Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan penguasaan kosakata siswa dengan keterampilan berbicara mereka. Penelitian ini dilakukan melalui desain korelasional. Sampel penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas XI SMAN 1 Ledo tahun pelajaran 2016-2017. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian korelasi dengan Teknik pengumpulan data kuantitatif deskriptif statistic dan inferensial statistik. alat yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah rubrik score speaking performance untuk mengukur keterampilan berbicara siswa, sedangkan untuk mengukur penguasaan kosakata siswa (vocabulary mastery) menggunakan Multiple choice test (tes pilihan ganda) dimana secara manual (test Item validity and reliability) telah dilakukan validitas dan relibilitas terhadap kedua alat test tersebut. Untuk menganalisis data didalam penelitian ini penulis menggunakan descriptive statistic (nilai individu atau individual score, nilai rata rata atau mean score) dan inferential statistic (pearson product momen correlation) untuk menghitung variable penguasaan kosakata (vocabulary mastery) dan keterampilan berbicara (speaking skill). Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa untuk tingkat Kosa Kata dan Prestasi Berbicara Siswa pada kelas XI SMAN 1 Ledo berada pada tingkat yang baik. Peneliti juga menemukan bahwa terdapat korelasi positif antara penguasaan kosakata dengan keterampilan berbicara siswa kelas XI SMAN 1 Ledo tahun pelajaran 2016-2017 dengan signifikansi korelasi sebesar 0,943. Korelasi tersebut tergolong korelasi erat artinya kedua variabel memiliki korelasi yang kuat. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan penguasaan kosakata dan keterampilan berbicara siswa berkorelasi positif, artinya tingkat penguasaan kosakata tertinggi maka tingkat keterampilan berbicara juga tinggi. Oleh karena itu, guru yang berperan dalam mengontrol siswa dalam proses belajar mengajar juga penting untuk mengetahui peningkatan kosa kata dan keterampilan berbicara.

Abstract

Researchers have conducted research about the role of technology in teaching and learning process (Arthur, et al. 2008, Erben, et al. 2009, Kali and Linn. 2008, and Yang, 2005).  They found that the effectiveness of the students' learning and academic achievement can be greatly increased by the use of technology since technology provides opportunities to make the language learning more enjoyable, productive and effective. E-learning material is one of the technologies that can be used by English teachers to support their teaching instructions. This article is aimed at introducing a strategy for teaching reading through e-learning material and providing theoretical and empirical proofs about the benefits and the problems in e-learning material in reading class. However, in order to get the optimum result of integrating the technology in teaching English as a foreign language, a proper teaching strategy is urgently needed. Thus, this article covers: definition of teaching strategy and e-learning and each component, strategy of e-learning, benefit of e-learning, e-learning program, and distance learning. Through the use of media technology, it is hoped it could improve the quality of teaching and learning processes.

Abstract

This research aim is to analyze whether metacognitive strategy instruction CALLA affects students’ reading comprehension and reading awareness. This research used a quasi-experimental study in forms of pretest, treatment and post-test. Results showed that the group of experimental students had score significantly higher than the control group students on reading comprehension post-test and also showed significantly higher improvement in metacognitive reading strategy awareness and reading comprehension than control group students. The study recommends CALLA metacognitive strategy instruction to be an effective option for teaching reading comprehension skills at the senior high school level and in the contexts, which share similar characteristics.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the difference between using role-play and debate methods on students' speaking skills in English subject. This study is quantitative research with a comparative study method. The sample of this study was the students of XI IIS3 and XI MIA1 at one of the top-favourite private schools in one of the developed regencies in West Borneo. The researchers applied a performance test to collect the data while the T-test was used to analyze the data. The result revealed there was a significant difference between using role-play and debate toward the students' speaking skills. It can be seen from the significant difference in the comparison of their average values. In the role-play method, the average value is 62.11 while in the debate is 51.82. Thus, it can be concluded that the use of the role-play method is better than the debate method in an EFL setting. However, this study realizes that it happens because the role-play method offers a flexible chance for the students to ask for help during the preparation of the speech production.

Abstract

AbstractThe research method used in this research is associative quantitative research. The population of this study were all students of San Agustin Hippo Catholic University who participated in the election monitoring socialization program in 2023, totaling 207 people. From statistical analysis, it appears that most students show a high level of involvement and participation in election monitoring and the political process, The results showed that the correlation coefficient based on student gender and student election monitoring political awareness with a Pearson correlation value of -0.291. To answer the data hypothesis test, the researcher compared the r table with df 51, and the r value of the data was 0.228. So based on these results, Ha is accepted if the Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient value is greater than r table.The results showed a correlation coefficient of 0.577. This means that the higher the level of political awareness of student election supervision, the higher the level of political participation in student election supervision. -----------------------AbstrakMetode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif asosiatif. Populasi penelitian ini adalah seluruh mahasiswa Universitas Katolik San Agustin Hippo yang mengikuti program sosialisasi pemantauan pemilu tahun 2023 yang berjumlah 207 orang. Dari analisis statistik, terlihat bahwa sebagian besar mahasiswa menunjukkan tingkat keterlibatan dan partisipasi yang tinggi dalam pengawasan pemilu dan proses politik, Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa koefisien korelasi berdasarkan gender mahasiswa dan kesadaran politik pengawasan pemilu mahasiswa dengan nilai korelasi Pearson sebesar -0,291. Untuk menjawab uji hipotesis data tersebut, peneliti membandingkan r tabel dengan df 51, dan nilai r data tersebut adalah 0,228. Maka berdasarkan hasil tersebut maka Ha diterima jika nilai koefisien product-moment korelasi Pearson lebih besar dari r tabel .Hasil penelitian menunjukkan koefisien korelasi sebesar 0,577. Artinya semakin tinggi tingkat kesadaran politik Pengawasan Pemilu mahasiswa maka akan semakin tinggi pula tingkat partisipasi politik Pengawasan Pemilu mahasiswa tersebut.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify and analyze (1) the direct influence of academic supervision on teacher performance, (2) the direct influence of compensation on teacher performance, (3) the effect of work motivation on teacher performance, (4) the direct and indirect influence academic supervision of the teacher's performance through employee motivation, (5) the direct and indirect influence compensation of the teacher's performance through employee motivation. The type of research used is correlated with data collection tools using questionnaires, and the analysis techniques used are validity, reliability, regression analysis and path analysis. The results showed that Academic supervision on the performance of teachers by 0.308, or 30.8%, and motivation effect on teacher performance a contribution of 0.355, or 35.5%, and work motivation on teacher performance by 0.258, or 25.8%. Academic supervision has a direct or indirect effect on teacher performance. Indirect supervision of the performance of teachers through motivation is mediated with a contribution of 6.1528. Compensation directly or indirectly affects the performance of teachers through work motivation as mediation with a contribution of 3.2269.

Abstract

Abstract. The study intends to find out the link between student English Achievement, Vocabulary Mastery, and self-motivation. This research is done using a correlational design. The sample of this research is the second-semester students of ISB (Institute Shanti Bhuana College) Bengkayang, West Kalimantan, in the academic year 2023-2024. This research is correlational research utilizing quantitative data-gathering procedures and quantitatively descriptive and inferential statistics. The tool employed in this study is the score of vocabulary mastery and self-motivation test section to evaluate student vocabulary and self-motivation, whereby manually (test Item validity and reliability) validity and relativity to both test tools have been carried out. To analyze the data in the study, the author uses descriptive statistics (value of individual or individual score, value of average or mean score) and inferential statistics (linear regression correlation formula) to calculate the variable of English achievement, vocabulary mastery, and self-motivation. The findings of this study demonstrate that for the degree of self-motivation and vocabulary mastery, Students in ISB were at a good level. The researchers also observed that there was a positive link between English achievement, vocabulary mastery, and self-motivation of students in the second semester at ISB in the academic year of 2023-2024 with a correlational significance of 0.462. Based on the results of the study, it may be concluded that English accomplishment, vocabulary mastery, and self-motivation in pupils have a positive link, which means the greatest degree of mastery of vocabulary and self-motivation is also high. Therefore, the instructor has to consider this kind of aspect that might impact the learning accomplishment, which plays an extremely crucial role.

Abstract

The author chose this topic because Google Translate is a tool commonly used by students, but it still has limitations in accuracy and understanding of context. Many students rely on this tool without adequate evaluation skills for the translation results and their academic quality. By understanding the existing challenges, this study can provide recommendations for students and teachers to improve the effectiveness of using Google Translate in translation learning. This study identifies and analyzes third-semester students' challenges in using Google Translate. The research method used is a qualitative approach with data collection techniques through interviews and questionnaires. The data obtained were analyzed using thematic analysis methods to find patterns and main obstacles faced by students. The results of the study show that students experience various challenges, such as translation inaccuracy, lack of understanding of context, and difficulty in translating technical and academic terms. In addition, dependence on Google Translate also has an impact on students' ability to develop translation skills independently. The contribution of this study in the field of translation is to provide insight into the limitations of Google Translate and suggest strategies to improve the effectiveness of its use in academic contexts. These findings can be the basis for developing a better curriculum for students to learn translation.

Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) has transformed how students understand and acquire knowledge in their educational activities. This research aims to explore how students confront AI challenges and propose solutions to enhance learning and communication. Utilizing quantitative methods or case studies, the findings highlight an urgent need for technological improvements in student education. Most respondents believe in AI; however, some are skeptical about its accuracy and impact on their critical skills. Ethical concerns and plagiarism related to AI are significant, with language barriers affecting users' understanding of new technologies. Respondents tend to choose positive options, indicating optimism but facing difficulties in language comprehension that need to be addressed. The study concludes that students' understanding and skills in using AI for learning are still low. It is recommended to develop training interventions focused on AI comprehension and technical skills, as well as educational policies that effectively support AI integration.

Abstract

Technology plays an important role in learning, including in the field of text translation in higher education. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the Duolingo application in improving the ability of third-semester students of University of Katolik Santo Agustinus Hippo in helping to translate narrative texts from Indonesian to English. The method used was a pre-experiment with a pre-test and post-test design. The research sample consisted of 25 students selected using the cluster random sampling technique. Data were collected through a translation test and analyzed using the T test on the SPSS application. The results showed a significant increase in the average score from the pre-test 58.60 to the post-test 78.80. The T test produced a value of 57.52, greater than the T table value of 2.064, which proves the effectiveness of the Duolingo application. This application helps students understand sentence structure, expand vocabulary, and recognize cultural contexts in the target language. The conclusion of this study is that the use of Duolingo can significantly help improve students' translation skills. It is recommended to integrate this application as a routine learning medium, especially in developing translation skills.
