Abstract

Cancel culture (or also known as call-out culture) is a social and cultural phenomenon that has been gaining global attention in the recent years. Public figures, company brands or institutions can be ostracized or boycotted only on the basis of disagreeing with the statement or visions of the sympathizers or the ideologues of this so-called cancel culture. This phenomenon has also slowly infiltrated the world of education and some researchers would even argue that cancel culture has its seminal growth beginning from the academe itself. Thus, with that regard, this article will critically analyze the phenomenon of cancel culture particularly in the realm of education. Anchored in the principle of academic freedom, this article shall put into scrutiny the presence of cancel culture and its presuppositions and ramifications in education. And in order to achieve such telos, as a qualitative study, this article has employed an analytical-critical reflection as its method. In this academic endeavor, then, the researchers shall rely on the perspective of Deliberative-Democratic Education Philosophy as its benchmark.

Abstract

The feast of Dalok is the highlight of the feast in the series of death-rites performed by Dayak Uud Danum’s tribe in Serawai, District of Sintang, West Borneo. It is the biggest feast celebrated by this tribe. There are plenty of Symbols found in the rites, and they are picturing the relationship among the human beings and also between the people and The Supreme Being, Tahala’. These Symbols are tied each other very closely like a knot. The author of this article is using Paul Ricoeur’s hermeneutics to reread and reveal the meaning of symbolical knots which are acceptable to the public. Pesta Dalok adalah puncak dari rangkaian upacara kematian dalam suku Dayak Uud Danum di Serawai, Kab. Sintang, Kalimantan Barat. Pesta Dalok menjadi pesta terbesar yang dilaksanakan oleh suku ini. Ada begitu banyak simbol dalam ritus-ritus di pesta ini dan semuanya menggambarkan relasi antara sesama manusia maupun antar manusia dengan Realitas Tertinggi, Tahala’. Simbol-simbol ini saling berhubungan dengan sangat erat ibarat sebuah simpul. Penulis menggunakan hermeneutika Paul Ricoeur untuk membaca ulang dan membuka makna dari simpul-simpul simbolik yang dapat diterima oleh masyarakat.

Abstract

The classical philosophers present a picture of beauty refers to the Absolute Reality. Beauty has always been associated with concepts of metaphysical and transcendental ethics that far from human daily experiences. Nietzsche ripped that picture off and settled the beauty parallel to the everyday life of human. The art in Nietzsche’s point of view is the work of human where they try to love their life, not just chasing an abstract value where there is no end. Para filosof klasik menghadirkan gambaran tentang keindahan mengacu pada Realitas Absolut. Akibatnya, keindahan selalu diasosiasikan dengan konsepkonsep metafisika dan etika transendental yang sejatinya “jauh” dari keseharian manusia. Nietzsche merobek cara berpikir seperti itu dan meletakkan keindahan dalam hubungannya dengan keseharian manusia. Seni, dalam perspektif Nietzsche, adalah karya manusia di mana mereka mencoba untuk mencintai kehidupan mereka lewat karya tersebut, tidak hanya mengejar nilai-nilai abstrak yang tak berujung.

Abstract

The post-truth era presents the banality of hoax with populism as its main arm. Hoax affects the social order of the society in such a way that it often creates an outcry that makes distrust among the people. Internet has become the most proper media for disseminating hoax information. Group and Grid theory of Mary Douglas will be used to analyze this phenomena. Critical theory of Jürgen Habermas will be used as a ‘scalpel’ to reconstruct human common sense in this post-truth era in order to promote a better social order in the society.

Abstract

This study focuses on the problem of proving the existence of God, offering a review and analysis of Thomas Aquinas' arguments. Aquinas' arguments are presented within the broader framework of theological knowledge, characterized by a highly systematic and detailed approach to proof. Additionally, this paper discusses the perspectives of several scholars who have examined and interpreted Aquinas' arguments on the existence of God. While some of their perspectives share similarities with Aquinas' reasoning, they also introduce differing elements based on their respective viewpoints.This research employs a library-based methodology using hermeneutic phenomenology, which involves collecting, analyzing, organizing, and interpreting relevant literature as well as reflections on faith in God. The primary sources of this study include Thomas Aquinas' Summa Theologiae, while secondary sources provide further context and analysis. The findings of this study indicate that the concept of analogy in Aquinas' argument serves to illustrate a new mode of action that transcends the hierarchical levels of created beings. Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has posed many challenges to education delivery, especially in rural areas. This study aims to analyze the perceptions and experiences of students in rural areas using TikTok and YouTube as learning media during and after the pandemic. This research uses mixed methods (quantitative and qualitative). The results show that students in rural areas face internet access constraints and low learning motivation. However, they are interested in using TikTok and YouTube, which are considered interactive and easily accessible materials. This study concludes that both digital platforms can potentially overcome the academic backwardness of students in post-pandemic rural areas. Specifically, quantitative data collected through closed questionnaires revealed that most students in rural areas rely on unstable mobile internet and devices, resulting in poor connectivity. The qualitative, open-ended questionnaire highlighted decreased motivation and increased stress among about half of the respondents. Despite the decrease in motivation, the students remained enthusiastic about using TikTok and YouTube for self-directed learning. They found the platforms engaging, flexible, and enabled discussion with peers. This study suggests that increasing the interactive capacity of these digital tools could promote effective online education for underserved groups, reducing the pandemic gap.

Abstract

The short story A Day’s Wait by Ernest Hemingway portrays the affectionate relationship between a father and his sick child, reflecting the fulfillment of basic human needs according to Abraham Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory. This study aims to analyze the father’s expression of affection using Maslow’s humanistic theory approach and to examine the implications of fulfilling the child’s psychological needs in parenting. A qualitative method was employed, involving a literature study and content analysis of the story and supporting literature. Data were collected through a systematic literature review, including relevant quotations from the story and theoretical sources. The analysis identified main themes linked to Maslow’s theory. The results show that the father’s affection fulfills not only the child’s physical needs through medical care but also psychological and emotional needs through presence, communication, and consistent support. Meeting these needs helps the child overcome fear and undergo a holistic healing process. This study contributes to the language and literature fields by enriching the understanding of short story analysis through a humanistic psychology perspective, while emphasizing the importance of emotional aspects in literary interpretation and parenting within a cultural context

Abstract

Perilaku pasar dan konsumen tidak hanya dibentuk oleh faktor ekonomi, tetapi juga oleh lapisan makna budaya yang kompleks. Pendekatan riset konvensional yang menitikberatkan pada angka dan statistik kerap gagal menangkap dimensi simbolik tersebut. Artikel ini menawarkan perspektif hermeneutika sebagai kerangka interpretatif untuk memahami budaya dan perilaku pasar secara lebih mendalam. Berlandaskan pemikiran Hans-Georg Gadamer dan Paul Ricoeur, pasar dipandang sebagai “teks” yang senantiasa ditafsirkan melalui dialog antara peneliti, pelaku bisnis, dan konsumen. Penelitian dilakukan dengan metode kualitatif—analisis, observasi etnografis, serta analisis wacana—untuk menggali narasi, bahasa, dan tradisi yang melekat pada pengalaman konsumen. Temuan awal menunjukkan bahwa pemahaman atas simbol, cerita lokal, dan horizon historis masyarakat memungkinkan perusahaan merancang strategi marketing yang lebih kontekstual, mulai dari pengembangan produk hingga komunikasi merek. Pendekatan ini menegaskan pentingnya lingkaran hermeneutik: proses bolak-balik antara bagian dan keseluruhan makna yang memperkaya pemahaman manajer pemasaran. Dengan demikian, hermeneutika bukan sekadar alat teoritis, melainkan pendekatan praktis untuk merespons dinamika pasar multikultural dan menumbuhkan relasi yang lebih otentik antara merek dan konsumen.
