prophetic values are translated into strategic, moderate public communication amid global crises. It offers new insights into value-based Islamic messaging as a form of transnational humanitarian advocacy, revealing how moral consistency is sustained within Indonesia’s complex media and political landscape.

Abstract

This study investigates the dynamics of gender negotiation and identity politics in shaping marriage registration practices in Deli Serdang, Indonesia. Employing a qualitative case study approach, it focuses on the interaction among religious authority, ethnic traditions—particularly within Malay and Batak communities—and state legal frameworks. The research finds that many unregistered marriages gain legitimacy through discourses of Islamic identity and customary norms, where women’s agency is often curtailed by structural factors such as economic dependence and entrenched patriarchal values. Religious leaders frequently prioritize syar’i legitimacy over civil legal recognition, influencing community perceptions and practices. Furthermore, state efforts to promote marriage registration—typically via religious sermons and administrative outreach—are largely top-down, failing to engage deeply with local sociocultural realities. In contrast, civil society actors such as the Congress of Indonesian Women Ulama (KUPI) adopt more inclusive and participatory communication models. KUPI’s approach integrates the ethical aims of Shariah (maq??id al-shar?‘ah) with constitutional legality, while simultaneously enhancing women’s roles in decision-making processes. This study emphasizes the need for dialogic, community-based communication strategies that align legal reforms with lived religious and cultural experiences, ultimately advocating for justice-oriented and gender-responsive marriage registration policies.
