Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze the joint motion kinetics of the shoulders, elbows, and wrists between experienced player (skilled player) group and unskilled player group when performing overhead standing smash in badminton game. The samples involved were 26 samples. The samples included 13 male badminton players joining Student Activity Unit who had achieved many achievements and had a high skill (skilled), while the other 13 samples were unskilled players, involving students who had just studied under one year. The mean of participants’ age was 19.4 ± 1.6 years, height was 1.73 ± 0.12m, and body weight was 62.8 ± 3.7kg. This study used 3 Panasonic Handycams, a calibration set, 3D Frame DIAZ IV motion analysis software, and a speed radar gun. Normalization of the kinetic motion score of the shoulder, elbow, and wrist joints was calculated using the inverse dynamics method. The t-test was used to determine the significance of motion kinetic difference of the two different groups. The results presented that the shuttlecock speed of the skilled player group, during the overhead standing smash, showed a significant difference. Meanwhile, the joint motion of the inferior shoulder force, shoulder anterior force, shoulder internal rotation torque, shoulder horizontal abduction torque, elbow anterior force, and wrist flexion torque were higher in the skilled players group than the unskilled player group.

Abstract

Taekwondo is a Korean martial art characterized by rapid kicks. In the combat category, technical ability is the key to success in gaining points. The aphurigi technique (axe kick) is one of the important techniques in taekwondo because the technique gives a point contribution of around 20% in the match. Thus, it is necessary to investigate kinematic analysis to determine the kinematic parameters that contribute to the success of the aphurigi (axe kick) kick technique. 24 athletes were involved in this research, divided into 2 groups, namely the national level group and the regional group. All samples performed aphurigi kicks, then recorded using a camera and analyzed using skill spector software in 2 dimensions. There are 6 parameters analyzed consisting of kick speed, hip position, angular speed, and kick range. From the measurements that have been carried out, the results show that national-level athletes have significant differences compared to regional athletes in kick speed in the upswing phase, p-0.003, hip position, p-0.045, and knee angle in the upswing phase, p-0.026. However, there were no significant differences in other parameters, including kick speed in the upswing phase, kick range, and knee angle in the upswing phase. The results show the importance of a specific training program to train kinematic parameters that can influence aphurigi kick performance, therefore amateur athletes can master effective kick techniques and compete at the national level.

Abstract

Problems: Aerobic capacity (VO₂ Max) is a fundamental component of physical condition that supports athletic performance in various sports. Grouping sports based on their physiological characteristics, such as martial arts, games, and measurable sports, can help in analyzing athlete fitness profiles. Furthermore, established physiological differences between genders are known to significantly influence aerobic capacity. Purpose: This study aims to map the profile and analyze differences in aerobic capacity among student athletes based on gender and sports classification. Methods: This study used a descriptive-comparative design with 57 student-athletes (37 men, 20 women, aged 20.98 ± 0.6 years) from 18 sports at the Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia, selected using convenience sampling. Aerobic capacity data (VO₂ Max) were collected through the standard Multistage Fitness Test (MFT) instrument. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics, Independent Samples T-test, and One-Way ANOVA. Results: This study showed that male athletes had a significantly higher mean VO₂ Max (42.02 ± 5.14 ml/kg/min) than female athletes (30.91 ± 4.67 ml/kg/min). Further analysis of the male group found no significant differences in VO₂ Max between the Martial Arts (43.33 ± 4.09 ml/kg/min), Games (41.6 ± 4.87 ml/kg/min), and Measured (43.9 ± 3.12 ml/kg/min) groups. Similarly, in the female group, no significant differences were found between Martial Arts (31.5 ± 6.80 ml/kg/min), Games (30.0 ± 3.01 ml/kg/min), and Measured (37.7 ± 1.27 ml/kg/min). Conclusion: Gender is the most dominant differentiating factor for the aerobic capacity of student athletes in this study, while grouping based on sports clusters did not show significant differences. These findings indicate that the variation in athletic levels within each sport group is greater than the differences between sport groups themselves. Further research is recommended to conduct similar analyses by controlling for equivalent athletic levels to obtain a more specific picture of the physiological demands between sports.
