Abstract

This research aims to analyze the dualism of meaning in the history of Islam in Spain, concerning the spread of Islam and the practices of colonialism that occurred during the Al-Andalus period. The research utilizes a historical approach, drawing on the works of Kuntuwijoyo as the analytical foundation. The research methodology involves a historical analysis of various relevant sources, including historical literature, records, and previous studies. The collected data is then analyzed to understand the historical context, cultural influences, intellectual developments, as well as the impact of the spread of Islam and Islamic colonialism in Spain. The findings of this research reveal a complex dualism of meaning in the spread of Islam and colonialism in Spain. The spread of Islam brought positive changes in culture, art, architecture, science, and language. However, the practices of colonialism also had negative consequences, such as the suppression of non-Muslim groups and suffering during the Reconquista period. This research provides a deeper understanding of the complex dynamics in the history of Islam in Spain. Through a historical analysis, this study uncovers the significant role of Islam in the social and cultural development of Spain while acknowledging the negative impacts of colonialism. The research contributes to understanding the roles of religion, power, and colonialism in the historical context of Spain and its relevance in a broader global context

Abstract

To understand the meaning behind the Wahdatul Ulum notion as a response to and resolution to the scientific dichotomy is the goal of this study. The reference tracing approach was employed in this investigation. This approach was used to elaborate on the opinions of experts and solid research on wahdatul ulum in more detail. The findings of this investigation suggest; (1) The scientific dichotomy actually creates a wide chasm between general science and religious knowledge, and (2) the current scientific dichotomy is connected to both vertical and horizontal dichotomies as well as factual, ethical, and interpersonal dichotomies. (3) The ambiguity of Islamic education orientation, the discrepancy between the Islamic education system and Islamic teachings, and the disintegration of the Islamic education system are the dangers of scientific dichotomy. (4) Wahdatul Ulum must be capable of integrating with UIN North Sumatra's central philosophical tenet.

Abstract

This study investigates organizational communication's role in achieving superior accreditation at the State Islamic University of North Sumatra (UIN-SU). The research method used is mixed, with a survey-based quantitative approach using questionnaires to collect data from UIN-SU students, lecturers, and teaching staff and a qualitative approach through interviews with universities that have achieved superior accreditation. Data were analyzed using statistical analysis techniques and path analysis with moderating variables. The results showed that UIN-SU achieved a "B" (Superior) accreditation rating, which reflects a commitment to improving the quality of higher education services. The effectiveness of internal communication and the quality of external communication played a crucial role in achieving this feat. However, the participation of academic community members in decision-making did not have a significant impact, indicating the need to increase their participation and role in the accreditation process. In order to achieve higher accreditation in the future, UIN-SU needs to focus on improving organizational communication, supportive organizational policies and culture, and allocating adequate resources to support accreditation efforts and improve the quality of higher education.

Abstract

This article aims to analyze and explore the central role of new media in shaping and pioneering the dynamics of multiculturality in Indonesia. Data shows that the bullying and discrimination that exists in Indonesia indicates that the homo virtualis of the Indonesian nation are experiencing an identity crisis. The urgency of this research is how new media can catalyze a national identity crisis and pose a threat to cultural diversity, especially in Indonesia. This article uses qualitative research with a case study approach. The primary data source for this article is 9,996 tweets from Twitter netizens regarding the identity crisis. Secondary data in this research are articles, books and scientific reports relating to the theme. The data was then analyzed using content analysis techniques. The research results show that the dynamics of national identity in Indonesia have entered a crisis phase. The identity crisis in Indonesia is still dry of educational touches, so it never touches on substantial context. Then, the author found that the identity crisis that occurred in Indonesia occurred due to several factors, namely: 1) Globalization and modernization, 2) Regional disparities, 3) Ethnic and religious conflicts, 4) Lack of multicultural education, and 5) Influence of information and media. However, the author believes there are opportunities to alleviate this crisis through several constructive indicators: the Development of Intercultural Communication Literacy, the Use of Media as an Educational Means, Cross-Cultural Collaboration in Social Media, and anti-Apartheid Curriculum. The novelty of this research lies in a deeper understanding of the role of new media as agents of influence, sources of potential conflict, and opportunities to strengthen cultural diversity.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the extinction of Udan Potir's repertoire in the Gordang Sambilan game while in development communication in Mandailing land. The extinction came from a repertoire full of ecological meaning in the form of rhythmic calling for rain and worshiping other than Allah. The method used in this study is exploratory research by analyzing the extinction of the udan potir repetoir in rites using gordang Sambilan along with the development of Islam in the Mandailing land. Specifically, this research seeks to trace information related to the repetoir on part-time gordang players in Mandaling Natal Regency, North Sumatra Province. This research analysis uses the Servaes development communication approach which seeks to unravel the extinction of Udan Potir's repertoire by looking at the important aspect of considering the local context in designing a development communication strategy. The results of this study indicate that Udan Potir's repetoir has uniqueness in the space of Mandailing local wisdom, but the repetoir is full of shirk values from rhythmic processes that tend to be in trance and worship other than God which makes this repeto increasingly left behind until it becomes extinct in the Gordang Sambilan tradition. Therefore it is necessary Therefore, development communication is needed to find a middle way in preserving Gordang Sambilan without violating the religious values shared by the majority of the community. this can be done by looking for alternative lyrics or movements that are more in line with religious values, or by maintaining the repertoire within the scope of non-religious culture.

Abstract

Stunting remains a critical public health issue in Indonesia, particularly in rural areas like Nias Barat, where limited access to resources and information exacerbates the problem. This study examines the systemic biases in media literacy and their impact on stunting prevention efforts in this underserved region. Using a Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR) approach, the research integrates traditional communication channels such as local leaders and community meetings with media literacy initiatives to address cultural and infrastructural barriers. The mixed-methods methodology combines qualitative focus groups and interviews with quantitative surveys to assess changes in community awareness, health practices, and stunting prevalence. The findings highlight the need for culturally relevant and accessible health communication strategies, demonstrating that integrating media literacy with traditional channels enhances the reach and effectiveness of interventions. This study proposes an inclusive and sustainable framework for addressing stunting, offering valuable insights for policymakers and practitioners aiming to improve public health outcomes in marginalized regions

Abstract

Early marriage remains a significant social challenge in Nias Barat, driven by cultural norms, economic pressures, and limited access to education. Religious counseling has long been a key strategy in addressing this issue, leveraging the influence of religious leaders to raise awareness about its risks. However, traditional counseling methods often fail to engage younger generations effectively, particularly in the digital era. This study explores the integration of media literacy into religious counseling as a transformative approach to preventing early marriage. Using a qualitative descriptive method with elements of Community-Based Research (CBR), data was collected through in-depth interviews, focus group discussions, and participatory observation involving religious counselors, parents, youth, and community leaders. The findings reveal that while religious counseling holds significant potential, its impact is limited by infrastructural, generational, and cultural barriers. Integrating media literacy offers opportunities to modernize these efforts, enhancing their relevance and reach. Community-based strategies that actively involve stakeholders in creating and disseminating culturally sensitive media content emerged as a promising approach. Despite challenges such as limited digital infrastructure and financial constraints, this integration fosters collaboration and ensures sustainability. This study contributes to the academic discourse on early marriage prevention by highlighting the importance of combining traditional practices with modern innovations. The results offer practical recommendations for policymakers and practitioners, providing a scalable model for similar contexts in Indonesia and beyond.

Abstract

The Sadbor dance phenomenon on TikTok shows how Indonesian farmers use social media as a survival strategy amid economic constraints. This trend emerged amidst a difficult economic situation, where many farmers were forced to seek additional income through digital platforms. This study aims to understand the Sadbor dance as a form of everyday resistance in the context of James Scott's theory and as a response to the Spiral of Silence by Elisabeth Noelle-Neumann. The novelty of this study lies in the effort to connect the socio-economic phenomenon of farmers with the theory of symbolic resistance in the digital era. This study uses a qualitative method with content analysis of the Sadbor dance video and public responses. The results show that the Sadbor dance is not just entertainment, but also a hidden medium of expression that reflects farmers' dissatisfaction with unfair economic conditions. The recommendation of this study is the need for more attention from the government to the welfare of farmers through stronger economic support, so that they have alternatives outside of social media to improve their standard of living.
