Abstract

This study aims to identify and analyze the perceptions of physics students about the relevance of physics in sports. Although physics is often considered a theoretical discipline, many physics principles underpin various techniques and movements in sports, such as Newton's laws of motion, energy principles, and momentum. However, students' understanding of these correlations is often limited or poorly contextualized in sports practice. The study employs a descriptive qualitative approach with purposive sampling techniques, involving 10-15 physics students with experience in recreational or competitive sports. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews to explore their views on the application of physics in sports, challenges in understanding sports-related physics concepts, and how physics can improve athletic performance. The findings indicate that most students recognize the importance of physics in sports. However, they feel that deeper physics understanding is insufficiently integrated into their physics curriculum. Some participants mentioned that the application of physics in sports could help prevent injuries and improve movement techniques. Despite this, many perceive physics as an abstract concept rather than something directly applicable to the sports world. This research provides insights into how students' perceptions of physics in sports can be enhanced and the need for more applicative and contextual teaching approaches. The findings are also expected to contribute to the development of more relevant and engaging physics teaching materials by integrating commonly encountered sports elements into everyday life.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a prototype sports physics module that can be used by physics students to connect physics theory with its application in sports. The module is designed with an approach based on physics theories relevant to sports concepts, such as Newton’s laws of motion, kinetic energy, frictional force, and momentum. The development process follows a research and development (R&D) methodology, which includes the stages of needs analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and questionnaires, involving physics students selected through purposive sampling. The results indicate that this module not only enhances students' understanding of physics concepts but also strengthens their perception of the relevance of physics in sports. A limited trial involving 20 students showed an 80% improvement in material comprehension, as measured through pretest and posttest assessments. Additionally, the module was evaluated as effective by students and expert validators, with an average feasibility score of 86%. This study makes a significant contribution to the development of more contextual and applicative physics learning, especially for physics students at the university level.

Abstract

Breakfast is an essential part of a healthy diet that contributes to physical and mental health. This study aims to analyze the relationship between the habit of skipping breakfast and stress levels among physics students at Universitas Negeri Makassar. The research employs a quantitative method with a cross-sectional design, involving 20 students selected through purposive sampling. Breakfast frequency data were collected using a questionnaire, while stress levels were measured using the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale-21 (DASS-21). The analysis was conducted using Pearson's correlation test. The results show that the majority of students (65%) skipped breakfast 3-4 times a week, while 20% skipped breakfast every day. Pearson's correlation test revealed a significant negative relationship between breakfast skipping frequency and stress levels (r = -0.60, p < 0.05), indicating that the more frequently breakfast is skipped, the higher the stress levels experienced. These findings highlight the importance of breakfast in maintaining emotional stability and reducing stress, particularly among students facing academic pressures. The conclusion of this study emphasizes the need for regular breakfast habits to support students' mental health. Further research is recommended to explore other factors influencing stress and to increase the sample size to strengthen the generalizability of the findings.

Abstract

Abstract. This study aims to examine the difference in swimming speed between freestyle and breaststroke over a 30-meter distance among Sports Science students at Universitas Negeri Makassar. Freestyle is widely recognized for its biomechanical efficiency compared to breaststroke, and is therefore hypothesized to result in shorter completion times. A quantitative approach with a comparative research design was employed. The sample consisted of 22 students (17 males and 5 females) who were proficient in both swimming techniques. Time data were collected through direct stopwatch measurements and analyzed using a paired sample t-test. The analysis revealed that the mean completion time for freestyle was 27.60 seconds (SD = 7.17), whereas breaststroke recorded a mean time of 38.75 seconds (SD = 8.32). Statistical testing indicated a significant difference between the two styles (t = 7.11; p < 0.001), confirming that freestyle is significantly faster than breaststroke over a 30-meter distance. These findings provide valuable insights for the development of swimming training programs, particularly in enhancing speed and movement efficiency. Keywords: Swimming, breaststroke, freestyle, speed, student.

Abstract
