Abstract

The partners involved in this PKM activity are farming communities in Nagari Matur Mudik, Nagari Lawang and Nagari Tigo Balai, Matur District, Agam, Regency West Sumatera. Most of the people of Nagari Matur Mudik, Kec. Thanks, Kab. Agam has a livelihood as a farmer. The Community Partnership Program aims to increase the economic value of agricultural commodities in Nagari Matur Mudik, Nagari Lawang and Nagari Tigo Balai, Matur District, Agam Regency. Sales of agricultural raw materials are still constrained in the distribution/sales process which is only limited to traditional markets. Efforts are being made through the processing of agricultural raw materials into delicious and nutritious products, as well as having competent selling points in the market. The methods used in this program are counselling and training methods. This program works with the PKK team and the farming community as partners in the centre for processing agricultural products into food products for the trading community. The flow of activities includes the preparatory stage in the form of observations to related offices/agencies. Then the implementation stage, namely counselling and training for the community in Matur District, which is centered at the Nagari Matur Mudik Village office, Nagari Lawang and Nagari Tigo Balai. With direct participation by the community, the result was the community already understand about knowledge given so it is hoped that new and creative ideas will emerge by the community in processing agricultural products so that this program can be sustainable as a concrete effort to continue to improve the economy of the local community.

Abstract

CV. Amna Lab Aromaterapi Small and Medium Enterprises have started the citronella oil business in 2018. Some of its products such as soap, aromatherapy spray, propolis, and body oil have arrived in several big cities in Indonesia. However, since the Covid-19 pandemic, these SMEs have experienced difficulties, especially regarding the large capital costs and the price of citronella which has fallen drastically to 100% of the original price. Under these conditions, SMEs are constrained in the process of increasing productivity and lack production technology as well as marketing and management. The Community Service Team of the ATI Padang Polytechnic offers solutions to overcome these problems by providing alternative processing of citronella oil-based products to be aromatherapy candles and educating the SMEs on the product marketing strategies through e-commerce applications. The community service team tried resolving the delinquent by determining the amount of citronella oil that should be included and the composition variations of stearic acid, vegetable oil, and paraffin. The variations were tested in order to find the right comparison in making aromatherapy candles based on citronella oil. The team also searched and studied several references to analyze marketing strategies in accordance with SMEs CV. Amana Aromatherapy Lab. Considering the result of the experiments, it was identified that 1% of citronella oil could be added to the wax mixture while the exact composition of oil and paraffin was 1: 2. The stearic acid was unsuitable to applied since the candle product easily melted. E-commerce marketing strategies were used by utilizing advertisements on internet searches to expand the promotions.

Abstract

Antioxidant extracted from soursop leaves with solvent extraction and stirring methods. Ethanol, ethyl acetate, and n-hexane use as a solvent. Extraction temperature varied of 35 °, 45 °, 55 ° C. The highest yield obtained was 20.2% from the ethanol extraction at a temperature of 55 °C. Test result of antioxidant activity using DPPH method indicates that the ethyl acetate fraction has the highest activity with% RSA 81.10 followed by ethanol and nhexane fraction of 69.64% and 27.60%. GCMS analysis indicated that the ethyl acetate fraction has the most antioxidant compounds with 11 compounds followed by ethanol fraction and n-hexane which has 9 and 4 antioxidant compounds with the highest content is the tocopherol group.

Abstract

This study discusses the design and development of a prototype fermentor with two aerators to cultivate Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast using molasses as raw material. The fermentor was designed with a capacity of six liters, equipped with a pitched blade turbine mixing system and two aerators to increase oxygen supply during aerobic fermentation. The observed variables included fermentation time, pH, temperature, and brix level. The results showed that the highest yeast growth was achieved at 72 hours of fermentation with a cell count of 1.51×108 cells/ml. The use of two aerators proved to provide more uniform oxygen distribution compared to one aerator, thereby increasing yeast growth efficiency. Thus, the designed fermentor can be used as a learning model and further laboratory research in renewable energy bioprocess techhnology.

Abstract

This study aims to produce biodiesel from Refined Bleached Deodorized Palm Oil (RBDPO) using a heterogeneous catalyst based on calcium oxide (CaO) derived from limestone andmodified with palm oil mill fly ash (FA) as a catalyst support. The limestone feedstock was first activated to obtain the CaO catalyst. Subsequently, the FA material was activated through calcination at 500°C. The CaO-FA catalyst was synthesized using the wet impregnation method and then calcined at 600°C. This catalyst was applied in the transesterification of RBDPO with methanol at various molar ratios. The study investigated the effect of different CaO-FA catalyst compositions (1:1, 2:1, and 3:1), and methanol:RBDPO molar ratios (8:1, 10:1, and 12:1) on biodiesel yield. The results demonstrated that both the CaO-FA catalyst ratios and the methanol:RBDPO molar ratios significantly influenced the biodiesel yield and the resulting Fatty Acid Methyl Ester (FAME) composition. Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis revealed that the 3:1 CaO-FA composition with an 8:1 methanol:RBDPO molar ratio produced biodiesel with the highest methyl palmitate (C17H34O2) content of 88.99%, which meets the characteristics of high-quality biodiesel. These findings provide valuable insights into the development of CaO-FA-based heterogeneous catalysts for cost-effective and environmentally friendly biodiesel production, in line with government initiatives to promote renewable energy utilization.
