Abstract

Seagrass ecosystems have a vital function in sustaining the stability of coastal environments by enhancing biodiversity and maintaining key ecological processes of associated organisms, including Echinodermata. This study was conducted to examine the species composition, abundance, and distribution patterns of Echinodermata, to evaluate the composition and diversity of seagrass species, and to determine the degree of association between Echinodermata and seagrass in the southern coastal waters of East Lombok, specifically at Lungkak and Poton Bako Beaches. The research employed a survey method using a transect–quadrat technique in intertidal seagrass ecosystems, with subsequent analyses including the Shannon–Wiener diversity index, distribution pattern assessment, and Spearman correlation analysis to quantify the strength of the association. The study found that seagrass diversity indices at both sites were categorized as moderate, with relatively similar species composition, while Echinodermata communities were dominated by several key species exhibiting clustered to uniform distribution patterns. Correlation analysis indicated a positive to weak association between seagrass density and Echinodermata abundance. In conclusion, the seagrass beds in the study area continue to function as important habitats for Echinodermata, although signs of increasing environmental pressure were observed. These findings provide important scientific implications for seagrass ecosystem management and conservation-oriented regulation of coastal activities in East Lombok.

Abstract

Kerandangan Nature Park is a conservation area with high biodiversity potential, including spiders (Ordo Araneae) which play an important role as natural predators in maintaining ecosystem balance. However, information regarding the structure of the spider community in this area is still limited. This study aims to analyze the structure of the spider community based on species composition, diversity index, evenness, and dominance in Kerandangan Nature Park, West Lombok. This study was conducted in 2025 with two replications in three management blocks, namely intensive use, limited use, and protection. Sampling was carried out using the sweep net method and pitfall traps. Data analysis used the Shannon–Wiener index (H'), evenness index (E'), and Simpson dominance index (D'). The results showed that the spider community consisted of 25 species from seven families. The community composition was dominated by Pardosa pseudoannulata (42.2%), Cytaea haematica (12.64%), and Pardosa lapidicina (8%). The diversity index (H’) ranged from 0.73 to 2.60, the evenness index (E’) from 0.19 to 0.85, and the dominance index (D’) from 0.084 to 0.68. The conclusion is that the spider community structure is in the moderate and relatively stable category, thus supporting ecosystem balance in the area.

Abstract

Crab catches that do not meet standards have the potential to disrupt the population structure and reduce the size of the catch, so morphometric information is important as a basis for sustainable management and utilization; moreover, in Lombok waters, morphometric reference data is declared unavailable, while regulations also stipulate a prohibition on catching females laying eggs and the size of the carapace width is suitable for catching >10 cm. This study aims to analyze the morphometric characteristics of Portunus pelagicus crabs landed in Teluk Ujung (n=75) using a descriptive-exploratory approach to describe the size distribution. The results showed that harvested swimming crabs had weight range of 47-87 g (60%), a carapace width of 10-11 cm (24%), a total carapace width of 13–14 cm (19%), and a carapace length of 6-7 cm (27%). The parameters of the appendix also vary, including the width of the claw prop 2-3 cm (74%), the length of the prop 10-11 cm (15%), the height of the propous 1-2 cm (57%), the length of the claw dactylus 4-5 cm (29%), the width of the claw of 1-2 cm (57%), the length of the claw of 5-6 cm (29%), the width of the 4th leg of the claw 0.5-1 cm (74%), the length of the 4th leg of the claw 2-3 cm (50%), the width of the dactylus of the swimming leg 1-2 cm (72%),  Length of the dactylus of the swim leg 2-3 cm (73%), the width of the abdomen 1-2 cm (41%), the length of the telson 0.5-1 cm (59%). These findings present size profiles as basic data on local stocks as well as enrichment materials for zoology learning, and can be used to strengthen more selective fishing practices and are in line with the provisions of catchable size.
